First of all, the judges on TV are not actually serving as judges in these cases. The plaintiff and defendant basically sign a document that makes Judge Milian's rulings binding before they are allowed to get on TV so they get the chance to be humiliated on television in exchange for allowing this television show to take the place of small claims court. These judges are paid to rant at the idiots who walk in, unlike in real court where they are encouraged to remain calm at all times.
