The good thing for people who have fair skin is : No matter how hard they try to stay in sun and get dark. Their skin still remains fair. That is an advantage. my skin in not dark or tan. It is fair but the level of its whiteness is on the border! If I stay In sun for 15 min, only 15 min, My skin turns to yellow ( dark) That is why I do not wear short sleeves or short pants in sumers. I do not undrestand why white people are killing themseleves to become dark?! It does not make sense!!!! AT ALL

a little history lesson. Fair skin was always prized in Asia, even before Asians brushed shoulders with Europeans. Just look at the Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock prints; aristocratic women are always depicted with fair skin. If we're to follow the logic of those claiming that Asians are trying to look white armed with these lotions and creams, then can't we argue that Westerners are trying to look "Asian" by spraying themselves with fake tans and turning into glowing orange-apricot goodness?

People who didn't have to work out in the fields and earn money in order to survive typically stayed in doors and were pale in comparison to the tan laborers. So, over time, people just started the think that white = better. And, even though this association doesn't necessarily hold true anymore, the idea of white = rich/tan =poor is still embedded into the minds of the people of today.
