Now that was a great story. And that's what matters most in Sci Fi, the story. Remember the days when science fiction was more than "let's spend a hundred zillion dollars on special effects for something that was already made 20 years a go but we're incapable of forming an original thought and don't care about the integrity of the franchise or the subject matter in the first place"? Yeah, those were the days. When the story mattered more than the explosions.
Thank you to the cast and crew for making a fanfilm dream come true and to sticking to the star trek universe.. thank you Gene for lying to NBC way back in the day to fill my evenings with your vision. :) Peace and long life to all.
I'm so glad they did this. I bet paramount is kicking themselves in the foot - who needs a 150 million dollar budget? True Trekkers would do it for free.
With all of the criticisms, I think that was well made with a good storyline. I especially appreciate Chekov showing how abrasive he can be when pushed to the limit and how Captain Harriman really redeemed himself. He's a far cry from the young goofball he was on Enterprise-B. Inspite of the limited budget in the Special FX department, this is a good cut above JJ Abrams' travesty.
Thoroughly enjoyed that, and for those that slagged it off think of it this way. The budget was 125k, presuming that is in US dollers, they got all those top actors from various Star Trek families to star in this movie for ( in our money UK pounds) about 60k. That won;t even buy you a garage in the UK!!!! WELL DONE!!!
The look on Chekov's face when he sees the Tribble is epic, and the famous line that he gets at the near-end is what I am thinking at the moment. To add to that, there are the out-takes, which always make me laugh XD
This was a fun ride with the TOS crew and made in the same spirit as the series. I have watched other phase 2 productions and thier worth the time to watch as well.

Hey... wait a sec. Why did Charlie send out a distress call in the first place? Why did he need Uhura, Harriman, and Chekhov to go through the Guardian? HE DIDN'T. *confused*
Great battle scenes... impressive effects. I like the progressive damage during phaser strikes and multiple attack scenes. Cool stuff. Acting is much better in this one than the earlier ones I've seen from these guys. Nice the way they worked in so many guest stars from TOS.
I see a bright future for the makers of this...Bravo
This was so enjoyable. I wish this would be aired on tv as a sci-fi movie special. This would make up for that J.J Abrams travesty of a movie. Another cool factor in this movie is that Captain Harriman seemed like such an awkward greenhorn in Star Trek Generations. Here, we see a much more mature, mentally stronger Harriman.

Thanks for sharing your interpretation of what I said with the world. Now, please do explain what a low budget has to do with script-writing. Right. Exactly nothing. So, your comparison is flawed. I have never said that the entire movie is lame. In fact, I did enjoy the movie. I just said that the line "Get used to it, baby" was lame - nothing more, nothing less. Now do ME a favor and "go away" before you bore someone else with flawed interpretations. Kisses! <3
@DocWyoming you were surprised? I wasn't. She had to deal with Spock for however long and when she did not get him she just went and snagged herself another Vulcan. lol! If Spock found her endearing whose to say another Vulcan would not? lol
@CrazyGood88 I can see a vulcan loving her, but I never figured she'd be happy with someone who wasn't more expressive with their emotions... then again, the new movie made it clear that Uhura-Spock/Vulcan works....
@DocWyoming I agree. the older show though they did not emphasize it, did show that something was there. like when she sang while he played the lyre and other such things. I know. I did not catch teh earlier shows but when I saw the movie and his responses to her, I was like whaaaa-? lol
@DocWyoming Vulcans have 'emotions' but is considered 'vulgar' to display them outright UNLESS There is a LOGICAL REASON to do so..This is where so many folks get it messed up---EMOTIONS are IMPORTANT but the overuse of EMOTIONS and or the LACK OF SHOWING EMOTIONS both lead to disaster to the person using or not displaying them and those around that person.
@DocWyoming all I was stating ref your statement .The 'creators' of Star Trek' knew all intelligent beings have emotion & as such decided to use the concept of "vulcans" as being able to "control their emotions" rather than overly display such behavior---but agee with you as the "character Uhrua" was always around Spock & other 'Vulcans' she was more then comforable around them...was impressed with this "show" interesting idea, though one should not think to deep or the plot actors are cool!
I think the only thing that let this down was the camera work, which is good for amateur work and all but does make it more forefront in your mind that this isn't an official thing. But still, they did pretty good.
They all did, great adventure! Good to see so many familiar faces again even if they weren't all in familiar ways.
Well how bout that!!! That was way too frikin COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I thought Star Trek was dead! The whole thing was dam heller amazing!! Was this before or after Abrhams disrespect? Okay, okay, abrams did a pretty good job with Bones and Chekov, and Kirk too considering he had a bad childhood, and yes he made an entertainin flick, but that shit fukt up Spock big time, and fukt Uhura too. I wonder which was 1st though, anyhow: THIS WAS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I always wanted to see Harriman as more than the nervous rookie captain in Kirk's shadow. Never thought I'd get a chance. Epic fan film!!! Go Captain Harriman!!!
I'm so happy to see many of the Trek cast back together one more time and see that Chekov finally got promoted. I'm very happy that Crawley made this all possible!!!
Wrong reasoning as to when to enter the time portal. If charlie goes back to kill kirk's mom before kirk is born, there would be no vendetta to go after kirk. Charlie would have had to to back to the point BEFORE he originally killed Kirk's mom.
FUCKING BRILIANT! It didn't follow the lore 100%, but so what? Lore was a TNG villain anyway lol.
Just seeing all these people from different branches of the ST Universe makes up for any continuity flaws. The fact that they got were able to get so many actors from the Original Series made it special. I wish I could get this on DVD.
I wish they showed what happened to Tuvok but the should make more Vulcan directed films. Like 2, 3 and this one. Overall great fun but I was confused during the space battles with the Klingon Bird of prey.
This fan film was great fun, although, I was quite confused during the space battles- aside from the conqueror & the gary's flagship- who was gunning for whom. It seems the Klingon's were Galactic Order, but then it seemed Klingon ships were rebels and Romulans, uh, who the heck were they fighting for? No Roms on the conqueror crew, unless helmsman(spock?) was a Romulan? It was fun despite my quibbles notwithstanding.
LOL! Love the look of disaproving shock on the Vulcan woman behind them as Uhura kissed Stonn.
This movie is pretty good actually to say it was not "professionally" done. Special effects are top notch and it was very nice to see a few of the old cast still going strong in the Star trek universe.
Wait, so Uhura married Stonn? OMG MINDFUCK. What the hell happened to T'Pring?! Was Spock right about the wanting/having thing?
Gah, so many things I loved about this movie. RAND! And the TRIBBLE. I'll never watch Charlie X the same way again. That little bastard annoyed me in TOS, but now that's changed. And aww, Uhura's singing to him nearly broke my heart.
So nice to see some of the original series characters back in action again. Of Gods and Men was really geared toward the Star Trek fans and made good use of the 40+ years of material that came before it -- unlike that thing JJ Abrams produced.
that "thing" that JJ Abrams produced was an awesome tribute to the original show and was a highly entertaining film with one of the best villians in a movie that I've seen in a long time.
@CraZY359 To each his own, but I don't see how any faithful Star Trek fan would prefer Abrams' abomination to what came before it. Berman was involved in much more than Enterprise, and has a better understanding of and respect for the Star Trek universe. Abrams' portrayals of the original characters was horrible, particularly Spock.
@CraZY359 hey Rick Bearmen did alright in the franchise ok but yea star trek enteprise meh i got to admit was not good but bearmen and the USS Enteprise i think u should not bash
WORD ! Abrams hosed the whole saga! What chowder-head gave that clown the green light to completely skew the entire concept of Star Trek! There are certain tenants you don't touch!
And yes it was an absolute pleasure to see the original and more recent cast members, including the "Cawley Clatch" , who was favored by a couple of original cast members in the Phase Two episodes - which I am anxious to see more of - if no nothing more than to bury Abrams' absurd legacy on the franchise.
@AOEfilms actually it was hosed by Rick Berman, how many more horrible Next Generation movies and TV series like Enterprise and Voyager did you need to see before you said enough was enough? Yes, please give me more fabulous episodes like "A Night in Sickbay".....
WORD ! Abrams hosed the whole saga! What chowder-head gave that clown the green light to completely skew the entire concept of Star Trek! There are certain tenants you don't touch!

Please do another one. That being said, I had two thoughts. Think about the fact that Uhura and Checkov got to see what their lives would have been like if they had families. No one is suprised that these folks did a first rate job. There is only one minor detail that I can think of that was missed. Gary needed to say something about having killed Elizabeth Dehner. Other than that, this is one of the best St episode made! Bravo and Bravo! CounselorPhoenix, take a chill pill.
Well, I find it not a very convincing coincidence the newest Star Trek film has so many facts the same as in of Gods and Men. The destruction of Vulcan, an alternate time-line etc etc. I hated the newest movie, and despite of Gods and Men looks cheaper and has poor effects etc.... I think it is a better Star Trek film then Star Trek XI. At least in this film, the philosophy and ideals of Gene Roddenberry do not get (excus the word) raped.those are what made Star Trek such a fantastic franchise.
Having seen the actual Star Trek movie, I love Of Gods and Men all the more. This one stays true to the spirit of Trek. Let the kids have their ten zillion explosions per second with not enough character-driven story and interaction. Despite the "oh, we'll totally ignore the slave girl dying a slow agonizing death until she's dead" part, there's a lot more caring, human interactions in this tale than the bigscreen.
"Let the kids have their ten zillion explosions per second with not enough character-driven story and interaction."
Keep in mind since most of the fanbase enjoyed this film, are you saying something about the fanbase as well? Let me pull up a chair and here this. I'm sure those fans from the 1960s are these "kids that want their 10 million explosions" too?
You haters have little logic to anything you say about this movie.
Only a geek without logic or knowlege of the real star trek would like Abrams movie. It single handedly has killed the entire concept. If you represent the "fan base" then I'm glad to call myself far apart from it.
How has it killeed the entire concept, yes i know some of the parts weren't very eveolved or merciful, but this is Kirk we're talking about, if Picard had the choice of saving Nero or letting him die i think he would have done ANYTHING to save him, but Kirk has always liked killing abd guys, the Seach for Spock for example.
TOS Kirk would never have done something like that. Nor would he have had such a triumphalist attitude about it. He would have felt a complex mixture of regret, relief, confusion at having killed others. And wouldn't his teachers back at Starfleet Academy have something to say to him about shooting at a doomed vessel full of living beings?
. . . . Anyway, all that just to say, THIS movie really gets to the *core*. Thank you to those who made it, and those who posted it!
In TOS, Kirk was always extending the hand of friendship to those who had been fighting against him and the Federation. For all his machismo, he really was a man of peace and a true reconciler. But Abram's Kirk used compassion as a deceptive strategy--as he rapidly explained to his young friend Spock in one of the final scenes of the recent movie. Then Abram's Kirk went even one step further, needlessly firing on a disabled enemy who was about to be swallowed up in a black hole. . . .
This was both amazing and beautiful. Most of all,it really shows up THE biggest and deepest mistake made by JJ on his new film: Aside from questions of techno and story line, there are underlying issues of moral and cultural values that were major casualties to Abrams' blast-fest. By showing us a universe without him, this terrific fan film emphasized the most important aspects of James T. Kirk's character: his humanity, his compassion, his capacity to turn the other cheek. . . . .
PMSL! You are obviously a newbie and have no concept of what Star Trek was ever about! Go back to kindergarten and leave the conversations to the adults.
Yeah right. Blowing up vulcan is "entirely faithful" to TOS. You really need to get your head out of your ass junior. You probably think that TNG is the original series. Pathetic. The only idiot around here is you and you prove it everytime you respond. Do yourself a favor and quit while you are behind!
Uh Yeah. Which is why I said that ths is where Abrams must've gotten the idea. This was around before the new so-called movie. BTW, I still think the new movie sucks.
It wouldn't have been Abrams since O & K wrote the script. Besides, their script was written and greenlit as early as late 2006, and possible small revisions through summer 2007.
This was released in December 2007 when they were already filming the new movie. Hmm, doubtful the writers went to the future to get an idea from this fanfilm.
The "writing" on Abrams film was half-assed, hurried and no doubt was taken from this. This is a fan film based on a novel written during the late 1980's. Your lack of logic (and more importantly, knowledge) is indeed astounding. . Try getting your facts straight before you try to be "clever" next time. Oh, and it's best to know who and what you're dealing with as well.
Exactly. Or why would the novel be discussing Captain Kirk's death on the Enterprise-B? Just did some research and nothing indicates it's from a novel. It just says it was written by two DS9 writers.
"entirely faithful to TOS??" In what way? The technology of the bridge appeared to NOT preset that of TOS, it looked like it surpassed the "Nemesis" movies technology; Spock's mother was killed in the movie - we all know Amanda appeared in numerous TOS episodes and films. And the biggest fuck up that Abrams did with this movie - a minor detail that only DIEHARD TOS fans know - KIRK HAD A BROTHER that grew up with him in Iowa. In Abrams' version, there was no mention of a Kirk brother.
Abrams just wanted to make her, the enterprise, more suitable for the audiences of today. nero wasn't supposed to come back in time but he did and as a result spock's mother died. the next film will fix all of that. and fyi, they show kirk's brother in the movie...in the begining. right before he drives the car over the cliff!!!
"Abrams just wanted to make her, the enterprise, more sutiable for the audiences of today.." what's wrong with the TOS Enterprise? How can new audiences hope to appreciate TOS if they've never seen what she was like? For newbiew to Trek, Abrams has left a lasting impression - Trek is about lasers, blowing up stuff, no morals, and reality TV camerawork.
If ANY newbie were to sit down and watch TOS, TNG, DS9, or Voyager after seeing Abrams' movie, they would call them lame cuz they don't have the "typical movie format of the times." Creators today seem hell bent on the idea that every movie that comes out that is Sci-Fi HAS TO BE a action packed picnic with Arnold Scwarz. The original 10 films were not solely action - they were more adventure, all often containing an underlying moral of the story.
Actually, he did have a brother in the new timeline as the brother was older. Not sure where people are getting he didn't have a brother when in fact there was a scene filmed, but cut, with his brother.. and the fact it was never mentioned he didn't have a brother.
It does stay entirely faithful to the TOS and infact the whole series by rebooting it using a long established concept in Star Trek Lore: I guess your one of the people who would of prefferred another of "Star Trek: The Motion(less) Picture?
i must say.
For a fan film this is quite an epic piece.
If Paramount ever should need future film ideas.
They should look no further than this film piece.

This was well done...good story. Getting the actors added credibility to the show. Its amazing what can be done.

I LOVES IT!!!

Mogh 2 years ago 11
that "thing" that JJ Abrams produced was an awesome tribute to the original show and was a highly entertaining film with one of the best villians in a movie that I've seen in a long time.

@Mogh But JJ Abrams did a good job fixing Star trek then what Rick berman did, Rick destroyed Star trek with Star Trek: Enterprise
CraZY359 1 year ago
@CraZY359 To each his own, but I don't see how any faithful Star Trek fan would prefer Abrams' abomination to what came before it. Berman was involved in much more than Enterprise, and has a better understanding of and respect for the Star Trek universe. Abrams' portrayals of the original characters was horrible, particularly Spock.

Despite the "oh, we'll totally ignore the slave girl dying a slow agonizing death until she's dead" part, there's a lot more caring, human interactions in this tale than the bigscreen.
auronlu 2 years ago
"Let the kids have their ten zillion explosions per second with not enough character-driven story and interaction."
Keep in mind since most of the fanbase enjoyed this film, are you saying something about the fanbase as well? Let me pull up a chair and here this. I'm sure those fans from the 1960s are these "kids that want their 10 million explosions" too?
You haters have little logic to anything you say about this movie.

Then Abram's Kirk went even one step further, needlessly firing on a disabled enemy who was about to be swallowed up in a black hole. . . .
lsfein 2 years ago
This was both amazing and beautiful. Most of all,it really shows up THE biggest and deepest mistake made by JJ on his new film: Aside from questions of techno and story line, there are underlying issues of moral and cultural values that were major casualties to Abrams' blast-fest. By showing us a universe without him, this terrific fan film emphasized the most important aspects of James T. Kirk's character: his humanity, his compassion, his capacity to turn the other cheek. . . . .

Yeah right. Blowing up vulcan is "entirely faithful" to TOS. You really need to get your head out of your ass junior. You probably think that TNG is the original series. Pathetic. The only idiot around here is you and you prove it everytime you respond. Do yourself a favor and quit while you are behind!
Salesmistake 2 years ago

CristinaFernandez 2 years ago
Uh Yeah. Which is why I said that ths is where Abrams must've gotten the idea. This was around before the new so-called movie. BTW, I still think the new movie sucks.
Salesmistake 2 years ago
It wouldn't have been Abrams since O & K wrote the script. Besides, their script was written and greenlit as early as late 2006, and possible small revisions through summer 2007.
This was released in December 2007 when they were already filming the new movie. Hmm, doubtful the writers went to the future to get an idea from this fanfilm.
Love your logic!
Zenutheduck 2 years ago
The "writing" on Abrams film was half-assed, hurried and no doubt was taken from this. This is a fan film based on a novel written during the late 1980's. Your lack of logic (and more importantly, knowledge) is indeed astounding. . Try getting your facts straight before you try to be "clever" next time. Oh, and it's best to know who and what you're dealing with as well.
Salesmistake 2 years ago
"The "writing" on Abrams film was half-assed, hurried and no doubt was taken from this."
Yes, and we didn't really land on the moon.
"This is a fan film based on a novel written during the late 1980's"
Hmmm. I'd like the ISBN Number on this novel please.
Zenutheduck 2 years ago
If it's from the 80's how did they know the name of Capt. harriman, or was he featured before Generations?
KlingongBane 2 years ago
Exactly. Or why would the novel be discussing Captain Kirk's death on the Enterprise-B? Just did some research and nothing indicates it's from a novel. It just says it was written by two DS9 writers.
That's why I asked the guy for the ISBN Number.
Zenutheduck 2 years ago
Nothing gets past us ;)
KlingongBane 2 years ago
"entirely faithful to TOS??" In what way? The technology of the bridge appeared to NOT preset that of TOS, it looked like it surpassed the "Nemesis" movies technology; Spock's mother was killed in the movie - we all know Amanda appeared in numerous TOS episodes and films. And the biggest fuck up that Abrams did with this movie - a minor detail that only DIEHARD TOS fans know - KIRK HAD A BROTHER that grew up with him in Iowa. In Abrams' version, there was no mention of a Kirk brother.
sixstanger00 2 years ago
Abrams just wanted to make her, the enterprise, more suitable for the audiences of today. nero wasn't supposed to come back in time but he did and as a result spock's mother died. the next film will fix all of that. and fyi, they show kirk's brother in the movie...in the begining. right before he drives the car over the cliff!!!
IngenFiles 2 years ago
"Abrams just wanted to make her, the enterprise, more sutiable for the audiences of today.." what's wrong with the TOS Enterprise? How can new audiences hope to appreciate TOS if they've never seen what she was like? For newbiew to Trek, Abrams has left a lasting impression - Trek is about lasers, blowing up stuff, no morals, and reality TV camerawork.
sixstanger00 2 years ago 3
If ANY newbie were to sit down and watch TOS, TNG, DS9, or Voyager after seeing Abrams' movie, they would call them lame cuz they don't have the "typical movie format of the times." Creators today seem hell bent on the idea that every movie that comes out that is Sci-Fi HAS TO BE a action packed picnic with Arnold Scwarz. The original 10 films were not solely action - they were more adventure, all often containing an underlying moral of the story.
sixstanger00 2 years ago
OF course he didn't have a fucking brother in this film, the whole timeline was changed by Nero.
KlingongBane 2 years ago
Actually, he did have a brother in the new timeline as the brother was older. Not sure where people are getting he didn't have a brother when in fact there was a scene filmed, but cut, with his brother.. and the fact it was never mentioned he didn't have a brother.
Zenutheduck 2 years ago
It does stay entirely faithful to the TOS and infact the whole series by rebooting it using a long established concept in Star Trek Lore: I guess your one of the people who would of prefferred another of "Star Trek: The Motion(less) Picture?
