I had....HAD health insurance through my job,,,and then one day...i no longer had insurance....talk about a shock!! so now i get to be one of the uninsured....again...and I still have the same job!!!

Well I have, and it's always the a similar story. 3 year waiting lists for important surgeries, many surgeries are no longer practiced as they cannot be afforded in the budget.
Not to mention no one has the "right" to other peoples' money!
It's a matter of organization to make it work, most people in countries that has always had nationalised healthcare will argue for it on the basis of humanitarian reasons. I have no problem paying a little extra taxes if it helps someone out there to a better life, it's my countrymen and i care for them, and they do the same for me if i get sick. Mentalities like that is what keeps people together.

REALLY?? I have a brother recently diagnosed with a progressive illness and will be going on disability but it's taken 2 years and lots of wait time in our Canadian medical system for treatment. Thank God he had private insurance to help with supporting his family. I hope you never do get sick BUT don't think everything is all rosey in our country either.

I definitely know our system is not perfect but I think it is much better than the US system where patient's family have to scrambling to raise up enough money to save the lives of their beloved. Healthcare is expansive, really expensive. I can't sit for long without my back hurting and my arms make clearly audible grinding/cracking noise if I do pullups from over working. That's just the way things are, unless you're rich or you have health insurance that covers enough of the bill, you suck it the f*** up. If the government bankrupted itself to treat everybody, our lack of healthcare would be the least of our problems plus we have to give handouts to other countries before we get it :/

get medicaid for a nursing home bed, that is a automatic right
to medicaid and she certainly needs to be in a nursing home.
by now she must be in a wheelchair in April 2011.
I am not saying that is a great choice but she can get medicaid
right now and that is it and her medications and wheelchairs
would be paid for. She will have to give up the dog , they don't
allow dogs in nursing homes and all wheelchair low income

Well I have, and it's always the a similar story. 3 year waiting lists for important surgeries, many surgeries are no longer practiced as they cannot be afforded in the budget.
Not to mention no one has the "right" to other peoples' money!

It's a matter of organization to make it work, most people in countries that has always had nationalised healthcare will argue for it on the basis of humanitarian reasons. I have no problem paying a little extra taxes if it helps someone out there to a better life, it's my countrymen and i care for them, and they do the same for me if i get sick. Mentalities like that is what keeps people together.

@eric5906 I've also spoken with a number of people in these countries who have nothing but complaints about the quality of health care they receive. One woman I know in Canada had to wait 19 months to see a specialist, by then cancer had spread into her blood.

REALLY?? I have a brother recently diagnosed with a progressive illness and will be going on disability but it's taken 2 years and lots of wait time in our Canadian medical system for treatment. Thank God he had private insurance to help with supporting his family. I hope you never do get sick BUT don't think everything is all rosey in our country either.

Healthcare is expansive, really expensive. I can't sit for long without my back hurting and my arms make clearly audible grinding/cracking noise if I do pullups from over working. That's just the way things are, unless you're rich or you have health insurance that covers enough of the bill, you suck it the f*** up. If the government bankrupted itself to treat everybody, our lack of healthcare would be the least of our problems plus we have to give handouts to other countries before we get it :/

I know the coporate media in the US really likes to critisize socialised medicine, but after watching this video, Im so thankfull I live here.

A European country like Sweden is able to have cradle-to-the-grave free healthcare because:
1. They have fewer people (thanks to birth control).
2. They regulate child-targeted ads, so kids eat less junk.
3. The people don't fatten themselves on junk food.
Texas is the obesity capital of the USA. And New York is getting heavier. God knows how many ER cases are due to poor nutrition.

If fewer children are born to unstable teenage mothers, then there will be fewer troubled people to take care of. The ER's are swamped with gunshot victims, overweight people having heart attacks, and more.
We need to persuade more men to get vasectomies. A 20 year old man with two kids by different women needs to stop.

I so hate when folk compare a small country like sweden to a huge country like america. with a similar medical structurere like in sweden there is no way america could cover 25% fo its citizens.Sweden' population is roughly 9 millions. chances are their minsiter of health know every person with cancer in the country. 9 mio that's not even half the population fo Philadelphia.compare oranges with apples.

Hum..I hate to say this but health care is about a balance of a budjet.a deficit is much more problematic then we think.of course when you are ill you don't care about that, rightfully so.
the human side exist for those who can afford it or those who are lucky.There are just so many doctors who can work and can be paid.they are actually outnumbered by the growing number of patients and modern day diseases .

The only perfect governemnet was the Republic America once had before it was infiltrated by corrupt elites and the people were manipulated and dumbed down. A free Republic is the solution for freedom and happiness for everyone. In your theory no one has the right to prosper or choose there fate.

A free republic would be a good form of government if the people were smart and well educated.
With America, where the people are generally naïve, religious and greedy, a republic would be a disaster.
Though communism may not allow prosperity, capitalism doesn't allow it too because once all the wealth is maintained in the top 1% of the population, everyone else would only be enabled to debt, and a life of hardships.
All in all, communism gives equality, while capitalism gives inequality.

The original American republic did not allow the "general corporation" to exist until the late 1800s, corps were tightly regulated by States, people were unwilling to submit to unregulated tyranny of govt-protected corp power.
Been there, done that, had a revolution.
read Gangs of America, how some businessmen and corrupt judges granted our Bill of Rights to corporate entities, as if they were human.
We also were tricked into shifting tax from Economic Rent to wages and productive capital.

Founders either wanted to forbid corporations, or only in narrow circumstances, but they escaped chains. Every corporation is backed by Govt and Law.

Our economic problems are caused by govt-backed corporations (every single one is a govt entity), including banking institutions. These are global, more than national.
As for govt, govt acts to HELP them loot society, not hinder us. America has ENORMOUS EXTRAORDINARY WEALTH, and it's all been shifted and concentrated, usually in Economic Rents, not in production.
On reversing this concentration & shift, many people whine and cry "how dare you protect us, you damn govt. Thats socialism."

Read "Gangs of America" not about street gangs. For first 100 years, we didn't have general incorporation, lots of good business. States abolished any chartered corp that broke rules.
Few ppl used legal tricks, plus bribe lawmakers and judges to grant power & Const rights to railroad corps.
read Michael Hudson. His solution is to return to CLASSICAL econ of growth, not voodoo econ or neoliberalism. Stop promoting parasitic Economic Rents like a private tax.

It is obvious this video is pushing a socialist-communist agenda . It is very heartbreaking that adults and children suffer from illness but we must all accept responsibilities for our own lively hood and not an attitude of entitlement to other peoples bank accounts. You take money from the poor as well as the rich !!! This does not lead to a prosperous nation as a whole . "IF" Obama is serious about solving the medical care probelm for "Legal" citizens of America? He must prove it by:
- Not allowing illegal immigration to continue.
- Not allowing amnesty to be granted.
- Make sure "Legal" Americans get served first by supplimintation.
Watch to see if Obama does these things. For in the past he has A) sued Citi Bank to provide low interest loans. B) Approved 3rd trimester abortions. C) Talked about allowing amnesty & not blocking illegal immigration.
