Which violin making school is more respected? Violin Making School of America, Chicago School of Violin Making, or the violin making program from the Jacobs School of Music?
I flirt with this school every time I have to shop at Fresh Market. Their windows are in glass and it is possible to watch the students and faculty talking and working inside wearing a green apron. The west wall has a nice painting, I discover something new every time I pass by. There is a big piece of wood laying on the left side, right in the front window, seems heavy. I´m from Brazil and I feel proud of living nearby such an interesting and curious building.
just stopped by here and found a violin completely hand crafted and a great bow to go with it, i love peter priers! maybe i should go into making them or something.. :)
wow O_O . thats really great. i do play the violin and i think it would be cool if im playing an instrument i made with my own hands, so i would really like to try to make a violin by myself O_O
I play the violin and might start making violins its pretty difficult though -.- I really want to make it into a violin making school =) but anyways i love this video because it informs you about many things
I love going to Peter Prier's. I get all my supplies there, such as mutes, strings, rosin, etc. They are really nice and helpful, especially if you need any touch ups or repairs.
I was a violin maker for ten years. It's a rough way to make a living. During my training, our instructor would tell us every day that is wasn't too late to quit and do something else. We all thought he was joking, but he was serious. I even went to the school in this documentary. No regrets, but now I am going to medical school. Art doesn't pay. Many violin makers have wives that pay the bills for them for years and years. Oh, and musicians are crazy, good luck dealing with them.
What a nice commentary. It so very well captures the solitude and craftsmanship --- the art --- of violinmaking. You can tell everyone who appears in the video has found their calling.
how much money do you make a year from doing this?

What is the song playing at 1:44?

@orochimarui2
The song playing at 1:44 is Antonio Vivaldi's Winter, approximately 3min and 30 sec into the song.
