They are a chapter of our lives; We are their whole story. Looks like you did her story right.
My good girl, (Roxanne) went to be with her love Summet and her kitty boy Eightball on Thursday; August 13, 2009 4:00PM. She was my friend and a good dog; I will miss her.
@refuse37joy thank you to everyone who watched this video, and who has loved and made room in their lives and hearts for another...Merry Christmas to you and ALL your family...Sue
These are awesome dogs! and it amazing me how "wolflike" these dogs look. I had a neighbor that had one and we thought he had a black wolf. We fell in love with the dog and we decided we will get one.
very nice video,we have an belgian shepard to(terveuren)She's 2 years old now and we hope that we have a lot of fun of her.Just you have do that whith dog
Well I did saw all the video, but I was crying all the time. I still am. I used to have a Belgium Sheepdog, for 12 and a half years. Her name was Raisa. I lost her because of cancer about 2 years ago. It still hurts a lot. Nothing will ever take her place into my heart.

Thank you for uploading this video. My Dog died on Thursday and i still can hear his tip-taps on our floor. Your video shows, there are still people who think a dog is a family member and not an object. thanks a lot <3
I couldn't watch the whole video. It was upsetting me too much with a combination of the song and the pictures of your dog as a puppy. I then saw the photo of you wearing the Led Zeppelin t-shirt and immediately thought of their lyrics: "but all that lives is born to die" :( She looks like she was a lovely dog and I bet she had a great life with you. I am considering buying one from this breed next year.
Yep...none of us are going to get out of this one alive ! so maybe the trick is to surround ourselves with ones we love be they human or animal, so when we go our path is marked by the ones our love touched and who loved us
What a beautiful video. I happened on it just now when I searched for Groenendaels. I lost my Shadow to cancer last year, and am still quite torn up about it. He was a rescue, and in so many ways such a good, good boy. I miss him almost constantly, even though it's been 7 months today since I had to let him go. I can tell how much you loved your Annie. She radiated happiness and love having you as her friend. Thanks again.
@steve05401 Hi Steve, you are most welcome, I can honestly say that there is not a day that goes by that I do not think of Annie and Bonnie...the pets that are loved like we loved ours are the lucky ones because every day they spent with us, they were very much loved and cherished and never left cold and hungry like so many are, Shadow was so lucky to have found you to take care of him after such a rough start, at least in the end he died loved
she and my mongrel are my company, the just ask for love and affection and my loyalty is also. my mongrel (crock) have 16years now and my belgian (Nicky) 9years.

Best dogs ever! They have such a lovely coat and are so friendly and loyal. Very sorry you lost your friend, my Belgian/border collie cross is about going on 14 years old now but refuses to give in to old age.
Fantastic lookin dog and i'am sorry for your loss,i had a german terv mix called duke looked more like a belgian sadly i lost him on the 14 july he was 14 years also his hips went.He was a big boy very handsome and very laid back in his later years,he was not just a dog he was my best freind, the bond we had was unique very special i miss him so much always in my heart he will be with me 4ever
@JOTAELEORO Hi there, how are you getting on ? I am glad you like the video, I will never forget my girls as I am sure you will never forget your best friend either. At the moment I dont have a dog just two little maine coon kittens as the place where I live has no fencing, but I am moving soon and will look for a place where I can keep a dog, not that my dogs were outside dogs, but they do need a safe place to run around in, I dont know if I will be able to find another belgian like annie
she liked to sing happy birthday with me,she wouldn't bark to go out so I hung some bells by the door, she would ring them when she wanted the door opened,if I heard something at night I could whisper for her and she would make a full patrol of the house inside and out.she liked playing find it, where I hid a toy somewhere while she waited then I sent her looking for it had her hunting around the house and garden ,then she would bring it back, chase she chased my husband and bonnie chased her
I love it! If I wanted my boy to pay attention I would give a soft "woof" and he was on patrol. When I went away for a few days he would not eat until I came home and he would sleep by the door waiting for me. I hope to find another belgian or a belgian mix in the future, but for now we have a dumb, but sweet Golden Irretrever that is moping around looking for his belgian master.
Hi there, she weighed 33kg which is a little heavy but she looks a lot more as she had a very very heavy coat, I have seen a few groenendaels that came from Australia and they seem to have been bred there without the woolly undercoat that Annie had, but her coat was so thick and shed so much I was tempted to spin it. She found summers very hard to cope with
@apelove4u that would be a lovely cross, I think Newfies have such lovely natures and yes her coat reminded me of a newfies coat, she was like a little black bear cub when she was small
Great vid. I lost my best friend and Belgian mix in Nov. Worst day of my life... He looked like a bigger version of your beutiful Annie. I had never been around such an inteligent and intuitive creature. I always called him my Angel dog. I still feel some guilt in having to make the call to put him down.
Thanks for all your comments, sadly last week Annies little buddy Bonnie the little black cocker spaniel passed away...I can only think that if there is such a place as heaven that they are tearing around the garden together once again...sue
I would defiantly go for the cocker spaniel, the only thing you would have to do is get it young and train it to ignore your cat as they can develop a chasing habit, cocker spaniels are the ideal young childs pet. the groenendael is more of an teenager/adults dog, they need someone who knows how to handle them and children who run around and get them too excited could find themselves being rounded up and nipped on the heels...as they are bred for their herding instinct..

great dog. We have a Malinois (Linus) that is 1 1\2 years old, but is already so
loved. I can't bare the thought of eventually losing him too, as we did our last dog Luke; a wonderful Smooth Collie who died the day before Christmas eve '07 at 12 1\2 years. I did some research and found out that a Belgian Malinois CAN hit 15 years; a decent lifespan for a big dog. To lose your girl at only 10 is disturbing to say the least. I wish you well. -John-
yes it was very sad, she still was in good condition for her age when she got an antibiotic resistant infection in both ears, the vets tried and tested every drug they had but they just couldn't fix her, and I couldn't let her go on in so much pain as both her eardrums burst, so I had to let her go..which broke my heart...one of the hardest things I have had to do
@harewoodhouse Take it from me, it was the best decision and WONDERFULLY brave. My Timbre was a Tervuren and lived 1993 to 2005 and died 12 years to the day I brought him home. The last six months, his hips went, then his nose started to bleed. He had a strokeat lunch and fortunately died the next morning about 3 am. Now I have to think of him as the crippled dog who struggled to get up and was so brave on his last day. I think he wanted to live until he let himself go. They bond so strongly!
@BriganteCars I am so sorry for your loss, bonnie the little cocker spaniel ended up having a stroke in the middle of the night, I woke up in the morning and she was at the bottom of my bed and the scared look that she had in her eyes as she just lay there...I rushed her to the vets but we couldnt save her and had to let her go as she started fitting and passing blood...the hardest thing about owning a pet is letting them go
I seriously cried watching this! thank you. Check out our video of our little belgian chester. He is the most spoiled boy in the world. he is loved by everyone! you should get another one!
the video of chester at the dog park is in our videos... we will have more up soon
wow...that is one beautiful dog, you're very lucky to have owned her. i am going to buy a tervuren soon, i love the belgisn breed. such great dogs for jobs, for kids, and especially as an AMAZING friend. very nice video!
Great video, best dogs in the world. Anyone ever lucky enough to have had one will always be disappointed with any other when you need a fearless dog for outdoor activities, protection and herding abilities.
I think you are right, I love my little cocker spaniel but no where near as much as I loved my Annie, and the bond I had with Annie was far greater then any bond I have ever had with any other dog, she was just so smart and I swear she could read my mind.
I have just finished reading Edgar Sawtelle by David Wroblewski and couldnt help thinking how the dogs in the book were so much like her..she would look at me and would listen to me and tip her head to let me know she was paying attention, for ten years she was always by my side, at anytime day or night all I needed to do was to drop my hand and she would nuzzle it to let me know she was there and if perhaps if I was not to busy a tickle behind the ears would be nice its not easy saying goodbye
I lost my Groenendael last February. He had just turned ten and had an undiagnosed brain tumor and a pain spike made him attack me and my boyfriend. He had to be put down, and in the autopsy they discovered the brain tumor. :( We'd been to a vet only a week earlier and gotten a "he's perfectly healthy, the symptoms (dry cloudy eyes, lack of appetite, loss of coordination/sense of place) are just caused by old age" verdict.
I miss him. There's just no breed as amazing as the Groenendael.
oh I am so sorry to hear that, at least he feels no pain now, and I am sure that to hurt you would of been the last thing he would of wanted...remember him in better times when he was healthy and happy and as you say , there is no breed as amazing as the groenendael!
We have also just lost our Groenendael Cassie age 12 1/2. She had to be put down on Christmas eve due to two strokes, one on each side. She couldn't stand in the end but would drag herself to her lead when you would get up. The kids are distraught but your poems help and make us realise that she was still the best thing that happened to us. When the time is right it will definitely be another Belgium. She saved my life twice, I only wish I could have saved hers.Love Barry,Anne, Katie & Stephen
Hi there, I know how you will be missing your girl, 12 1/2 years is a good lifespan for a Groenendael, and lets face it, they have your heart at the first look into your eyes that they give you. I am glad you liked the poem I found.
I hope you have a happy new year, and when the time is right another dog wags its way into your life....sue
Wow, your video made me all teary eyed. I have a belgian mix. She looks a lot like yours. I love that dog so much. She's incredibly smart, has a lot of personality, and is probably one of the funniest dogs I've ever seen. But, she has epilepsy.. A while back she had a cluster of siezures and we had to bring her into the vet. She went on siezure watch. We dicussed putting her to sleep, and it just wrecked me to think about. Thankfully, they stopped and we didn't have to put her down.
Well I am very happy to hear that you have a chance to spend another Christmas with your girl, I hope you both have a happy and healthy new year...sue
she was the best dog I have ever had the good fortune to live with, and I miss her every day, they are very smart, sometimes too smart and they need to be trained from early on who is the leader, they have very strong guarding and herding instincts and although I didn't have any problems with Annie her sister Tasha was a devil, when she went to the beach she would round up all the children and refuse to let them swim, and if they got into the water she would rescue them if they wanted it or not!
Oh that is great to hear, I am sure your new friend will bring much joy into your life, and so great you are giving him a better chance at life by rescuing him from the pound.. :)sue
thanks for watching my video, I am so sorry your dog died in such a horrible way, more people should be made aware of the dangers of leaving dogs in cars, maybe you will find one of the pups has his spirit...
My beloved Hermes got sick(kidneys) at the age of 10 and passed away 5 months ago.We buried him in the backyard and got an identical puppy the same day(extremely beautiful & quiet/shy puppy, giant growth)
Last week, somebody poisoned my 6 month old puppy. We hadn't even decided it's name yet...
i liked your video, i had my own belgian shepherd since i was 7 years old. im 20 now. we got her put down yesterday because she was very sick and i haven't been able to sleep a wink. it is a very tough thing to lose a pet that you have watched grow up and loved for so long. but your video helped me feel a little better.
If it should be that I grow frail and weak And pain does keep me from my sleep, Then will you do what must be done For this - the last battle - can't be won. You will be sad I understand But don't let grief then stay your hand. For on this day, more than the rest Your love and friendship must stand the test. We have had so many happy years, You wouldn't want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go. Take me to where my needs they'll tend, Only, stay with me till the end. And hold me firm and speak to me Until my eyes no longer see. I know in time you will agree It is a kindness you do to me. Although my tail its last has waved, From pain and suffering I have been saved. Don't grieve that it must now be you Who has to decide this thing to do. We've been so close - we two -these years, Don't let your heart hold any tears.
I am so sorry for your loss, and I know how much it hurts, after I had to have Annie put down I came on this poem and I hope it helps you like it helped me...kindest regards...sue
LOVELY, LOVELY TRIBUTE to a wonderful dog... As the owner of a Belgian Groenendael, I know how deep things run for the dogs & their owners. Is that Jackson Browne who's song you chose?
did u lost her?, if u did im sorry shes beautifu my dog died 3 months ago and i only had him for 3 years, and i told my other dog i wouldn't know wat i would do withouther cuz i almost stop believing in love when he passed away
Your Annie was obviously a gift from heaven. Belgians are amazing! So devoted and protective, yet so loving and non-aggressive. I hope they never get too popular, so that they stay unspoiled.
Can anyone please help me? I have been trying to find a groenendael for sale for awhile now and I cant find any in the midwest. Or any for sale at all in that matter. Every time I search I want one more and more. Can anyone give me any ideas where to look? I live in Iowa.
OMG!!!! we've got one too, his name is keeper and we are crazy about him. He is 7 years old and he is just wonderfull...WE ADORE HIMMMM!!!!!!! And this video made me cry my heart out...lovely!!!!
They are lovely dogs. there is´nt much more to say about them. wonderful, thats what they are. got our second one know. he is born februari so he is becomming four years this year. Here in sweden, they isnt that regular but they aint that hard to find :) and they are so goodlooking, try to find a dog who runs like an groenendael. there is non!
yes they are very pretty dogs and nothing looks nicer then when they are running with the wind blowing through their long coats...I like the photos I have seen of them playing in the snow,Annie never saw snow but I am sure she would of loved it...she loved water and rescuing driftwood at the beach
I have a belgian sheepdog/boarder collie mix and he's the best dog. Annie was very pretty dog. I know you miss her. I'm at college right now and can't have my dog, so I miss him alot. They are such smart and gentle dogs. Nice vid ^^
If I cant get a groenendael puppy when the time is right to get another pup I think I will get a rough coat collie as the one bad thing about the groenendael is being black and we have very hot summers and poor annie had to have all her coat shawn off because she got too hot, I lost count of the number of paddle pools I bought for her to play in as she kept digging holes in the bottoms :)
Thank you all for your comments on my video...one day I hope to have another groenendael like Annie in my life, but they are hard to get in new zealand, and for now I have to look after her little sidekick Bonnie the black cocker spaniel who is missing her as well.
i love this breed she was such a gorgeous dog u were blessed to have her.

Great video, best dogs in the world. Anyone ever lucky enough to have had one will always be disappointed with any other when you need a fearless dog for outdoor activities, protection and herding abilities.

I think you are right, I love my little cocker spaniel but no where near as much as I loved my Annie, and the bond I had with Annie was far greater then any bond I have ever had with any other dog, she was just so smart and I swear she could read my mind.
harewoodhouse 2 years ago
I am sure she could. Mine could read my emotional state like no human could even do.

I miss him. There's just no breed as amazing as the Groenendael.
plinsessa 3 years ago
oh I am so sorry to hear that, at least he feels no pain now, and I am sure that to hurt you would of been the last thing he would of wanted...remember him in better times when he was healthy and happy and as you say , there is no breed as amazing as the groenendael!

I hope you have a happy new year, and when the time is right another dog wags its way into your life....sue
harewoodhouse 3 years ago

Your Belgian Shepherd is beautiful. I've never had a dog but have always wanted to get one of these.
irishotter 3 years ago
she was the best dog I have ever had the good fortune to live with, and I miss her every day, they are very smart, sometimes too smart and they need to be trained from early on who is the leader, they have very strong guarding and herding instincts and although I didn't have any problems with Annie her sister Tasha was a devil, when she went to the beach she would round up all the children and refuse to let them swim, and if they got into the water she would rescue them if they wanted it or not!

thanks for watching my video, I am so sorry your dog died in such a horrible way, more people should be made aware of the dangers of leaving dogs in cars, maybe you will find one of the pups has his spirit...

We have had so many happy years, You wouldn't want me to suffer so.
harewoodhouse 3 years ago
When the time comes, please, let me go. Take me to where my needs they'll tend, Only, stay with me till the end. And hold me firm and speak to me Until my eyes no longer see. I know in time you will agree It is a kindness you do to me. Although my tail its last has waved, From pain and suffering I have been saved. Don't grieve that it must now be you Who has to decide this thing to do. We've been so close - we two -these years, Don't let your heart hold any tears.

I live in Iowa.

yes they are very pretty dogs and nothing looks nicer then when they are running with the wind blowing through their long coats...I like the photos I have seen of them playing in the snow,Annie never saw snow but I am sure she would of loved it...she loved water and rescuing driftwood at the beach
