@152czar some now come with door gunners, or a 50.cal mounted on the bottom controlled by the co-pilot, it is also planned that these will launch hellfire missiles off of em
@Waffles250 actually just quietly iv heard rumours that some of the USMC variants are also fitted with x2 side mounted pods, one housing a 30mm chaingun & the other a stinger missile pod.
A friend of mine was a test pilot for Hughes (I think it was) in Ft. Worth, TX on this thing when it was in development back in the 80's; I remember he had nothing but bad things to say about it.
He was actually killed when the one he was flying crashed.
I don't know why we still have so much faith in this clunky piece of crap. The takeoff was successful, but looked clumsy as hell. It's time to move on, Mr. Secretary.
@BlitztheDragon um... because it has triple the range and +50% faster than the choppers it's replacing? but hell, legit reasons won't ever get in the way of your self-righteousness can they? it's time to open your mind, idiot.
@oldfrend Oh it's pretty open as it is. If they can work the bugs out, more power to them. I just find it a bit impractical to spend twenty years and millions of dollars on the same design. Sorry if you took personal offense to my month old comment, but I just tell things as I see them. If what you say is true, then good. Doesn't change the fact it likes to crash.
@BlitztheDragon actually it does. since it's entered service it's had the best safety record of any Marine rotorcraft. something easy enough to look up, but again, facts don't seem to stand in the way of whatever opinion you feel like spouting off.
Of course, we have the $20 billion per year we place before the sacred water walkers in Tel Aviv each year. This excludes the chemical and biological weapons we give them , so they can terrorize the unarmed innocent native Palestinians next door. This is America? Nope, this is America taken over and controlled by devil worshipping joos.
@alexgibb11 apple vs orange dummy, harriers 40 yrs outdated carries one, vertical take off only when unloaded, why am I telling you this?never mind educate yourself
@holocaustexpert You've got your figures wrong. No aircraft has ever cost 6 Billion dollars individually, to build. Not the F-22, the F-35, or even the most expensive jet ever built, the B-2.
@jonesy97 - The entire program will run about $25 billion. With 200 planes that is $125,000,000 per plane. I was off in my first estimate. There is no need for this POS. Greatest waste of tax payers money I can think of.
@holocaustexpert If the military and the manufacturer don't get the spiraling costs of the F-35 program under control, it has the possibility of surpassing the V-22 asthe greatest flying money pit of all time.
@holocaustexpert 6 Billion, why don't you do research before making your self look like an idiot. Those things aren't even close to 1 billion. Hell, the F-22 is about 60 million a piece.
@c172kid - I favor a 99% cut in military spending. We are we in Afghanistan? To let the zionists regrow the poppy crop which fuels 90% of the $400 billion per yr cocaine trade. Bush put USA into 2 illegals wars. Americans get to pay the bill:
A 99 PERCENT CUT ?! IT WOULD BE OPEN SEASON ON THE UNITED STATES WITHOUT OUR MILITARY . THE UNITED STATES MILITARY IS OUR COUNTRIES GREATEST VIRTUE , AND THOSE WHO SERVE ARE HEROES AND NOTHING LESS.
YOU ARE OBVIOUSLY ONE HUNDRED PERCENT UNINFORMED AND NO WAY A HOLOCAUST EXPERT OTHER THAN THE FACT THAT YOU ARE PROBABLY DIRECTLY RELATED TO ADOLF HITLER
@AUSTIN200916 - Not related to him. As to a 99% military cut, lets just say 95% would be OK. Let Korea, and the rest defend themselves. Why are we giving zionist terrorists $20 billion per yr. Military invents phony enemies than lets Mossad bomb our buildings so as to begin a new set of wars. America's military is its greatest embarassment. They do little more than attack defenseless civilians and you call that a virtue. Vietnam= false flag, WW2= war crimes galore. Iraq= illegal war. etc....
@SmellsLikePork09 4 crashed in testing,1 tragic crash killing the crew & 15 Marines on a test flight. Considering all new tech involved in the V-22 Carbon fiber Fuselage, fly by wire, automated controls, new engines, new type rotor/props, new pilot training category, folding props, folding wing etc.The type has had a remarkable development period.Time is money- it is 1/3 faster than any helicopter w/ similar payload, It self deploys around the world saving millions in transport costs
@sbd45acp For a helicopter yes I agree, fastest official recorded being the Lynx at 249. (The Unrecorded, unofficial 258 for a Bell, I think, doesn'y stand),...but the Osprey is not a helicopter, it is a Tilt rotor S/VTOL aircraft and as such is slow at 320...IMHO
@sbd45acp I understand fully that it is not a helicopter. Let us pose the question thus; Can you name all the other operational aircraft that have the range, speed, maneuverability and payload of the V-22, fly significantly faster than 320 knots...... and land and takeoff vertically?
@SuperAncientmariner I assure you, I am quite calm.My intent was to offer a valid comparison to aircraft that perform similar tactical vertical lift missions. While it is true to say that 320 knots is slow by comparison to most Military FIXED WING transports, 320 knots is far above the speed at which any large transport helicopter can achieve. Perhaps I should have said- 320 knots is REALLY fast for ANY similar use capability conventional rotary wing transport.
It can take off and land vertically, eliminating the need for a runway. Once it's in the air, it can direct thrust aft and fly like a prop airplane, achieving much higher speeds than any old transport helicopter.
@wilknight12345 thats what i thought also, this is the machine that replaced the Pave Low too. I'm kinda pissed about that as the MH-53 is my favorite chopper :/
fucking hell read my post i said "now only if they could put jet engines there instead of the props" which means they take the props out and the jet engine turning them and get a jet engine and point the thrust down wards to take off

And will never kill enemies. It has no weapons.
