I like the idea, however your approach is flawed. If Apple was so inclined you could be easily caught for fraud. Leaving tape inside as evidence. The better approach would be to short out any ESD sensitive electronics or just take a 9v battery and start sparking shit lol. Either way, much harder to find the evidence of tampering. Also, wear gloves. Any fingerprints will show you were in there.

I got a new one. Just have to know how to work it. Make an appointment during a busy time go in and say it broke off in your charger (bring charger if necessary). I got a new phone and charger no questions asked. I was prepared to go to the manager.

You guys are really over-thinking this. Just break a piece off of your dock connector and tell them it cracked off inside your charger. It will be visually broken so the tech won't even bother to power it up or check for water damage, etc. He'll just look at it and then get you a replacement. Done.

i did the same thing on my iphone 3g but the fuckin retarded genius at apple told me that he is going to take it apart and fix it i told him if he could just replace my whole phone and he didn't so i took it back home at removed the tape so please if there is any other way help me out cauz my warranty is ending in 2 weeks and this didnt work out to well 4 me almost but not quoit there.

Well what i would do it try and unplug the cable at the top so the sleep button doesnt work or something. But that is just to be extra safe and focus there eyes more on the top of the phone. But i am sure u could do do the home button to but there is a slight chance they might see it but most likely not. But if they find it and turn u down. all u have to do is go another time and hope to get some one new and hopefully they wont see it lol I have done that be for.

I have replaced mine like 4 times and every time i unplugged something or did the home button tap thing and i never hear back from them saying oh u did this you self or anything. So you dont have to worry about that.

hey thanks man im gunna sub to you, my iphone 3g had a cracked screen and all i did was take it apart put the tape over that little gold piece and the home button stopped working, when i got there i said the screen cracked months ago and that the home button just recently stopped working and the lady who worked there was like ok we'll replace it. i was in and out in less than 10 minits. thanks to you.

You can just replace the headphone jack, just buy one off of ebay and it should be all good. You can take a light and shine down in there and see if it is really pink
