  • Also, don't judge by looks. you say 'white people in the background', but remember how our People mixed blood to be able to pass as white, but be Tsalagi inside? Those are the people who helped keep our Spirit alive. Go back and tell them how not Tsalagi they are. It's hard to 'prove' anything with documents, as so much was lost or kept secret and over the generations, forgetten or mixed up. I can 'prove' I am Tsalagi, but 4 what? I don't ask 4 money, benifits, ect Only acceptance by my People.

  • Damn, look at all these negative comments. . . . I can't believe how some of you fellow Natives are acting. Being Native isn't all about blood, it's also a way of life. You can't change how much blood you have, but you can choose how to live. Going by blood quantum is not a Tsalagi way, it was introduced to our People by the other world. Acceptance by your own people is never something you should have to fight for. There is no 'part Tsalagi'. Either you are, or aren't.

  • @spiritsoulhippie My ancestors fought against the Fed Gov w/Dragging Canoe in Tennesse years before the removal; in Georgia those ancestors that made it fled to the hills; they pretty much went under the radar and are not on any rolls. Some of the natives attitutudes are terrible; the fact that my ancestors were in the Eastern US meaning 1st contact decades before the Europeans came to the west; on plush lands. Meaning many would be mixed blood too if they were on the East/instead of West

  • @ivegottaheadache cont'd or Southwest hundreds of years later; and on desert lands, (which cannot grow crops...or forget it; they wouldn't have a REZ if that was the case and would be mainly mixed blood and not many relatives! I don't have tons of native cousins, because those that survived wasn't necessarily a whole family!

  • @ivegottaheadache Same here on my Dad's side, my Dad looks full blood but he's only 3/4 and he can't be a member of the eastern band of cherokee because he can't trace his lineage back even though members of the tribe know his family very well. My mom is only 1/2 but her ancestors were on the dawes roll and thats how I had to get my NDN card. The way the Eastern B.O.C. is set up now is ridiculous. They should allow members not shown on the dawes roll but can prove it by other means. Go UCN!

  • there gathering talkn bout where the new casino is gonna be

  • Funny, I get interested in Cherokee Nation and Cherokee language and first thing I find is comments by Native Americans trashing other Native Americans. Is this like New Yorkers trashing Southerners? Should I, a white man of German-Ulster (and possibly Cherokee) ancestry, not pursue learning the Cherokee language and not promote the Cherokee Nation?

  • @Tov0voT If you look white then no, you will be joked on by natives who don't like whites. I'm mixed blood but I look native, its all about how you look to some of these people.

  • @CountryBoyVa That's sad. I belong to a Greek Orthodox Church comprised of mostly Greeks, but also Romanians, Russian, & even Ethiopians. The Greeks whom I know love it when ANYONE tries to speak Greek w/them. Our Greek Festivals are fantastic! My daughter's school has shirts w/words in Tsalagi Gawonihisdi, using the Cherokee syllabary. Should I tell my blonde-haired green-eyed daughter that the Cherokee people are offended by her interest in ᏎᏉᏯ & the Cherokee language?

  • @Tov0voT I'm not trying to be mean or anything, I'm giving you an honest outlook, I think its terrible how some indians treat outsiders but I can also see where they are coming from too. My culture is the last thing that we have left that is sacred to us that the white man has not yet hijacked. So yes, some cherokee people would be offended. I'm not offended I think it's cool that your daughter is interested in our way of life but others take the offensive.

  • @CountryBoyVa My brother's wife is 100% Lakota. She told me she refuses twenty dollar bills because of Andrew Jackson's horrible treatment of Indians. She's an activist of sorts among her people. She hates fake Indiana stuff. I'm surprised she's with my brother. He looks like a mountain man; long hair and beard. She's very nice to him and to me and my family. We get along great, but she has refused to come to our house on Thanksgiving day. I guess I don't blame her for how she feels.

  • @Tov0voT Yeah there's a lot of hurt that lies within the NDN community. I just got back from The Qualla tonight from visiting with some of my family and they even got on my back for wearing my western boots even though many NDNs wear western boots because it represented cowboys. I can understand your sister-in-law's reaction to andrew jackson. He really betrayed us (Tsalagi) because after assisting him with horseshoe bend he turns around and smacks us with the NDN removal act!

  • @Tov0voT As far as thanksgiving I really don't get. All my family celebrates thanksgiving but we also celebrate our thanksgiving the Creator in our green corn ceremony. On a side note you oughta visit Cherokee, NC with your daughter, she'd prolly like it alot. Lots of fun things for kids in the summer time.

  • @Tov0voT first of all these people are not native this a fake tribe of a bunch of wannabe frauds there are only three cherokee tribe and this sure is hell not one not one of them ... and to answer your question fine learn our language bu dontt pretend to be something you arent.. im so tired of this my great grandma was a cherokee princess shit.. unless you have a tribal enrollment card... a real one ..not the one thyt these prendians try to make you pay 50 dollars for ..

  • @Tov0voT then you can say something but dont talk about things you do not know anything abou.t i know its harsh but thats life we native are so fed up with all fake wannabes

  • @XxNaTiVeBaBiiDoLLxX I'm German-Ulster (Ulster = Scottish + English who settled in Northern Ireland). I hear a lot of arguments about who is and isn't really White. Perhaps every group does that. My first comment on here was posted before I left the GOP (after 25 years) and became a Democrat. My world-view has dramatically changed. Please disregard anything I've said in the past that is or appears offensive.

  • @Tov0voT Funny story (at least I think it is funny): I went zip lining w/my brother & his 100% Lakota girlfriend. I enjoyed the zip lining & screamed for fun on several of the lines. Afterwards, my brother’s girlfriend praised him for not screaming & told me that screaming is a sign of fear. She was serious, too. Oh, well, that won't stop me from screaming the next time I do something fun like that with them :-)

  • and by the way it's pronounced salugi, not talugi. that just shows how native american you are... not even pronouncing things properly.

  • look at the people in the background! the "cherokees" are nothing more then whites wanting to be native american. no wonder the government didn't accept them as native americans...

  • oh my gosh!! this is the most bogus crap i've ever seen! these people ain't cherokee. and he butchered that little bit of cherokee he jus tryed to speak. he didn't say none of those words right!. man this is embarrassing and insulting.

  • I'm sorry I couldn't make it. I'm a member of the United Cherokee Nation as well. Wonderful people. Wanting to actually "learn" and pass on our native heritage and not just be a #.

  • HAHA...I filmed this a year ago....I had to skip out on some fun night the rest of you jerks were having to film something that didn't even get edited until a year later...you should quit GATV Now...oh wait...HA.
