Those seeds were chocolate covered sunflower seeds which have become fairly widely available. Regular sunflower seeds would also work, though!

Thanks for this instructional video. It made this particular experiment easier to plan. Question about the seeds: were they seeds? They kinda' looked like M&Ms. 'Let me know. Thanks!
