Try putting the tape into the VHS player, then connecting the output on the player to the input on the computer. Run something like VirtualDub and capture the tape from the player. I'll try and make a video on it sometime in the upcoming weeks.

@galdurster EyeTV works really well! I used it on my Mac to convert VHS to digital and then burn DVDs
