  • There is a very high probability that you may not get paid or underpaid if you are foreigner trying to survive on a tourist visa and no work & live permit.. I assume Bill did not have a work permit becoz if he had , then he could easily sue his bosses` ass and get paid in 6 to 8 weeks with the legal interest and lawyer fees on top.. In USA without a proper visa, you can not open a bank account, get a cell phone even rent an apartment unless you rent it from a rentee. So , Bill was lucky here.

  • I don't think it's the same with church bells.Church bells don't say "God is great, god is glorious" at least.Turkey is a secular state and I think it's disrespectful for people from different religions."99% popularity of Turkey is Muslim" is a big lie, it's just the thing on birth certificate.

  • @PLQENQS4 Unfortunately the above comment is true... and a shame on the Turkish state. Every Turkish citizen must have an ID card and carry it on them - a similar scheme was proposed by the British Government, but it was rejected so it didn't become a law in the UK - On the ID card, it says 'Religion: Islam', which you cannot change. On the ID cards of the members of minority groups such as Armenians or Rums (Turkish Greeks) write a different religion.

  • ... This is very discriminatory and racist. It is a residue from the Ottoman era, which doesn't give an ordinary person a choice... I respect everyone's beliefs, but people should be given a choice and religion must be free of politics.

  • Nice intro, Bill.

  • If you don't like the prayer call you can come back to your home, I'm Turkish and I live in Canada and every time when I jingle bells I never think like you especially if I'm a immigrant here, respect!

  • Turkcem zayif oldugundan ingilizce yaziyorum..Now..Bill is having a problems paying his rent..and then his commenting that he lives in a place called slum..then his complaining that some time when he works his boss wont pay him..Bill,do you really thing that if you did live in your home country(I don't give fuck where he is from) you wouldn't have such a problems..Problems are every where, dude! So just enjoy been in the greatest city on universe... don't cry like a little bitch..

  • Hey Bill, who forced you to live in Istanbul...if you don't like the sound of the prays early in the morning then GTFO of Istanbul. that's the best sound on the face of the earth..especially better then your guitar playing, for sure!. .you stupid idiot alcoholic bum.People like you don't belong there from where the fuck you from.I live in the States and i don't complain to the church bells every hour..so don't be a crying baby..you don't like it then live..

  • I like this video; unique. As for prayers, i can agree with Bill. I am a turkish muslim living in moscow. When i go back to turkey during vacations, it is also annoying me now.

  • @mezzanine74 really? :)

  • great opening! "My name is Bill.... And i've been an alcoholic for a long time....

  • ... in our cities in europe there are more and more disturbing and senseless noises, but people don't care about it... so I am sure that the loudness of the noise is not the problem for these people who don't like calls to prayer, but the problem is the what they represent. I feel pleasure when in Istanbul the noise of traffic is broken by a human voice who reminds people that our life is temporary and we must be grateful to our creator, however we call him. I hope they build a mosque in my town

  • @jaxiusful The loudness of prayers from the mosques make the noise problem in Istanbul worse. Not only non-muslims (Turks or foreigners), but also muslims (some of my Turkish friends, for example) get disturbed by the loudspeakers, which usually are of inferior quality and distort the sound terribly when they turn the volume up to the max level. This happens five times a day, and at night you could be waken up a number of times if your house is not far away from a mosque.

  • @MrErtunc Disturbs me, too, as a citizen.

  • I am an Istambul lover from the heart of Europe and I think if someone doesn't like mosques, minarets and calls to prayer, doesn't like Istanbul, because it is an essential part of it, it makes the real charm to the city at dawn, during the day and at sunset... and(my opinion) sounds better that metallic bells and in the same time transmits a beautiful message:

  • This is not a documentary about istanbul. To be accurate, change the title to documentary about Bill, who loves his drink, cigarettes and having problems with paying his rent.

  • @ritareem

Why do you think that Bill loves having problems with paying his rent?

  • @MrErtunc I ment " loves his drink and cigarettes and "is" having problems paying his rent". He said that himself, din't he? Looks like he is struggling a bit in life, but that's only my own perception after watching this short movie about him. Anyway, i was only interested in learning more about istanbul, and this din't really add anything. Thanx and have a good day.

  • @MrErtunc dude just look at him!! do you really believe that he can make it in Istanbul!! I mean really? he couldn't survive in his country how in the hell hes gonna make a living in a Country where he doesn't speak they language..diyelim Anadoludan garibin biri geldi New York'a,ingilizce sifir..ne dersin, kac ay yada kac sene survive edebilir ? ayni hesab...ve Ulkemi sevmiyen siktir olur gider.haa bu arada ben Amerikadayim ve Ulkeme, miletime laf ettirmem..alkolikden asla... MrErtunc.

  • nice and unique

  • Zararsiz bi ayyas :) Adam alkoligim diyo zaten. Gayet duz mantikla aklina geleni soylemis iste... Good luck to him in life

  • stupid documentary

  • I'm a foreigner in Istanbul and I live " down there ", in Erenkoy to be specific ;)

You're so damn right about the annoying mosque prayer things.

  • @coolfly005 why would you wants to live in turkey? go back where you came where you dont have problems with prayers...

  • @12081985 we had church bells where I came from... which is not as annoying but annoying to a degree... why would I want to live here? I'm adventurous :) I'm moving back to the US in summer tho...

  • @coolfly005 i see, well a true traveller shouldnt be bothered by such a thing...because it is a part of adventure, that prayer is a charm of turkey... ;)

  • @coolfly005 hey you too..gtfo of then, if you don't like it...they not gonna change the timing for the prays for you ass.

  • @illfixit4you i did, because of scumbags like you who have no respect or whatsoever for foreigners and other cultures. i might complain about something but that's just me stating my opinion, i'm not DEMANDING anything. know the difference. I'm back in the US, and happy.

  • its ok but the call to prayer is not calling to a mosque but telling prayers time...

  • some of these comments are silly. this is a great video and most of what this guy is talking about is fair commentary.

if he wants to complain about the call to prayer, then fine. i've heard muslims complain about church bells in england, and that's fine, too. it's called freedom of speech.

i love the adhan myself, but getting offended by someone who criticises it is just childish....

  • Interesting take on Istanbul and the music was not so bad. Looking forward to the next installment.

  • Hey Bill, things u say are all correct.. i am a Turk and i lived in the uk for 7 years have traveled many countries and i had similar problems... but i might accept the problems in Turkey are much tougher than many other countries.

Main reason for that is because us Turks are extremely "formalist" ... as you say "there are rules here" . things that are so normal doing in many countries are ruled to be disgrace by society in turkey. such as a man wears an earing, or a girl drinks outside...

  • What about of the second part ???????

  • Excellent Kaya

  • I think this guy use drugs !

  • do you consider this as a documentary? A junky having a camera and thinking that talking about crap is a documentary. even talks about mosques and the unknown sounds which sound like "come over here" to his small brain with a little capasity and even complains about the hight of his apartmen ahaha! May your ass bounce on the 34 minarets... :)

  • If you look back in western civilization history you will see what I mean. We never look down on any body this your inferiorty complex that what it is, since your staying havent you ever realised how many poeple living there from different parts of the world?? I have a lot to say but..anyways.I hope you got it.you are not allowed to make such silly comments about cultures and religions, that the way they are,so shut your fuckin fuck up and have your tequila before your friend steal it:))

  • still the same mantality, still the same arrogant ass speeches as it was hundereds of years ago.

and will never get along well. if the calling sing for prayers annoyes you get your damn ass where ever you are belong to.they are yelling or screamning. yells and screams are in bars and pubs where you have been being wasted. I hate your kind of sick in the brain people. The land that you are living now created peaceful place for different cultures and religions.

  • excuse me mr Bill but its Islamic country which thats for sure there will be mosques and call for pray. If not like it or dont want to hear that, than dont come to that country. That easy is it. Just need respect or stay away. Just annoys me this kind of comments

  • nice vid thanks
