Awsome sounding machine well done chaps i know it is a long way of running properly but when it is it will be a major crowd puller at diesel gala's once again well done chaps 5*****
@mikesndbs the smaller Generator that is sat on top of the Main gen set and driven by the belt is the Exciter, its purpose is to energise the field coils in the main generator, the Auxilary generator is the smaller diameter generator that is bolted onto the end of the main gen and driven through a common shaft, the pulley that comes off the end of the Auxiliary gen shaft is what drives the Exciter, during this test run the Exciter was "Deactivated" so that the Main gen was not "generating"
7:41,Ooops,that was me getting excited on the throttle, sorry Alan, anyone spot the proper finger wagging I got, lol,I felt like a naughty school boy,LMAO
When you see some of the rubbish the lottery fund wastes our money on (like arty farty projects, almost always in London of course), its unique machines like this that deserves it much more !
Fantastic, its about time we saw rare engines from the pilot scheme get some attention. For far too many years we've seen so much money and resources go on stuff like deltics westerns and hoovers.
Dont get me wrong, i love these too, but they're not exactly rare even though there are not many of these either.
Interesting.I used to have a video of Class 15's at Liverpool Street and had a discussion with somebody about they sounded like.He thought the sound may have been dubbed on but this suggests he was wrong.Great achievement!
@lewisner I'd be interested in seeing this archive file clip you have of a Class 15 at Liverpool st, original Cine film of Class 15 is Uber rare, I collect photos & file clips of Class 15's on behalf of the C15PS and would very much like to see this clip that you have, please contact me :)
@Toontrain Problem is it may have been on a video tape and I got rid of them a while back but I'll check my DVD's. The same video had a Class 15 at Maldon.
@Toontrain Sorry I didn't get back to you.The DVD is "Diesel & Electric Archive Files" by Transport Video Publishing and it includes a stationary 15 then two short clips of a 15 (with sound) hauling a lengthy goods train at Wickham Bishops. In an advert for another of theirs you see D5705 working a laser railhead test coach.
The 15's at Liverpool St must be on another video - I'll keep looking.
@Psycopath22 Google for IrishRailwayNews and then to forums, search for Crossley. There's a whole raft of info on their Crossley A class, and some recordings of the Australian XA class which had identical Crossley/MetroVick drivelines.
May I take this opportunity to congratulate everyone involved in the engine startups that day, and for their hard work they've acheived so far. I was fortunate enough to witness this event from the museum side of the yard. I also like to wish the group all the best of luck for the ongoing project.
Great work guys Keep it up :-)

Brilliant. Buying the model wasn't a waste of time then?
Good luck to all involved. Can't wait to have a ride behind her.
