i was watching bob nystrom's tribute fights: i notice that there weren't many of the phila. flyers in his tribute, only one was when pussy nystrom went after the elder gentleman ed van impe who clearly didn't show any sign that he wanted to engage with him!iI know for sure nystrom had lots, lots fights with the flyers!i don't think he won any? maybe one!the best fight would of been when MEL BRIDGEMAN (rookie year)went toe2toe and pummeled nystrom to belivian!thought his hair was going to fly out!!
Sorry for the novel, I thought you and some others would enjoy hearing that story which is 100% true.
It would be nice if the rivals of both teams could write their own personal experiences into a book, I am sure it would be a good read.........well...........for the diehards.

@uiwqe Speculation. Wuolda coulda shoulda. And McPhee butted Nystrom blatantly. Twice. George Butted him because he was getting his ass kicked. Bobby just returned the favor..........
@uiwqe You must be confused, Nystrom not only won that fight with George, but he gave him a nice head butt as a pre-opening to any fight McPhee wanted to have should he decide to go with Bobby again in that game.
Nystrom went after him again and again in that game and McPhee didn't want anymore.
That says a-lot since McPhee was one tough little Irishmen, Nystrom was no one to fuck with........E V E R.
@uiwqe McPhee never kicked his ass to begin with you idiot.
McPhee didn't even want to fight him again in that game because he took such a beating. No, McPhee instead went for Duane Sutter or some "easier" opponent.
Don't get me wrong, I always liked McPhee, it was unfortunate he had to play with a shit organization like the Rangers.
@mrceebees14 whats wrong with the rangers??u know somthing,,i lived on long island and i had to keep it kida secret that i was a ranger fan for fear of retaliation, lol
@mrceebees14 ,,i know,,i was a kid back then,,i knew to keep it a secret,as much as i hated the islanders,,lol,,did like gillies though.so i.m very familiar with the rivalry,,and the rangers getting the shit kicked out of them phsically by the flyers too.lol
@uiwqe There was this kid I remember, he was the smallest in his class, so small he looked like he should have been 4th grade when he was actually in 6th grade. He was decent at sports and had a temper at times. He was not the best student at all, but not because he was stupid, the kid was just lazy and joked around too much. To make a long story short, this kid was a BIG Rangers fan. I give him props because back then he was the only one who dared to wear a freaking blue Rangers jersey
@uiwqe to school. He also had a sweatshirt, a hat, a Pen all with the Rangers logo on it. This kid use to get fucked with A-LOT because of that, others would throw rock at him in the spring and snowballs and pieces of ice in the winter, they were brutal. But this kid never gave up, he kept rooting right up until I last saw him in High School which brings me to the funniest part of this. We are sitting in home room class in High school, it's our senior year, it was 1990.
@uiwqe There was this one sloppy looking kid in our class who was just a plain loser and from time to time he would talk trash to this kid. Well, 1990 was officially 50 years that the Rangers had gone without winning the cup, so he turns to this kid and goes "50 years this year!!!" But he did it in a spiteful way, next thing I know..............WHAM!!!!!!!!! The Ranger fan snaps and just starts unloading on him, it took 4 of us to pull him off the guy.
@uiwqe The kid who got beat up decided to do it again, this time in Drivers Ed class, but this time it was different. It was at the end of the year now and the Rangers and Isles just squared off in game 1 of the playoffs that year. This was the Vukota jumps Bloemberg fight. He pipes off to the Ranger fan and says "catch that beat down the other night? Bloemberg was trying to tell him he was a Born Again Christian and Vukota went oh yeah? boom!boom!boom!" Once again, the kid got his ass kicked.
Nystrom was awesome. he would kick anybodys ass and then score the winning goal in overtime. I was there when he won the 1st cup for the Islanders. Great day!!
I actually had one of the fights in your video. When I played for the Blackhawks. I was # 2 Troy Looney. Bobby was one strong dude and had a great right hand. Tx for the memeories.
Not like the hockey today where they just skate around.
Wear helmets and visor's score 10 goals and make 4.5 million.
Without guys like Nystrom and Gillies the Islanders probably don't win 4 cups in a row. they were that valuable. Never looking for trouble but would gladly finish off players who were.
Good point. They were very good players in addition to being tough guys. But even though Gillies was probably the best fighter of that period he wasn't as apt to fight as Nystrom was. The PIM totals prove it. Gillies NEVER had as many as 100 PIM in a season. Bossy said the word around the league was "don't wake up Gillies", because he was a guy who left people alone & fought sparingly. Nystrom was a rougher and more agressive player. Every tough guy the Isles had was also a good player.
I never liked the Islanders but always respected Nystrom. He took on the toughest guys in the NHL and seldom lost.Never wore a helmet either..He was one tough dude, could really throw 'em
