  • nice post. I'm glad you used facts and statistics, instead of just stating your opinion.

  • Thanks. I believe that one should understand the issue when making an opinion, which means informing oneself of the facts before coming to a conclusion.

    Cheers!

  • ...I get a kick out of hearing about these "Death Panels"...isnt that what you guys have already? A panel (of insurance brokers) who decides who gets the medical attention?

Good vid...good points...glad you are doing better :)

  • Lol. good one. Yeah. It's good to be healthy... and be insurred.

  • I really don't know what to think about this new idea of health care system. I'm all for helping those who couldn't afford health care. I hear both negative and positive aspects of this proposal. As I said, I still, really don't know what to think about it. I am fortunate, where I have never needed extensive care for an illness, accident, or anything. I am still very much in the grey area on this. If people need help, I think we should help them.

  • I guess that's the most important thing, and that's what I'm pushing for... that the necessary help is available for those who need it, and it is affordable to them. People shouldn't be going bankrupt over health costs. People shouldn't be delaying diagnosis and avoiding treatment due to health costs. Such care should be available and affordable to all.

  • I have a friend in England who said he grew up with this kind of health system and he supports it 100%. ajbadbury on youtube here is the who who mentioned it. people are people and as you said, we are all interconnected. I admit, I am slowly being turned to the health care system that Obama is requesting. as you said, you are not democratic or republican. Neither am I. hmmm. . . . . . . don't know what else to say.. ... . .

  • My belief is that politics shouldn't be about discord between democrats and republicans, or ANY groups. Choices shouldn't be made based on whether someone likes the other guy or not. They should be based on the facts, and what a person truly believes ins the right thing based on those facts. It shouldn't be about Obama or Palin or any politician. It should be about the people, and our needs.

  • I haven't heard of many health insurance companies going bankrupt. I have however, heard a fair share of horror stories about these companies have denied coverage to save money. We, can't unfortunately, deny ourselves bad health in order to the same.

  • No... I've not heard of bankruptcies in Health Insurance. What I HAVE heard is of Health Insurance CEO's earning enough in a day to cover a single person for an entire year... And yeah, the horror stories too. It's nice that they can pick and choose who and what they cover. We don't have any choice of how and when we get injured or sick.

  • Costs are ALREADY enormous - they're just hidden. Do you know, for example, how much your local hospitals receive from the government for treating indigent patients? Another thing - the cost is much higher because a) the care is rendered at a hospital, and b) it's usually at the emergency room, and c) it's often for conditions that have become worse due to lack of preventive care.

  • Obama will make it WORK! You watch him! Peter it is always so good to see you commenting. LV loves you.

  • Agreed. And thank YOU for stopping by as well! However, please note that the focus isn't Obama or politicians... it's the issue that's important and the fact that it's the right thing to do, taking care of the people. Who's behind it shouldn't be a factor in its consideration IMO. It needn't be a war between people who just don't like a person supporting it. It (and all politics) should be based on the facts of reality and what's best for the people, NOT who is behind the ideas and support.

  • It has long been known that it is the right thing to do. I sat in on Senate Hearings on this very subject in 1990 and they said it well but did nothing. ( jawboning they called it ) No more of that. Time to fix the problem. Public health is worth it. We have to depend on them to defend us and they have not done a good job so far. I am not on the gravey train yet. ha ha

  • I also know that many of the unemployed would gladly accept a raise in taxes when thy return to work in order to have health insurance..

Finally, if you follow the statistics link, you'll see that our current system is extremely inefficient. With changes, costs can be greatly reduced, and with increased health and more people able to work, there would also be those incomes feeding the economy.

  • True, but the government have made it clear that they will do their utmost to prevent increases affecting those earning less than $250K. Yes, there are those who strongly resist that, but many people I speak to, including those who earn below the $250K line, would gladly accept some tax increases for a National health care program with a public option.

I know the UK's program isn't perfect, but I've heard good things about it. I'd love it if you could tell us some about the UK program.
