  • iIlluminati will celebrate it.....yeah ...another huge pyramid in London -sorry Babylon + 2012 stadium ...looks like they prepare london for something unusual and massive i hope everyone will enjoy it :)

  • can you shart there?!

  • its one canada square not canary warf idiot!

  • Say what you will, plans should of been trashed !

  • Mixing the older buildings with these new ones show a growing history of London. The views of the Shard through the Tower of London is just incredible from the north side of the Thames.

  • Tallest in the EU? Those idiots in Brussels won't stand for this. I wouldn't be surprised if they demanded it to be shorter

  • @TalonMercenary I know screw them its the tallest building in Britain end of i hate it when they have to mention the EU in all of this they should keep there noses out of our affairs.

  • @BRIYONCE1

If you look at downtown Manhattan the streets do not have a grid, the grid system was later adopted in the 19th century. also that is where are most densely packed skyscrapers are.

I for one do believe that New York City has a very great history, i mean more than 400 years worth.

  • People like that historian (or whatever) are just stupid, if people like him had existed and won say while St Pauls was being planned and built, we wouldn't have it today. Conserving the skyline is complete trash, because if it is always conserved, London would still be an unhealthy sprawl of cottages. Having said that, it doesn't mean any large building should be allowed automatically, some common sense and moderate consideration is needed.

  • To be honest i think it looks pretty ugly.. London isnt a city for big sckyscrapers just like any other European city! if you want skyscrapers go to America, Australia or Canada!

  • @cam9408 London is larger than NY. . Go look at wikiipedia.

  • @English0pium what are you on about? hows does London is larger then NY have anything to do with my comment??

  • It's kind of funny that in Manhattan apartment buildings are that tall, it's seriously a typical building!!!

    I should know I live there :P

But it's Marvelous to see buildings more than 500 feet build up and stack close to each other like nothing.

    Midtown reminds me of coruscant

  • @zsdg34 Manhattan has many skyscrapers but doesn`t have the history of London. That is the issue. It is a big for London. The concern is we will start masking a beautiful organic labyrinth of historical streets {not a grids of streets} with steel and glass to look like many other cities in the world. The fact that America has tall building doesn`t aid the debate.

  • I like Victorian and Edwardian buildings

  • Old buildings, narrow streets...

Bring on the bulldozers and bring London into the 21st century!

  • @kynismos Then London would be indistinguishable from 1000 other new cities all over the world. It's unique narrow streets and old building are why millions of tourists come.

  • Sexy gay...

  • is that 'culture editor' gay?!

  • And then it get's terrorist attacked, just like the world trade center.

  • @ismaeel619 Alright, that was ten years ago, it's not stuff like that happens on a daily basis. Not to mention, the Shard is mostly residential apartments, a hotel and a restaurant. What would anyone gain from that? And, just to point out, Al-Qaeda has taken some pretty huge hits since 2001, so any attempted attacks probably wouldn't be quite so effective as 9/11.

  • I'm sorry, but to those who believes that modern architecture is better than that of the 60-90s, frankly, you're all idiots.

  • and that man at the end of the vid looks like he agrees with me!!!! HAHAHAHAHA

  • It's a great look building but the host is just UM WOW I dont know whether its the British accent or is it that he is REALLY GAY!!

  • @sexeman76 We all talk like that in Britain

  • Comment removed

  • @CrystalResonator LOL. you sound so stressed. You will give yourself a heart attack getting so excited of non important things. You have a nice day.

  • that guy starting from 00:56 ... HOW GAY?!?!

  • my mum doesnt like it. it looks ugly

  • why do we have this camp arsehole narrating....?

  • amazing building. i think its about the time when, London shows the world that we can also build skyscrapers. i think this building will give some shekihs ( in middle east) a bloody nose lol :)

  • The Italians are masters of innovative beautiful designs, Piano's Shard will be the tallest skyscraper in London as well as the EU & the Bishopsgate Skyscraper in London will be the second tallest aka the Helter-Skelter or Spiral tower.

  • Ooooo, sharrrdddd!!!! Thops and rethtauranth... Fabbb!

  • What a load of shite: ''Designed to reflect London's history''.

  • @thisherecat2 The glass will reflect all the old buildings around it? Reflecting 'history'? Maybe thats looking too far into it xD

  • London is Europe's most modern and advanced city. Yep. Don't care what you say.

  • i'm getting tired of 2012 now, that date is too over rated now

  • Hey! Jungles of buildings can be beautiful too! Part of what makes NY special is how you get lost in the cityscape! Anyway.. Congrats London, the shard will be very impressive because of the way it gets smaller at the top (giving the illusion of it being taller). Quick question.. Will it be a "green" building?

  • More than how it looks I love it's position: there are loads of really impressive lines of sight from the ground on both sides of the river. Best of all on the walk from Tower Bridge/ Scoop via More London. Also some really cool views from really unexpected places in the City. It also really picks out Southwark Cathedral when viewed from the west; whereas previously it just blended into the background. It will look really good when it's finished especially once the hospital has been clad.

  • gay man on the building site

gay man on the building site

    (air raid siren)

  • @Zero7evenX ha ah aha ha ha ha ha LOL

  • Take that gay smirk off your face, it looks like a slapped ass, and go and live in the moors

Bring on more buildings like this in london

    Love it

  • matthew cain is gay...least he sure seems.

  • watch out for the coming base jumpers.

  • Its not just an obsession with building higher, its a crucial feature for developing our cities.

Land is rarely available in london and is not cheap, therefore we must build up instead of across.

Unless you want to expand the city into the countryside.

  • i think its amazing and what a view of London it would be! but i do agree with having loads of tall buildings around would spoil the skyline.

  • Moscow, Russia - that ain't europe you dumb ass news reporter

  • @uczciw22

    what?

  • @uczciw22 Moscow but Russia isn't in the European union even though the far east of Russia is in Europe.

You'd be surprised even a tiny corner od Kazakhstan is in Europe

  • It's not the largest building in Britain its the largest in Europe. England FTW!

  • Buildings like this dont ruine the skyline they improve it. It's the ugly 60s and 70s concrete blocks that do!!

  • I can see this from my house looks so good at night

  • 2:20 He is such a gay idiot if u hate live somewhere else!!!

  • Guys hospital next to it already it second rate. Such a disgusting block of concrete

  • @hot4belgians Good news! Guys hospital will be cleaned to look better!

  • 2:06 Borng old fart, if he loves old buildings so much why doesnt he live in a place like venice where buildings wont be developing! This is great for London and we need more buildings like this!

  • 2:05 Change in this way is good as it shows that the U.K. isn't frozen in time.

  • I like it

  • @dburford9 we have alot of good ones going up :) pinnacle and leadinhall! oh and the walkie talking in the center of london.

  • his voice annoys me

  • its not called canary wharf, one canada square mate...

  • @T4terrible lol, "one canada square mate" - spoken like a true Londoner, init!

  • @T4terrible Um, excuse me, but you must realize that a lot of people call it canary wharf. Therefore the building is called canary wharf. Not officially, maybe, but as more people understand Canary Wharf to mean the building and might not know what you mean by one Canada square, I suggest you accept both names for it?

  • That man 'Ptolemy Dean' who says its too big and London is losing identity is just plain silly. If there were people like him in history who had their way, there would be no Tower Bridge; St Paul's Cathedral; Nelsons Column - etc etc. Its a wonderful looking building and will boost tourism, so it will be good for the economy too.

  • What a beauty.

  • What a monstrosity ! its ugly and ruins the skyline of London !

  • @mike81041 exactly, how can it possibly match the beauty of the London Bridge area! /sarcasm

  • What a fantastic building--must get to London when its finished!!

  • 'britains previous tallest building, canary wharf'. suck it man, it's called one canada square.

  • Well done Boris!

  • I'm sure this is will be a great success and we will have the tallest building in the EU!

  • Good on London...we're no longer in the 1960's!!! London's too ancient and needs to start to look modern. Old folk are dying daily and being phased out and so should the old 20th century buildings!!!

  • @MrKopiteR So using your logic, we should rip down Tower Bridge, The Tower of London, The Houses of Parliament, St Paul's Cathedral & Westminster Abbey.

  • @MrKopiteR Your attitude to old building is disgusting. Let knock down all old building heritage. London was built over 1000s years ago.

  • these tall buildings go up so quick! Think this would have looked better at canary though, seems out of place.

  • Comment removed

  • i hope we get loads more higher buildings, london is over populated

  • I love the shard! Impeccable cladding

  • It's an irresistible beauty and I love it, (but I hope we don't get any more).

  • I love this building, those who say it doesn't suit London are wrong, London has always had a love affair with spires, this is just a modern example and London is a Modern city.

Can't wait to be standing on the observation deck, stunning views of London.

  • @G1NZOU i think this and the pinnacle look astonishing, but the pinnacle has gone to slowly

  • @boltjet135 Have no fear, since the snows gone they can get on with the steelwork, seeing as the spire is all steel with no core for the last few metres so they need to wait for the rest of the floors to catch up.

It'll be done in no time, then all they need to do is do the inside fittings and other stuff.
