This movie was one of the first things I ever saw on TV. One scene in particular stood out in my memory for years afterwards:
(The race has just started. The contestants are, in rapid order, being stopped dead in their tracks courtesy of sabotage carried out by Fate's assistant Max. Fate, from his own car, is gleefully watching.)
I did see this movie as a kid and i have search after this music allready as a I discoverd youtube, and now, 3 years later I finally found it! This is the best music in the movie :D Thank you for opploading it!
@iumans Yep, main difference bwtween then and now is... old comedys were, and are funny. The one modern comedy that I found funny was the Simpsons but only on 1st viewing, futher viewings were just boring.
that slinky sax really sets it off... [:)-3 I was 15 years old when I saw the Great Race......I was stunned when I hound out that there was a real great race at the turn of the last century and the German team was very much like professor Fate in that they cheated to the max and the citizens of Paris would not recognize them until the rightful winers [American team] stowed up to claim 1st place!!!! LOL
I saw "The Great Race" when I seven years old. It's still one of my favorite movies. The music by Mancini gave the scenes a special feeling. Thank you for posting.

Greatest race comedy ever made, in spite of Natalie Wood's petulant tantrums behind the scenes.

FATE: "Genius, Max! What's next?"
MAX: "Car number five - the engine falls out!"
FATE: "Max... WE'RE number five."
(Their engine falls out.)
