@col2006ie Thanks for the info & I've now updated the video details etc. Scally often presented CITV on his own, as Jerry Foulkes took a number of holidays in '89 (to Tunisia, Jersey & somewhere else) & Jeanne Downs also had some time-off in '90/'91, so Scally was left on his own quite a few times, but I always thought he coped rather well! I really loved the Stonewall-era of CITV, it was fab!...
Hi Aaronator 19842009, I do agree with you about Jeanne Downs, she was a great presenter & (along with fellow presenters, Scally The Dog & Jerry Foulkes) was part of the best ever CITV-era, the Stonewall Productions one of 1989 - 1991. Also, now that I am older I also think Jeanne is quite attractive too!...
Hi pokemon169, I don't think the 2nd clip is from the 22.4.90, as this was a Sunday! But it maybe from the 23.4.90, as this was a Monday & CITV used to show "She-Ra" on Mondays back then. So I've updated the video's info to that date, so thanks very much for the info...
I remember watching CITV in summer mornings especially 1990 which had He-Man, Inspector Gadget, Vicky the Viking, Ox Tales and those underrated 5 minute TinTin shorts from Belgium in the 60's which I still have on tape, they should Secret of the Unicorn and Red Rackhams Treasure if i'm not mistaken which were dubbed by the late great Paul Frees
Holy God, the early 90s Wotsit adverts with the talking face made of Wotsits that I've been wondering what the Christ it was he said for nigh on twenty years holy God you rule!
Oh yeah, these clips are a blast! As I said earlier though, what I liked the best from those mornings were the shows I mentioned- they were great, and Id love to see clips of Just for the Record again-that was the summer of 1990. Wonderful memories of that time. Do you by any chance remember that show?
These clips are brilliant to see again-thanks!! Post any more from this era,if you can!!
Lovin these clips. Does anybody remember the childrens itv shows from the summer mornings around '89,90,91? I remember shows like Ox Tales,an Austrailian show about record breakers called Just for the Record,Vikki the Viking, and something called The haunted School. Anybody got, or remember those programmes???
CITV's summer mornings service from '89 - '91 was great, with Jeanne Downs & Clive Warren in '89/'90 & Glenn Kinsey in '91. "He-Man", "Inspector Gadget" & "Kellyvision" were also shown in the mornings too. Shame that CITV went totally downhill from '93 onwards, when they started doing the dire out-of-vision continuity service! Glad so many are enjoying the clips btw!...
The reason that there were two is that the composite one with the IT\= logo was made by an outside agency as part of the 1989 corporate look, and was required by the network in its attempt to unify its appearance, but CITV was made for the network by Central, who disliked the corporate look. So Central continued to use their existing green/pink logo at the start and end of commercial breaks, playing the corporate ident just at the start and end of each day's CITV output.
Mqscues, at this time (between 1989 and 1991), Children's ITV (not "CITV" yet) was made by an independent company (Stonewall Productions) rather than Central. However they did use Central's facilities, etc.
OK, I stand corrected re the name - was just using CITV as shorthand for "Children's ITV", sorry. And apparently Stonewall had the same attitude towards the corporate ITV branding that Central did when they were doing citv in 1993 when I visited the department in 1993...
Thanks for posting this. Ah the memories. I'm glad there is still some visual evidence that She-Ra was on CITV. I knew they did show double She-Ra on Mondays for a breif peroid. One episode during the morning (in CITV Summer Mornings) and another on Monday afternoons. Once again, thanks for uploading this. As well as Tommy Boyd the 'Stonewall' Era was my favourite era on CITV.
They did show He-Man for a breif peroid as well (often followed by Inspector Gadget and then Vicky the Viking). I think though halfway through the holiday peroid (Late July-very early September) they changed it to She-Ra being on in the mornings. I remember the episode 'Flowers for Hordak' being broadcasted in the morning at some point.
They were a short-lived pop duo from the early 90's called Yell. I don't think they had too many hits, but they did have a Top 10 hit with their cover version of the Dan Hartman classic, "Instant Replay"!
Despite what the VT clock says, the first clip (or rather, the first 2) is actually from Thursday, 26th April 1990, not the 25th. I know this because the programme with the TVS production slide is episode 2 of 'Enid Blyton's The Castle of Adventure', shown on the 26th. The VT clock probably refers to when the 'Ghost Train' trailer was prepared (i.e. the day before). Great clips, though -- the Jeanne Downs/Scally era of CITV was the best -- great presenters, cool graphics and fab programmes!
Thanks for the info about the date of the first clip, as I wasn't sure of it myself & just went by the date on the VT clock! As for CITV, yeah it was great back then with Jeanne Downs & Scally, it was a real shame when they got replaced by Tommy Boyd in 1991, although even he was better than the awful out-of-vision service that followed him! Anyway, I'm glad you are enjoying the clips...
Im loving the clips there is a fair few CBBC clips on youtube but hardly any CITV. You can get Ducktales on DVD at tesco for £6.79 for the entire first season and the show still holds up for me as an adult. Spatz was a good show too.
Mac MacDonald (Captain Hollister in "Red Dwarf") is the Police Chief in the "Wotsits" advert. Also, in the same ad, the young cop is played by an actor called Marcus D'Amico, who was in the mini-series, "Tales Of The City", which was shown on Channel 4 in 1993.
The "Honey Nut Loops" advert voice-over was done by Jonathan Kydd, who has done loads of commercials, cartoons & documentaries. He's also an actor too & has appeared in various stuff such as "Jonathan Creek" & "Trial And Retribution VI".
The TSW presenter is Mark Stewart. I personally recognise him from the time he spent on Portsmouth's short lived local station but more recently he has been on various shopping channels.
Ahh the good ol' days of Children's ITV with Jeanne Downs and Scally -nothing can beat them!! This clip takes me back, I even found myself singing along to some of the theme tunes!! That huge picture of the owl towards the end was a bit scary though!!
Yes, Jeanne Downs/Scally were both great & CITV was good back then, I much preferred it to CBBC, with the dreadful Andi Peters! I used to so look forward to coming home from school & watching CITV, with fab programmes such as "Duck Tales" & "Fun House". Oh, happy days indeed! Whatever happened to Jeanne though? Does she still work in TV?...
I don't think Jeanne is still working in TV, but I do know that post Childrens ITV she has done a few voiceovers for adverts and the like, and is currently persuing a singing career.
Andi Peters was rubbish to be honest but Andy Crane before him was great. Still Andi Peters was better than the cack they have on CBBC now its all souless they need to bring back the broom cupboard
The Scally links with the wildlife photos in the background are from Friday 18th May 1990.

"Owl TV" was a show about wildlife for kids, presented by Michaela Strachan & ran from 1990 - '93.
