  • I was lucky enough to work with him on his talk is cheap album as an engineer, he gave me a brief lesson too, hwe told me to "hold a note as long as you can and see how good it starts to sound". Lovely man, very kind and generous. the best days of my career.

  • There are many guitar players more technicals than keef, but how many can bring such feeling with such a simple aproach to the guitar?

  • a fantastic writer...gimme shelter satisfaction midnight rambler :he wrote let it bleed too...a musical genius

  • Is he "Technically" the best? No not even close.

But put it this way, I'd pass up Joe Bonamassa 7 days a week to go and hear Keith and The Stones.

The opening chords to Jumping Jack Flash are Keith Richards in a nutshell. Raw, warm, honest and iconic.

  • keith you ARE the man, you and Angus Young and of course Chuck ,are my favourite guitar men! long live rock n roll!!

  • Keith is a good rhythm guitar player with good inventive skills. That's it.

  • @ptij0404 ..who has written songs that have made him a bazillionaire. Any run of the mill fucknut kid hanging out at a Guitar Center in Buttfuck, Iowa can shred. Let's see them write "Wild Horses" or "Beast of Burden."

  • @ptij0404 You left out one of the greatest guitar players of all time. Oh and a million times better than you ever will be in your wildest wet dreams.

  • He's certainly not a guitar virtuoso but he came up with some of the best riffs in the history of popular music...

  • he's an incredible guitarist, a unique personality in rock history, his creativity and passion make him one of the greatest musicians out there , even if technically he is not as good as others.

  • See I love that Robert Johnson shit. Haha!

  • "you can never be bored with one of these machines..." truly inspiring by a living legend

  • Robert Johnson

  • What's the instruction! Tell he likes Robert Johnson?

  • he's one of the WORST guitar players in the history of the world

  • @bustballz

    don´t troll

  • @bustballz obvious troll is obvious -.-

  • Oh hey this aired back when VH1 was still a music channel.

  • Yeah...Hendrix and Django Reinhardt are better...

  • Woody Guthrie was a Communist

  • Dont forget keith is also a master in the studio.. before the corparations took the stones over the song wasnt cut untill keith smiled!

  • What guitar is in his hands? HEY HELP ME. I want this guitar

  • @InanancuxI Looks like a Collings.... super sweet hand made in Austin, TX

  • @helmsjon fucking thanks man. I love you. It's Collings baby.

  • @InanancuxI More specifically a Collings "12-fret"

  • Keith is not just a guitar player. Good players are easy to find. Being a songwriter, and playing guitar as such is a completely different thing.

  • @JGPorcello Very True.

  • Open G is my favotite

  • I too love that Robert Johnson s**t.

  • I was born in Dartford, England, same town as Mick & Keith.

    They are Dartfords favourite sons.

  • MTV bleeping out Keef swearing. What sacrilege!

  • Gotta love Keith's analogy's.

  • I LOVE HIM

  • This video makes me laugh every time but he pretty much gives you the world in 30 seconds.

  • I love that Robert Johnson shit too (at 90% playing speed :)..)

  • i totally agree :)

the best toy in the world, you just can't get sick of it

picked up to impress chicks, failed, but carried on with punk, then just fell for the blues, just can't get rid of that damn scale!!!

  • Yeah, "I'm Keith Richards, I play guitar with The Stones." Enough said! This guy is the best R&B guitar player ever!!!

  • Hmmm....learned nothing with that silly interview....

  • "Machines" I love the way he and Woody Guthrie call a guitar that....LOL.

  • @Thejbirdy

    IT's got moving parts...it's a machine!

  • @Disburden I believe you! :)

  • @Thejbirdy This Machine Kills Fascists -- a sticker on Woody Guthrie's guitar.

  • @JPTill love that sticker:)

  • @Thejbirdy "This machine kills facists".

  • @misfitstattoo Amen my friend! :::rASPY COUGH:::laugh.

  • @ rollingstopp

I love the stones but wealth is a bad sign in a musician

  • @idwtsasoj Wealth is a bad sign in a musician? What does money have to do with his ability? I'm happy he's got some money.

  • Keith may not be the most technically proficient virtuoso but he sure wrote some great music. You can see all the wannabes immitate him on youtube and at your local open mike night.

  • Keif, is probably the best guitar player ,writer ever--please tell me who has had more success ,brought ,or created a Trillion Dollars of Revenue

  • @rollingstopp So its all about the money eh! The ignorant dumb masses will buy any old piece of shit - that is all the Stones have shown us since Tattoo You. Over 30 yrs of limp garbage from the band - although its not bad as Claptons 42 yrs of crap.

  • @rollingstopp Loads of people have had more success. I love Keef but this is just a really weird comment.

  • @rollingstopp that's 'cos he can pour his soul out thru the guitar

  • Keith has the greatest rhythm feeling of all guitarplayers I can think of. And he wrote at least 20 or 30 classic guitar riffs. Or listen to his beautiful intro's on acoustic guitar: Play with fire, As tears go by, Lady Jane, Angie. Nobody plays guitar like Keith Richards. He is a true legend.

  • Keith knows that you dont get music it gets you!!!! Thats Humble!!!

  • "I'm Keith Richards"...and you're not.

  • Not only is Keith Richards a great guitarist & performer, but he's a brilliant song writer too. & I like the fact that he's gratious enough to pay homage to his great predecessors like Robert Johnson. I'd take lessons from Keith, guitar or whatever..

  • i enjoy better hearing him playing rhythm than lead

  • so simple and true explanation

  • best blues artist of all time...

  • Robert Johnson really know how to inspire guitar player! Just look at Keith and Eric.. Blues and rock.. You don't need much more then that! <3

  • @Bummpis you could go on with the list of guitarist he inspired. It's fair to say he inspired most of the great blues/rock guitarists like Hendrix, Page, Clapton, Richards, Peter Green, Jack White and many others

  • Keith Richards IS The Rock and roll. God bless you Kifffffff, for ALL you gave us

  • keiths the man!

  • Just love when he says "I'm Keith Richards & i play guitar with the Stones"- so much pride in his voice man.

  • @Jagermeister196 I would be proud too! Gotta love that man... he is THE Man! He's pretty f****** great. Like he said... Robert Johnson's great too. LOL

  • *32-20 Blues riff halts abruptly* "See I love that Robert Johnson Sh*BEEP*t, that."

What a perfect note to end on. xD The stupid bit of censorship just /made/ it.

  • @19KeithRichards43 Yes it did! Great stuff if you ask me. Robert Johnson's amazing. What makes him even more amazing is that he inspires Keith Richards!!

  • It's not the drugs , nor even tequnique , it's the perspective . . . . Yar . . uh . ohhhhh . . and the Glory .

  • CAN YOU DANCE THE " CANNIBALIZZER MOONWALK " MMH ?? all the moves are in the video : legris75

  • I HATE hearing people putting down Keith Richards. Is he "technically" the greatest guitar player ever? Well no. But what does that have to do with anything? His feel is amazing and that's something you can't teach somebody. I'd rather hear Elvis strum the intro to "That's All Right Mama" from 1954 than listen to somebody shred. It's a feel thing and you either got it or you don't.

  • @jdmyerscountry ....at last someone who thinks and feels like I do!!!!!.....thank you for those words, I completely agree with every one of them!!!!

  • @jdmyerscountry I agree, feel is everything is music. For example, Elvis wasn't a technically great guitar player, but his guitar playing has a feel that was unique. Elvis' playing on his '68 Comeback Special is something else. Keith Richards is the king of guitar riffs. He is the best ever at coming up with the riffs.

  • @goldenbear1986 HOW ABOUT A TIE WITH JIMMY PAGE FOR RIFFS?

  • @jdmyerscountry Is Keith the best "technically"? Well, the real question is name me another guitar player that has written so many great songs. I can think of maybe two or three. Not many more.

  • @jdmyerscountry True enough. Let's not forget all the great songwriting as well. Loads of guys can play guitar but how many have written a catalog like Keith's?

  • @jdmyerscountry You hit the nail right on the Fucking head Sir.It's behind me tho why people just can't understand that.

  • Comment removed

  • The truth from one of the greatest six / or five stringers left on the planet. ie. "Six this way and 12 the other". If that dosen't sum it all.... I'd love to knock a bottle or two back with Keith and just hash through the roots of it ALL. The book "Life" is great, but as a player there is much more I need to know. It'd be SO cool to get a "new material" solo Keef disc. One can only stay tuned to open G and hope... Love on ya!

  • keef is unique, unlike dime a dozen shredders.

  • @Gonzoidz Shredders don't play music they play notes......

  • Keith IS rock.

  • I only wish mine would stay in tune :(

  • Absolutely priceless...If I know that if somewhere, some how Keef Riffhard is flyin' around the world on a private jet and still gets jazzed about picking up the guitar then, all is right in the world...

  • the king of guitar

  • It all depends on what the individual wants to listen to. This one likes to hear Keith Richards.

  • cool und danke

  • every body see's him as rhythm may be but I see him as lead/rhythm

  • every body see's him as rhtymn may be but I see him as lead/rthythmn

  • @mcsplst why?

  • It would not bother me if he played out of tune all night, not that he does, he brought so much to music not just with guitar but persona. One of the few great guitarists!

  • you can never get bored with one of this machines

  • Keith is a brilliant guitar player-coming up w/all those songs in open tunings (open E,open G) ..His riffs might sound easy but they're catchy & they stick in your head..he's a guitar-master as far as I'm concerned

  • @4runner39 And thats the most important thing about music. not complexity but the mood you get from songs like this

  • As a guitar player what he is saying is totally true. You learn something new every time you pick it up. And even the greats never stop learning. Guitar is something that has an endless learning curve, that's why it is such a great instrument.

  • @JustinMarkBailey yeah it's weird yesterday i picked mine up n started playin something and i was like wtf.

  • Like Alexis Corner says (saw him when I was 15 years old) : Keith is the best and baddest guitarplayer ever! And still it`s right !

  • No need to know lots of chords or to be a virtuose if you play in your bedroom...those guys like Keith or most recently Kurt change the face of the music forever and this is the most important thing, the rest is just blah blah, listen to the music and enjoy..!!

  • NO ONE IS COOLER !

  • funny u said that cuz i woke up yesterday and... u get the idea

  • got to shake hands with him in 03 at wembley.

simple riffs?? yeah, riffs that anyone in the world would identify in 2 seconds, its THAT simple!!!.

    fuckin superb.

    carry on keef.

  • @yz25098uk 2 notes!

  • @yz25098uk I'm with you. A lot of people talk about how simple the riffs are. THAT is why they are so good. His timing....where he lays the licks is just so cool...it's brilliant.

  • Keith is the coolest motherfucker on earth...no doubt

  • thats right it takes minute to learn and lifetime to master that crazy gutiar actually nobody ever masters the gutiar. and keith richards damn well knows what hes talking about he is one of the best ever!

  • if he sucks than why dont some of you haters pick up a guitar, play 4 chords and become a millionaire overnight. Keef did. How bad can he be really? The difference between guys like him and the new shredders is that Keef Invented the style, for the most part, and the other copy. Anyone can play with enough practice you can get as good as you want, if you want it bad enough. Writing is what sets him apart.

  • i will die by these words

  • my darlin keef

  • keith is rock n roll dude

  • Flying AGAIN....around & around the world.

Lucky Devil......somebody sure is watching over him.

  • i love that robert johnson s**t

  • @chaaoos yeah but he got soul man and he plays like a motherfucker with class

  • just shut the fuck up. you're just another retard with a keyboard typing stupid shit that you know isn't true.

  • keith richards guitar instruction???...but who learn to play guitar to richard???....he was a mongol whit the guitar!!!!

  • @dominidiego FUCK YOU AND SHUP UP! YOU ARE THE MONGOL, SUCKER!

  • oh men... I'd never say I don't like jimi hendrix or jimmy page but I'm a big fan of Keith Richards and if you continue to insult him I will come in your country and explose your fucking rat face!

  • buon viaggio allora...ti aspetto

  • @keithrichardstele hey, what do you expect from the spaghettimuncher...italians and modern music...a strange relationship...lets be happy he likes hendrix, page, etc...

but when it comes to eros ramazotti he falls on his knees and starts crying...

  • Yeah you are right... Anyway, we can't do anything against those kind of people...

And I see you're a Joe Perry fan, I like that!

  • Mongolian people are GREAT with the guitar!!!

  • keith richards, jimi hendrix, all the blues legends put together and then add marijuana and a nice instrument --> great sound

  • Funny how people deride Richard's playing, but the last generation of players like Slash and Angus idolize him. Keith has more talent and

ability in his left butt cheek than all the 'shredders'

    put together.

  • @11spike7,

he definitely knows what not to play, thats a great thing about him.

  • @11spike7 Thats a fucking big call saying he has more talent that slash, slash aint no shredder, hes got some of the most soulful shit out.. angus yes , slash no

  • @11spike7 So does BB King.

  • @11spike7 Any shredder can play richards but richards can't touch a pimple on a shredders ass.

  • @cast390 Most shredders couldn't write an infectious song if their lives depended on it. The world's full of shredders and tech heads. Only a few write memorable music, however. Many shredders see music as a competitive sport (most of them are guys) whereas songwriters see it as an art. Two separate skill sets. I'd much rather posses Keith's compositional skills than Yngwie Malmsteen's chops- he'll go to his grave worrying about speed, arpeggios and the metronome but no memorable melodies

  • @ritter89 A good song is subjective. What you my love others will hate.A great technical guitarist or musician is undeniable. To myself and many others Songwriters are a dime a dozen. What makes him or her a great songwriter,Other opinions....,You're gonna tell me the macarena is a good song? Pppff please!

  • learns to play what?

  • sail, as far as rhythm guitar playing, keith is one of the classics in rock, he knows enough that he has tons of hit songs, and there great chords. your being too hard

  • You've heard of him but I doubt whether he's heard of you.

  • When you become a more successful guitarist than Keith, then you can post comments like that

  • @sail1948

i think, no, I KNOW you're a fucking moron, i don't care how old you say you are, you are obviously a nobody-shit who's ready to kick the bucket. no one is knocking on you about how you play, want to know why? because you haven't influenced shit in your life, or have made a record that millions of people can enjoy

  • @rolodexroulette You'e a dumb hero worshipping pathetic twat. Richards is and this is being generous a mediocre musician, a good songwriter but musically ordinary. I've been a session musician for many years and yes while my name isnt universally known I've recorded for many famous names. So get a life you dopey Yankee halfwit.

  • @sail1948 You appear to be a bitter, jelous musician, envious of keith's position. He has played and learned from, gram parsons, ry cooder, brian jones, he must be doin somethin right.

  • @harp1925 Are you really saying Keef plays better than Angus Young?!! Name me one Stones track with a decent riff. Richards has written some fantastic tracks, as a songwriter theres no one any better but as a guitar player he's mediocre. Sadly the Stones live shows sound sloppy and under rehearsed. Their glory days ended when Mick Taylor left and Ron Wood (another mediocre guitarist) joined.

  • @sail1948 I will not tell you who to like better it is all opinion, but in my opinion keith is infinately better than angus. Veratility, Keith and the stones play many styles of music with a heavy, blues influence. ACDC is one dimensional. Beggars Banquet, Let it bleed, Keith dominated albums, put Keith in his own league, go listen and learn!

  • @sail1948 what's the point of writing this point of view on about every stones-thing on youtube? He is obviously wrong is better than angus, but where is the hate coming from? there's nothing wrong with richards, let him think what he wants. and riffs isn't what separates a good guitar player from the bad...

Plus, everyone with the slightest knowledge in guitarplaying knows that ron wood can't play for shit. and who cares about sloppyness and nonrehearsed, they are still fucking awesome

  • @sail1948 sail you need to hear some of the bootlegs from 1972-1981 they rocked as a live band. i mean they were up there with the who and zep as live bands.

  • @sail1948 HAHAHA you idiot

  • @skint0n0minted Go and plait your shit you halfwit.

  • @sail1948 how can he be shit if hes in the greatest rock 'n' roll band of all time you spiv

  • @skint0n0minted Whether or not the Rolling Stones are the greatest rock n roll band of all time is a matter of opinion. What is not a matter of opinion is the fact that Keef is a mediocre guitarist, good songwriter but compared to say Angus Young, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton etc. hardly average. The simple fact is he's a strummer of chords. In short he cant riff.

  • @sail1948 if you say so.....

  • @sail1948 actually both are a matter of opinion fuck face. I mean I don't think Jimmy Page was any good, Clapton was dull in Cream but awsome as a soloist. Keiths come out with some of the best rhythms in music 'Happy' has a sick rhythm and melody. The rhythm in 'You Can't Always Get What You Want' is rad soooo many more, hes amazing, and he destroyed that cliche hardcore druging and drinking will make rockers die young, he is invincible our great great great granchildren will die before him!

  • @skint0n0minted Fuck face?!! Do you find it impossible to have an exchange without resorting to childish insult? One thing we can agree on is that "Keef" has laid down some good rhythm over his career. The point I'm trying to make is that he is not a fantastic guitarist, whatever you think of Page or Clapton they were vastly superior in terms of musical ability. Richards is a fantastic songwriter and an okay rhythm player but thats about it.

  • @sail1948 im not being childish you are bubble brain!

  • @sail1948 'Cocaine Blues' has a sick blues melody and many of his other songs from solo albums and stones records. you had Fall Out Boy on ur favourites yesterday so i dont see why you're throwing a whiner over bands

  • @sail1948 This comment made me laugh so hard! Angus better than Keith, LOL! Any idiot can play ACDC, Jimmy Page, respected but soloist in zep, no guitar interaction, where keith has excelled, Eric Clapton-Hendrix criticized him fot lack of rhythm. Anyone who claims keith is a strummer of chords, go listen to all the stones records, you will be educated. Prodigal son, sympathy for the devil, beast of burden, great guitar work, get real!

  • @sail1948 You attention-seeking little pussy...Envy is an ugly thing.

    Where's your video, girl?

  • So true, Keith. so true. :D

  • not to be disrepectful, but what is that shit hanging out of his hair?

  • LOLOL

  • roach clips

  • Graaande Keith ♥

  • Pretty cool ad, nicely edited.

  • "It's an amazing piece of work (the guitar)... I mean, what is it, up to twelve, six of 'em this way... you can never be bored with one of this machines"

Is there a cooler way to say: "I'm so fucking in love this instrument?" I bet Keef even recites poems to his guitar lol.... Keith's the rock GOD.

  • @Dogo10 LOL dude he said hes slept with his guitar in bed!

  • like somebody doesn't know who he is or what band he plays in. you'd have to be a Martian not to know and even then they have probably got bootleg copies of Sticky Fingers up there!

  • haha true that!!!!!!

  • you'll never die Keith!
