  • @redeyesinthedark I gotta' say, that if you want to compare the me66 to the NTG2, I can understand that comparison... and you get more sound for a lot less money. I certainly hope you wouldn't compare the NTG3 and the me66!.. unless of course you'd compare the me66 and 416... and in that case, well... if you think those sound close, save your money. Don't buy any mics :-) Hire a sound guy.

  • This is great. Thank you. I love how you set this up and measured

  • the NTG-3 is more sensitive to higher frequencies and picks up more direct sound, the NTG-2 seems to block out background noise better than the NTG3 but it picks up the reverb/sound of room along with the direct signal.

  • The tg2 sounded slightly better

  • They sound very similar, but obviously the 3 is a little louder. But both are kinda harsh.

    thanks

  • @dennisonearth they are both good for there price, would you have any recommendations on mics with less harshness in the sound at a relatively cheap price?

Don't forget though, you can edit the sound to soften it ;)

  • Just ordered the ntg3 from you guys. Can't wait to get it :)

  • I want to buy the NTG-2 for video film making. Any thoughts or suggestions?

  • @OceanCold what you wanna hear? the ntg2 is an ok mic, i use it aswell. the 3 ofc is alot better, but you can only tell if you hear em LIVE and UNCOMPRESSED, on youtube its all mp3 - crappy sound with both

  • haha that certainly isn't the case. cheers

  • @WildGunman77 Yeah I've looked at it on the web but not YouTube yet, I was just wondering what type of sound it was used to record, like shotguns are best for outdoors etc. I thought with the stereo mics it may be good for recording wildtracks. I use a Sony DSR200 Dvcam with XLR sockets. Thanks for the info man, may get an AT4073 or may go cheaper and get an NTG-2. Seems a lot of the best sounding videos were achieved in post prod anyway.

  • @1simonmatthews I have the H4-N and I simply love it. Works great with shotgun mics, but the integrated XY mics are also great for recording ambience. I use it for concerts, events, weddings and all that. I have a Sony FX1000.

  • @rememberstudio Thanks man, I thought the H4N might be good for ambience too. I just purchased an ME66 from ebay, 4 weeks ago, but the damn thing hasn't been delivered and the seller is saying another 6 weeks yet - just thought I'd share my sob story haha :( Hey, just checked your channel profile - for a minute I thought your name was an anagram of 'U C Video Gamers', but it isn't quite!

  • @WildGunman77 Sorry, I'm a newbie audiophile. What's the H4N used for? Ambience/wild tracks?

  • @WildGunman77 Does the AT4073 require phantom power or does it take a battery? Because the NTG-3 requires phantom power and my camera doesn't support it, so by the time I purchase a portable phantom power module with an NTG-3 I'm looking at just over £500 (pound sterling) with the cheapest portable phantom power module I can find. You can get an AT4073 for £500ish and that's a better mic do you think?

  • @WildGunman77 From this test I agree with you. Have you heard a comparison of the two mics in an outdoor environment? I havn't but I'd love to hear a comparison as I just can't choose which shotgun to buy. Right now it's between the NTG-2, Audio Technica 897, Sennheiser ME66 and NTG-3.

  • I do love the NTG-3 but from this indoor test the extra cost of the NTG-3 isn't really justified. The NTG-3 surely sounds louder, but if you raise the volume on the NTG-2 then it sounds very similar without much noise interference. The difference in quality is more pronounced in the 3 to 4 feet test, but this booming distance can be avoided. I would like to hear an outdoor comparison of the two mics. Perhaps an outdoor test would make it more obvious. Doh, Still can't choose which mic to buy!

  • Lol somthing exploded in the distance at 1:52

  • ntg3 is on color image, ntg2 is on black and blue. It has some influence on the perception of the sound, maybe.

    Thanks for te test.

  • NTG-2 #FTW

  • ntg3 'sounds' better in my opinion!!!! ciao thnks, carlo,

  • Cheers for the reviews , having watched them I have just purchased the NTG2 and the Blimp to complement my JVC GY-HD101E setup, nice one :)

  • Hmm, the NTG-3 sounds more open and lively. The NTG-2 seems to struggle when the speaker lowers his voice. Many thanks for this test!
