"despite of my rage I'm still desperate in my cage!!!!"
Fuck off Bono, I prefer to stay with the smashing pumpkins World is a vampire, it´s way better song, nothing personal, it's just grunge and you don't belong to it.
@rubenalonsol WHY THE HELL YOU EVEN HERE? GO WATCH S.P. VIDEOS DIPSHIT!!! ..IF ANY THING YOU SHOULD BE GLAD THEY ARE PAYING HOMAGE! TO THAT FORGOTTEN BAND(EXCEPT LOYALISTS OF COURSE) DOUCHE BAG!
@rubenalonsol haven't the smashing pumkins done a cover of a whole u2song once? i mean, about that i could say, fuck you pumpkins, youre grunge and you don't belong to u2songs
@rubenalonsol Bono does that with tons of songs, throwing little snippits from famous songs in. Like Bob Marley, the Doors, the Beatles, Rolling Stones, etc. It's how he pays respect to these groups. As a Smashing Pumpkins fan, I think it's awesome he's putting Smashing Pumpkins up on that pedestal alongside the Doors and Beatles.
at 3:35 of this video Adam Clayton is thinking to himself.....Look at me, I self taught myself the bass, married a super model, teamed up with these cool guys, made millions of bucks and look where I am right now. life sure is good. I think thats why he has that look on his face. God bless this group !
This song is one big adrenline rush! I was too young in the early '80s to remember this and other early songs by u2; I was 10 when Joshua Tree came out. Still, I like this early stuff; it' so hard-charging and, well, it just rocks!
maybe that amp was turned off... I know that the edge has 2 or 3 amps per concert... like backup.... at one of the 360º tour concerts, he smashed up one of those amps.
POWERFUL! Something about adams playing that I can't put my finger on that sounds hypnotizing starting right about 3:45 Any bass players out there have have an opinion???..........U2 4 ever!
They were awesome during this tour. Hate to say they are no longer the same. Saw them at the Rose Bowl and it had none of the energy that they've had in the past. Bono has become too political that it now has become part of the show. Won't pay so much money ever again to hear a sernon.
I was at that Aragon show he mentions, December 11, 1984. Most over-crowded, hottest show EVER! I remember being crushed at the beginning and being off my feet for 5 minutes pressed against bodies.
had to carry a girl over to the side after she passed out from heat or lack of air. They had gallons of water for people on the side. Craziness. I can barely remember songs they played, I was in survival mode.
I was at the Aragon Ballroom show on December 11, 1984. Wow, I can't believe that was 25 years ago! I lost interest after The Joshua Tree came out. Somewhere, I still have close to 100 live tapes from 1979 (Cork Opera House, Dublin Dandelion Car Park) - 1985 or so. I saw them on both legs of the North American Unforgettable Fire tour and once on the Joshua Tree tour (Aragon Ballroom 1984, UIC Pavillion 1985, and Rosemont Horizon 1987, respectively).
Hey great!... There was something special in that gig for this song?, Why the Bono's reference to that gig? or is only local cortesy?... tnx & Greetings!
Did he say the Aragon over 20 years ago??!! That's fucking awesome!! That's the first time I saw them was at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago in 1981!!!! Fucking AWESOME!!!
The best U2 song by far in my opinion. This version is better than the other ones on youtube. This whole DVD is phenomenal. The Edge is the man in this song.
This is the band the pop radio listening public THINK they know, but don't. Like this song, U2 emerged from of the bowls of ragged (and real!!!!- Greenday take note) punk. They know all about mixing energy, fire, aggression and passion, and they don't need any lessons from young 21st century pretenders.
I'm not talking about the quality of the DVD... both are great in my opinion... I Just say this concert is more rocker than the Slane one... U2 Go Home is more like "all age" U2...
I first saw U2 at Meadowlands Arena in 1987, then saw them again and again and again.... but this tour was the first one I missed b/c they never played the old stuff.... so now we'll go see them again on the NLOTH tour, and I hope they play some of this old stuff, cause it's the most amazing music we ever heard....
U2 sem dúvida, uma das melhores bandas do mundo que será bem recordado como músicos e o vocalista principal que é o Bono como o homem da paz e contra a pobreza.
U2 is the only band i knew with songs that never get bored. I can listen it for over 20 times a day, without getting bored of it, don't know how they do that.
They preformed this track absolutely great by the way, how can you make such a song, still unbelievable to me.
Best song of the Boy album. This Live version is out of this world, still shows these Irish lads still have it in them to kick ass and still rock on after 30 years. Not many bands have succeeded that.
Some of the live renditions from the first few tours in 1981-83 we're the best of this song, in el opinion mio. The October Deluxe rendition is about as good as it ever got, though on that album they deleted part of the bridge; anyways, blows this rendition(plus no explosive 'guitar burst' out of the bridge, lame/weak). The Boy album version was rather pallid in comparison to the best live renditions. Check out my ECo cover on my channel, it's in the right direction. Trash it if you like tho.
Pearl Jam Gives credit to U2, they always have, Green Day has as well. Its S H I T bands nowadays, that have lost thier touch. A bunch of fucking sissy ass, slack jaw faggots-with the play by numbers music need to fuck off forever. 110 Million records sold: 30 Year history: Second only to The stones, Over 1 BILLION dollars made millions more to charity. U FUCKING 2 MOTHERFUCKERS!!! Got it? U2!!!!
Watching them play this nearly 30 years later, they still have all the energy and firepower that they did back then. Not many bands can keep up for as long as they've did. March 2nd, a new era of u2 begins
I laugh when young blood followers of more recent 'great' bands(Greenday, Pearl Jam to name two) always try to suggest Bono is too old, hasn't got a voice, the Edge can't play etc. I laugh. They've obviously never heard anything except some radio Elevation or Beautiful Day. I point them to this, to Out of Control at Slane, to Until the End of the World... anywhere. Radio U2 is U2 lite so that the children aren't scared
great comment. U2's lesser known catalog is better then anyone's.....and you're so right about end of the world. That song live is incredible every time they play it....especially at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction.
Adam quietly but those rockt now themselves assist normally nice! deliciously very the link this way in action, them remains the best link ever, in my opinion! Groetjes from the Netherlands
This version of this song always reminds me of just how much noise three musicians can make. Electric Co here is absolutely rocking and yet all you have is a drummer, a bassist and a guitarist. Yeah, I know Edge uses lots of effects, blah blah, but it's still just those three, supporting Bono with that massive wall of sound.
Im always amazed at how Bono adds lyrics to songs and sounds so flawless! Like the Smashing Pumpkins shout out in this song!! That guy is unbelieveable!!
I got into the Ellipse in Miami II and there were so many highlights throughout the night. But Edge doing the Electric Co solo, where I could literally reach out and touch him (who needs U23D for that) was just a surreal moment. It was almost like being in another dimension. You could say it's like U2 playing in your living room, but only if your house can hold 20,000 people.
U2 é uma banda incrível. A maneira como conseguem colocar seus pensamentos nas letras e cativar o público fazem deles grandes líderes. Uma maneira de interagir perante milhares de pessoas que poucas bandas têm. Muito legal mesmo.
After all these years it's still played just like the original on the Boy album. Shows that The Edge is up there with all the great guitarists, Rory Gallagher and Hendrix.
Check out the live version on the October deluxe album, that's been my favorite since I first heard the bootleg in 1992, and for all these years since, on my recorded tape and cd bootlegs. That recording is from 3-6-1981, Boston. You can listen to online, just type 'U2 October deluxe imeem'. note: the bridge got chopped out though for legal reasons.
Post October tour though, I prefer the Boy era; plus B used different words during the Cry and bridge, more urgent and 'real' in the early performances. This performance 'reminisces'. Edge's guitar is less 'urgent/powerful' in this performance too.
Pure ENERGY pure Energy. U2 the cure for the Energy shortage. What power out of the greatest band of the Century. Kick Ass Power. New album coming out in November. Bring it on and on and on and on.

adam provides the inspiration, i.e. fashions, odd bass lick, drugs--1st circuit
larry builds on it, i.e. focused, hard work, rationalizing--2nd circuit
edge turns it to magic, i.e. spiritual, inspired, rationalist--3rd circuit
bono holds it all together, keeps adam happy, i.e. expert preaching, fiery, paternal, protective--4th circuit
so adam provides more inspiration
larry builds, etc.
may the circle be unbroken...
4 circuits courtesy of timothy leary look him up : D

This is by far my absolute favorite version of any U2 song EVER! And you've got to love the Smashing Pumpkins shout-out

After all these years it's still played just like the original on the Boy album. Shows that The Edge is up there with all the great guitarists, Rory Gallagher and Hendrix.

This is different than the boy version

The live version would be different but the guitar sounds are similar. This version is the best.

I respect your opinion. But I don´t think so. Here, they show they can play like old times with the same energy and emotion.

Post October tour though, I prefer the Boy era; plus B used different words during the Cry and bridge, more urgent and 'real' in the early performances. This performance 'reminisces'. Edge's guitar is less 'urgent/powerful' in this performance too.

Lmao! Bono hits the cymbal and Larry's like 'WTF?'
