Schumacher actually ran over to make sure he was okay, one of his more classy moments. Was a scary crash to watch live. The Orange Arrows car driven by Enrique Bernoldi was actually the luckiest one. Birti's car landed across the nose of the arrows, so nearly could have landed on his head, the wheel and suspension landed right next to him on the side pod. All three switched to back up cars and restarted the race.
I'm surprised it was red flagged only 3 cars went out. These days you only see the red flag when its about 5 cars, the majory of which are on the track and 1 persons in desperate need of an ambulance.
@AshHill07 In those years, yet something fresh with the memory of the events of San Marino 1994, the attention that had been put on the incidents in starts was rather more important than an incident in the middle of the race. You just have to go back to Buenos Aires 1995 (or the German Grand Prix that year) to have clear evidence of this.
Senna's accident wasn't the only one who had left sequels in terms of security measures since then the FIA would start to give lot of importance.
@AshHill07 there had beed a rule change in between. Earlier every condition requiring a Savety Car in the first lag resulted in a red flag and the possibility to change to backup cars. Today red flags are only used to pause the race, if the track is unusable (so eigher blocked or flooded).
this was my first F 1 GP i watched live at the circuit, i was shocked, when i saw this, onte the one hand i was shocked but on the other hand i was lucky, cause Michael seems to have problems with his car, so he would be out also wihtout this crash ^^ (then in the race he had an engine failure...)

Did the race get red flagged? The Arrows was lucky to avoid the accident.

@HSTollie yepp red flag, both drivers went to there !T-Cars" that time and were still in the race

@HSTollie The Arrows was Enrique Bernoldi. And his biggest luck was to survive this. It's difficult to see, but the Burti car landed *on* his car.
