To me, turning 21 in Australia does not really deserve all that hype. I believe that all this hype has been placed on it because of the Americanization of the world. In America turning 21 means you can do stuff that we've been doing in Australia when we turn 18, seriously what's the big deal? For us it generally means that we can drink in America, and pretty much gives us the green light to go to Las Vegas and reenact 'The Hangover'

While you're doing that check out the academy award nominated film Persepolis (or the comic) They're really good, and the film won the 2007 Jury prize at Canne. It's about a girl growing up in Iran and Austria, and since it's autobiographical is far more based on reality than a web series about a conspiracy. Some people flirt and act this way, some people don't, you can't help being upset but I don't think it'd be fun for filmmakers to be worried about including an imperfect Muslim character.

It's just being realistic, in fact I'd say it's toned down heavily from the reality. Sometimes in drama and real life people contradict themselves.

Why the Muslim character? Because they exist. Should I stick with Christian or other characters? I'm trying to be inclusive and portray reality as it is. This is drama, things happen in drama and just because a character is Muslim doesn't mean she's going to be a symbol of 'perfection' or stereotype.
