Also had the Gus Vali album! He is a national treasure...took "Greek" songs and made them with their Turkish roots...and talk about a clarino player!!
My parents had this exact first album and there was another one just like it but with green cover. Sorry but the "Tsiftetelli Tourkiko" or Nina Nai song is a classic. They are singing in the old-timey way and I love the clarino and bouzouki! See how many versions there are? Who's to say which is best? I enjoy them all for what they are.
Notice how every comment on this page is positive except for your's? Perhaps you need to take some time and pull the suvlaki you have shoved up your ass out.
@JANDAR69 It's not a "ratial" comment huh? And I just said all off that to see if you were weak enough to be sucked into it. And you were! Hurray! See how silly all this arguing is? But keep going if you must, it is some fine entertainment with good back ground music. Just because you don't have good easrs is something you need to take up with your parents. xD
@JANDAR69 i dunno if u realised but the description does say versions from American-Greeks and Greek immigrants.. hence meaning they are amateur singers.. of course they rnt gunna b of high standard... just enjoy the song...... if u dnt like, piss off... srsly..
How weird to see people still arguing about something that ended 172 years ago. Get over it........ Stupid stuff!!! My dad opened the Port Said Cafe in 1960 in Washington, DC. He hired entertainers from all over the world and loved Turkish people, their customs and FOOD. We are American Greeks. Get with it people. This stuff stinks.
anyway both versions of this song "Ni-na-nay", "Si-na-nay" is beautiful and i love both...Politics is something else but people were mixed mostley everywhere in Balkans for long time before borders in middle XIX century...Greetings for this great songs and beautiful balkan cities Constantinople, Thessaloniki, Athens, Belgrade, Skopie, Sofia, Bucharest, Sarajevo...
name of that song in Serbia is "Ruse kose curo imas", i dont know in other languages i will try to find...Just to see how that culture long for centuries is mixed. Of course there is ordinary national ethnic songs special for every nation in Balkan, but this stile (rpoumeliotika, sevdah, cocek, chalgii, "music from south") belongs to all balkan people and euroasian culture...
hhahaha the best thing i saw was tv show about song which is obviously from country known as Ottoman empire, because all the Balkan nations singing same song. What is specialy about that ? When jurnalist came to all that countries people there said that that song is specialy belongs to his nation:))))
i am from Serbia but i know one thing. This song is greek ethnic song of Greeks from Constantinople (Istanbul) from the cifteteli songs (roumeliotika). Same song is singing by Turks, because they lived together in that area for centuries...All the other versions (in other countries) is IMPORT!
music does not recognize political boundaries. i am croatian/romanian/gypsy by bloodline and have been an aficionado of this genre of music since a was a child 55 years ago... and i see this as Balkan music... who cares if it is Greek or Turkish... what matters is the excitement we all feel in our hearts and in our legs... that makes us want to get up and start dancing....
hey the song is greek not turkish ... it exist a turkish version because the song was written during the ottoman empire... and as you know greece was under turkish ottoman empire domination.. as you know gazi mustafa kemal pasha "Ataturk" was born in Turkiko Proxenio "The Turkish House" in Thessaloniki.. He Was Turkish But Greek By Heart. The Same As The Composer :). Tsifeteli Turkiko = Means... = Fast Turkish Dance... :)

Nina-nai vroum nina-nai means nina nai my baby nina nai.
in fact it is not "vroum", it is "yavrum".
"yavrum" means "my baby" in turkish.
I just want to clarify it.
Loves from Turkey to my Greek brothers and sisters.

Great anthology. Nina Nai from 4-5 different bands. I remember Tasso Halkia from the 50s when he first came over here. He arrived on a Saturday around 1957-58, and played at a Pogoni (Epirus) festival in St Eleftherios Church, NYC on Sunday. The BEST. The others are good, too, but Tasso beats them all.
