While I do agree that Mike is better, the stuff Travis is doing are drumline warmups. The first being what we called SCV diddets was used to get chops for double stroke rolls and timing between the hands and feet, and also to get the timing of the 16th notes. 8s are to perfect technique, and triples are to warm up the fingers. Every major drumline does those warm ups because they really do work.

Shows how much practice can make you better. Travis's left hand isn't nearly as fluid as his right. You can see him really concentrating on it. Where as Mike is as fluent on both sides. Being equal on both sides is what most drummers are working towards. Great vid though and both these guys kick ass.

you can hear in portnoys solos that he isnt a "rudiment guy". he plays the drums more like a melodic instrument rather than just to keep time, and i love that, but hes definitely not the greatest soloist, they tend to get very boring when he goes on for too long. hes still my favourite drummer of all time though.
