They planned to for Songs from the Black Hole. However, upon near completion, Rivers was told by a high up producer at Geffen that the entirety of SftBH other than Blast Off! was shit. So Weezer went with a more "real" sound with Pinkerton, and then the critics said that that was shit. So then they took a more standard, typical approach with Green and Maladroit. People lost interest, so he went (pseudo-)geek again, but somehow cant write a song without making it about how much of a geek he is
