It seems very likely that his Amie was attacked simultaneously with Tim.
Here's the way I see it:
Try to imagine you are in a tent...all of a sudden there's a great loud roar and something immediately rams into your tent bringing it down and you are covered in tarp while giant paws are repeatedly smashing down on you and your friend, and this thing is not halting for a second and if you did get out, your friend is screaming bloody murder right in front of you...could you run away?
