Highly doubt either one of you are correct and would love to see a source link for any of it. Never heard anything of the sort from a band member or anyone related to the band. They were known a Saron Gas, and I haven't even seen any covers of other bands when they were under that name so I highly doubt it.

I'm not an Aussie, so I never saw Seether in their infancy before or when they were Saron Gas, but in interviews, Shaun shares that one of his major musical influences was Cobain. Nothing wrong with that IMO, but also IMO, Shaun's lyrics are much more meaningful. You do know that he had a relationship with Amy Lee, but the majority of his lyrics were written before his association with her. Just FYI

Yes they are from South Africa, and I am good friends with Tyronne and Dave who were the original bassist and drummer for Saron Gas. I sat in on a good number of early practice sessions in the band room out the back of Dave's house, and as said in an earlier comment, Cobain was a big influence for Shaun. They were more of an original band than a cover band, but of course most people end up playing a few covers at some point.

I do agree mostly, In my humble opinion its not that his lyrics are more meaningful...Just easier to understand, Kurt's lyrics was pretty cryptic you had to read into them to get some of what they meant, While Shaun is easier to understand most of the time. :)

kurt said it himself that nearly all of nirvanas songs were meaningless. he would write lines in his book, then pull it out and find some that rhymed when it came time to put words to a song. easier said than done, i might add. it really takes talent to write lyrics, whether your intent is for them to make sense or not.
