best part is, it's just the skin being pinched... it's a reflex that is "built" into cats.. that's how mothers transport the young to safety in the event of an emergency. Just like the way you hold your breath under water.. you don't think about it... you just do it. The cat reacts in the same way.. but, intead of holding it's breath, it just sits there.. waiting to be let go.
Cats do that because the back of the neck is where a mother cat will bite to transport her babies, so this cat stopped moving to make it easier for the mother to move her.
The look on the cat's eyes at 0:20 is like "Bitch I will KILL you if you don't take this thing off the back of my neck! And even if you do, I'm still going to wreak a horrible vengeance on all of mankind!"
@n9athan the way it works is that there is a vein there. so it doenst let blood flow and it could kill the cat in 2 minutes..reply back and tell me if i was helpful k
Pictures of mother cats carrying its kittens by its scruff are everywhere, i wonder why most of the population of earth havent noticed that. Try putting that paper clip with a LARGE surface area on your skin, it barely hurts. If its a paper clip with a SMALLER surface area then its a different story
Cat: No, im not staying here, ive heard about what you do, i saw those needles, and those meds are nasty. Im getting outta here. Hey hey hey! what are you do-
*Puts clamp on*
cat: Ohhhhh..... ok..... i'll... i'll stay here a while.... alright.. huh... this is oddly fimiliar......
Are you crazy!?!? How could you do this to the poor paper clip!?! This is complete and utter abuse! paper clips have feelings too!!1!1!! guys I mean HOW are you even watching such horror! I can't even..whatever
Are you guys nuts?! Think of what you're doing to that poor binder clip!! The cat could seriously hurt him!
Seriously... Just stop. The only reason why the cat froze was because when cats were young that was how their mother picked them up. So he froze on instinct. In no way is he injured and besides I'm pretty sure a VET would know what he or she is doing. They had done so much more serious studies then you guys so please just chill out.
Its a fucking vet for gods sake. Im sure that the owner wouldnt pay a £54678912376498263409182634918236409802183478529 vet bill for the VET to damage the spinal cord.
Chill the fuck out. when its a newborn or a kitten how the fuck do you think the mother would carry it in the wild? On a fucking flying carpet?!
It's extremely loose skin that is used by their mothers for picking them up. Just like cats. Put the clip on the extra skin on your elbow when it is straightened out. That's how it feels to them. You can't even feel it.
@dropdeadkiera i totally tried this, just to see what it feels like lol, almost no pain at all and i imagine that even with teeth it wouldnt hurt much more.
I've dealt with cats. I'm a firm believer in animal rights and if you think the cat is being treated in a inhumane way you're a fucking idiot. I have in fact (when I'm bored out of my mind) put those clips on my body, even my bottom lip. It doesn't hurt and there aren't really sensitive nerves in the scruff of animals because of animals being carried that way from birth. My sister's cat was much more rough on her babies than that. And might I remind you animals sometimes eat their young.
To all of yinz that say "this is what vets do" they don't do it with paper clamps. A paper clamp, if left on long enough to do an operation, would deprive the skin of bloodflow and injure the cat's skin. Besides which, cats are anesthetized during operations and are otherwise restrained. I worked in an animal hospital and never saw a paper clamp used.
This was probably shot at the vet's office "after hours" when the docs weren't around.
Dear SOB, if you worked in my veterinary office, you'd get fired and referred to a psychiatrist.
Vets and vet techs who are responsible don't clamp a cat's neck fold. They hold it firmly in their FINGERS, but don't squash the skin in a freaking CLAMP.
This clamp is for use on papers, not living animals, YOU IDIOT.
@katmatally abloobloobloo. I'm fairly certain the cat would have flipped shit as soon as the clamp was removed if it was painful. grow a thicker skin you titanic crybaby, seriously.

@katmatally calm down bro if that cat was in pain then you would see it moving like its in pain. cants dont just go still like that when in pain, thats an instinct they were born with that carries on to adulthood. and i've seen vets do that everywhere so dont say that they cant or shouldnt do that cuz your wrong. vets do that so they can use both hands while operating. so if your gonna start protesting for animal rights or something, then learn your facts before doing so.

As long as you don't use a powerful clamp, it won't harm the cat. Mother cats pick their kittens up by the scruff of the neck, and kittens instinctively go limp in response to make it easier for the mother to move them. That instinct carries on into adulthood, which is why the cat stops moving when its scruff is clamped.
However, it still doesn't seem very nice to trick a poor cat, so maybe just leave it up to the vets.
ok, so I have a cat who's temperamental and it's really difficult for me to clip her nails....if I did this would she really stay still to the point where I WILL be able to clip her nails?
Some of these type clips are very strong and would hurt the cat. If you do this, make sure that the clamping power is not excessive.
