Actually, in 1977, there was another very bad night at Monroe Harbor, when about 30 boats broke free from their moorings, with about 8 sinking.
There would have been more, except scads of owners and sailors worked feverishly to save loose boats as they approached the seawall at the north end of of the harbor. We would fend the boats off, attach lines, and walk each boat along the shoreline, then tie them off in the lee of Columbia Yacht Club. a former lake steamer named Florida.
