What the heck is Zeratul doing in a Zerg Hive with a High Templar, was it so hard to Blizzard to place a Protoss briefing background even if it was meant to be a mission in the zerg campaign???
I never saw this level before playing SC2 so I was pissed off at the aspect of a big bag being shoe-horned in. Bu after seeing this I changed my view completely. So long as they continue from this, as in Duran being back.
Thank you so much for this video. I remember this mission, however as I am currently reading twilight (book 3 of 3 of the dark templar saga), Zertaul makes a reference to this mission and Samir Duran. My memory was so foggy and here it was for viewing.
It's mentioned in 3rd book that Xel Naga were not immortal and couldnt reproduce, thus they created/helped 2 races of 2 differend essences to merge later if im not mistaken; and Samir says that this event is completing a cycle (the cycle of Xel Naga, i presume).
i know how to unlock this mission By completing Zerg Mission 9 (The Reckoning) with 5 minutes or more left on the timer, this secret mission is unlocked.
@Elquelosabetodo95 it just seems like he picked that up from Raynor or someone, coz "Damn!" doesn't sound like a formal word used by the Protoss, haha
@Gislijohann moons dont have to be barren. There are moon's in our solar system that are more capable of supporting life than the planet they orbit. :)
Now here's a thought: Duran is an Agent of the Xel'Naga, seeking to bring about the rise of the hybrid. The Xel'Naga created the Zerg and Protoss possessing Purities of Essence and Form, respectively. The cosmic cycle, I think, is the reunion of these two species into the 'New' Xel'Naga. Duran explicitly says that the universe will be 'changed'... perhaps wishing for the cycle to go on, while the Dark Voice seems to want to break the cycle, bringing the galaxy under his eternal domination.
WHAT????? I am so confused what exactly is happening? The terrans are making hybrids? and duran is not under the control of kerrigen? can someone explain?
This is only speculation on my part- but I believe that Kerrigan needs to survive because she is the controlling force behind the Zerg. While the Hybrids are powerful, they are nowhere near as numerous as the Swarm. If she were to die and the Swarm leaderless, then the Dark Voice would enslave and subsume the Zerg into its army.
OVERWHELMING numbers, and the unspeakable power of the Hybrids, with an entity as evil and as powerful as the Dark Voice? That is one hellova recipe for destruction.
@overwhelming12 I don't think that you're right, While I believe that Duran is involved he is not possible to be a Xel'naga, he works for them, same as was Kerrigen to the overmind, the fallen one is the Xel'naga, and probably used Duran to get to the terrans to help him creating the Hybrids, and personally I think that the Confederacy are the ones who started this, and it's possible that Mangsk wanted to take over because he knew about this project somehow, and is now finishing it.
When it all is said and done it's going to be like this:

@FalenXangel He is with Zamara, but thing is, Ulrezaj serves the freaking Dark Voice. You think that a handicap like that is going to stop the Fallen Xel'Naga from releasing him? I think he will return since he is still a huge threat and much of his character is still a mystery.
@duskcrawler you make a good point about that... I also think the Dark Voice is a fallen Xel'Naga... maybe something along the lines of corruption or exile... who knows
@FalenXangel I think he is rogue and Duran must be as well. We all know that the Dark Voice possesses pawns of each race as well as the Xel'Naga. Mengsk=Terran, Kaloth=Zerg, Ulrezaj=Protoss, and Duran=Xel'Naga. I also believe that the Xel'Naga will die and reincarnate as proper Hybrids and I also believe that the Gestalts will appear.
@FalenXangel I'm kinda hoping that, since its been suggested that Ulrezaj and Kaloth are associated with the Dark Voice. Ulrezaj created Hybrids and Kaloth created the New Swarm to combat and kill Kerrigan. That points to servitude to the Fallen Xel'Naga. But yeah you're right, though, Duran and Kerrigan will play a huge part in the future of SC. As for the Gestalts, its more than likely that they cloned Zero to continue the project, even though the Protoss shut that project down.
@duskcrawler yeah... as we know it, anything is possible right now, it's just stupid how they had to split up SC2 into 3 separate games... it's just an excuse to keep people hooked and to get more money
@FalenXangel There are advantages and disadvantages to it. Having three games separate means more gameplay and story as well as possibly seeing new races appear in each game. Disadvantages is thats its mostly for money and to make people get hooked onto it by sitting them out. Seriously, 12 years is a bit much, but at least 18 months to make the next game is a bit more understandable.
@duskcrawler that's true... just, I'm bitter over the fact that it took them 12 years to make SC2, and then they decide to tell us they're going to split it up into 3 games...
@FalenXangel I know where you're coming from. I played SC when I was lot younger and things were amazing. Granted, I shouldn't have played it at a young age, but it was still amazing. Playing through it, again, it seems even better now than back then. Its memories like that when SC was just mindblowing. SC2 I was hoping wouldn't take this damn long. Heck, there's not even a guarantee that the 18 months thing is going to work, either.
@duskcrawler yeah, my situation is the same, I played it when I was young (my parents allowed it =P) and it was just incredible, the best thing I've played and no, SC2 does not disappoint, but the wait time for it is just really annoying and disappointing considering Blizzard is such a big company who has had many years of experience with RTS games. I hope they don't take too too long to finally come out with the Protoss campaign for SC2 (name escapes me), I really want to play that!
@FalenXangel Don't worry, 18 months away from the Zerg campaign in 2013 will be when Legacy of the Void will be released. But, yeah, SC2 was fun, I'll give Blizzard a thumbs up for that one, though. but it didn't have the same charm SC1 had and some of the characters like Tosh were just....weird. Not only that, but Zeratul and Artanis sound really funny to my ears. I'm always used to listening to Zeratul with a deep voice, grouchy voice.
@duskcrawler sadly... Zeratul is no longer a grouch... I miss Artanis' voice... he sounded funny =D still, SC2 is good, even if the effect wasn't as powerful as SC1, it is good. Let's just hope Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void deliver a similar or better effect.
@FalenXangel There was a bit of an impact at the end. It was something we had all been waiting for: the fate of Kerrigan. To be honest, I wasn't disappointed like most were, but, it was still anticlimatic, though. Reason why I wasn't disappointed was because her deinfestation has potential. I've always wanted to see her return as a Ghost and to control the Zerg as well. I've always wondered that. But, I've also wondered who'd win in a drinking fight? Raynor or Stukov?
@duskcrawler Yeah, I wasn't expecting something like that... I was expecting her to "change" but not like this, not that I dislike the change. I think... she will return as a ghost (probs as part of Raynor's Raiders) and somehow also control the zerg... I think Raynor would win in a drinking fight... he's got the guns for it
@FalenXangel Its cool besides I'm sure all the Terran fans will want to smack her ass as she's controlling the Zerg assuming Jim doesn't touch it, but even then fans will still want that. Heck, I know some people that are head over heels for Nova. Some even want her to get infested. Now, thats a bit rehashed in my opinion, but it'd still be ironic, but I don't see it happening, at least not yet. I have to agree with you on the drinking game part. Jim would win, he's got a beer belly for that one
@duskcrawler he's a Marine, Stukov's a Ghost, huge diff there already... But yeah... I think Kerrigan's gonna be Raynor's, they did already have something going, sides... if anyone's gonna tap that ass, it's defs gonna be a protoss, they'll just mind fuck the hell outta her
@FalenXangel Yeah, Stukov's old, too, compared to Raynor, so I'll give that one to Raynor, though still, I really want to see a cutscene of that. I swear I'd be laughing my ass off if Blizzard decided to do that. I just don't know what drinking game they'd be playing. As for Kerrigan, seeing as how Raynor is a tough guy, I don't think any Protoss would have the gull to mess with her and from what I've seen, the Protoss aren't very sexual or else Zeratul would have been all over Raszagal.
@duskcrawler lol... I think a better one would be Nova and Kerrigan taking shots of who knows what... or Raynor and Tosh... that guy looks like a tank... but I think the protoss can be sexual... who knows what Artanis and Selendis do in his mothership... there's bound to be tons of space right there
@FalenXangel That should be a minigame in the Hyperion cantina, where Raynor and someone else can sit and drink as much as beer as they can. I wanna hear BW fanboys complain about that, since that would be hilarious. Well, Idk, Selendis is Artanis' student, so that would practically make him a pedophile.
@duskcrawler uh... protoss probably have no... "age" discrimination when it comes to these things... they're all... "old" anyways... sides, they all look the same age
@FalenXangel I agree, but I still wonder this: what can't Artanis do? He becomes the Executor, gets promoted to Praetor, becomes Hierarch of the Protoss, hires a hot student, and becomes a playboy all in one year. Damn, I think I want to be in Artanis' position, because that would be...just wow.
@FalenXangel I know the Shield of Aiur is huge, but its not as large as the Purifier, though. Plus, both the Shield of Aiur nor the Purifier can compare to the damage the badass Void Seeker can do which is 200. This is why the Void Seeker is my 2nd starship in SC with the Hyperion coming in first and the Gantrithor in 3rd and the Aleksander in 4th since all of them are awesome and fun to play as.
@FalenXangel For a shuttle that thing can seriously do some damage. I always thought the Gantrithor or the Shield of Aiur were the most powerful, but apparently, the most powerful is the Void Seeker next to the Hyperion. For some reason, I think all the main heroes get upgrades in units. Like Raynor gets the Hyperion, Fenix gets the Dragoon armor, Kerrigan gets super infested, etc.
@FalenXangel Yeah I can agree, but when he got the Void Seeker, his 100 damage went to 200 damage. Thats an insane increase. Not only that but that thing kills both ground and air units. Hell, Zeratul could probably give Artanis a run for his money because he's that badass. Zeratul is badass, Artanis is just good. Only thing that sucks is you can't use it in Campaign, you have to use it in Map Editor, but even then, its still worth it.
@FalenXangel I have to say either Zeratul or Raynor or Fenix are my favorite character. Its hard to pick, but I think all of them are badass in many ways. I just wonder why Fenix hasn't been referenced in SC2, though. Its kinda sad that he's not referenced or flashbacked, since he is an important character in SC. I think Artanis flashbacked about him in a manga issue, but I don't remember but I do know that he flashbacked about Raszagal, though.
@duskcrawler I think... it's cause he's dead... for sure this time... like... I guess unlike Tassadar who left a really huge impact... whereas Fenix was just... there...
@FalenXangel He's dead alright, but still, he helped Tassadar in defeating the Overmind as well as going against Aldaris and discarding his rank, at least temporarily. If Fenix could flex his muscles I bet the whole SC universe would be at his beckoned call.
@MathiasMichell And how is this so? Duran serves a "higher power" as does Maar and Maar refers to the Dark Voice. Unless Maar = Duran, which he isn't, the Dark Voice is the "higher power" that Duran serves. I even looked in the wiki and it says that, which is not surprising.
@duskcrawler many ppl that its been reading the books agree that duran is the dark voice, since he seems to be the last xelnaga alive. i dont know, but i really believe it so, maybe duran refers to the xelnagas in general, and to their will of creating the perfect race.
@duskcrawler There are actually two mysterious entities: Blizzard specifically stated that the 'dark voice' and the 'voice in the darkness' are two different beings.
Duran is a servant to the Dark Voice/Voice in the Darkness/Rogue Xel'Naga. I know it, since his speech hints at that and in VitD said that the Xel'Naga were benevolent, it's obvious that Duran wants the same goal as them, but in more destructive means, thus ending the Xel'Naga cycle. As for Duran's names, some are Emil Narud and Doran Routhe though he probably has more. He's a master of disguise and a backstabbing bastard, I hope Zeratul kills him.
i just played starcraft 2 and they did resolve the storyline... with another secret mission and some other ones that take place in the past and future. Go hybrids!
and they say that Starcraft 2 copied mass effect's story. yet this video is proof that mass effect is the one who copied it from starcraft brood war.
@Radwar99 I guess people see "copying" because both stories have the theme of an inevitable doom that wipes out the entire universe. You're right though, they're pretty different and there's definitely no copying here.
The hybrids are NOT xel´nagas, they were created by the xel´naga. " The dark voice " is most probably a xel´naga - and probably dont look like the hybrids do. Duran is probably not the dark voice since he claims in the scbw bonus mission to be " serving a higher power ", not being a higher power.
There is indeed a hybrid race in SC2, i think they are the "Xel-Naga's" the creator of both protoss and zerg. i just finished the entire terran campaign in sc2 =)
@ayie13 I don't think they are the "Xel-Naga's", becouse the Hybrids were created AFTER the Protoss and the Zerg was born, bye someone, maybe the Dark Voice, from SC2.
@Fredericpub Really? The Dark voice was Duran? I never knew that, I thought he would just be the same guy in sc1, but he is completely different, and I couldn't tell what it was during the campaign.
@8ballasnow There is indeed a hybrid race in SC2, i think they are the "Xel-Naga's" the creator of both protoss and zerg. i just finished the entire terran campaign in sc2 =)
@IcedPhoenix666 Word, F Duran for sure. He does the same damn thing in SC2, same damn secret mission just to find him doing the same damn thing as always and we get just as little info as ever...he pisses me off.

WoL antagonists: Mengsk, Kerrigan

I hope they don't take too too long to finally come out with the Protoss campaign for SC2 (name escapes me), I really want to play that!
FalenXangel 1 year ago
@FalenXangel Don't worry, 18 months away from the Zerg campaign in 2013 will be when Legacy of the Void will be released. But, yeah, SC2 was fun, I'll give Blizzard a thumbs up for that one, though. but it didn't have the same charm SC1 had and some of the characters like Tosh were just....weird. Not only that, but Zeratul and Artanis sound really funny to my ears. I'm always used to listening to Zeratul with a deep voice, grouchy voice.
duskcrawler 1 year ago
@duskcrawler sadly... Zeratul is no longer a grouch... I miss Artanis' voice... he sounded funny =D still, SC2 is good, even if the effect wasn't as powerful as SC1, it is good. Let's just hope Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void deliver a similar or better effect.
FalenXangel 1 year ago
@FalenXangel There was a bit of an impact at the end. It was something we had all been waiting for: the fate of Kerrigan. To be honest, I wasn't disappointed like most were, but, it was still anticlimatic, though. Reason why I wasn't disappointed was because her deinfestation has potential. I've always wanted to see her return as a Ghost and to control the Zerg as well. I've always wondered that. But, I've also wondered who'd win in a drinking fight? Raynor or Stukov?
duskcrawler 1 year ago
@duskcrawler Yeah, I wasn't expecting something like that... I was expecting her to "change" but not like this, not that I dislike the change. I think... she will return as a ghost (probs as part of Raynor's Raiders) and somehow also control the zerg... I think Raynor would win in a drinking fight... he's got the guns for it
FalenXangel 1 year ago
@FalenXangel Its cool besides I'm sure all the Terran fans will want to smack her ass as she's controlling the Zerg assuming Jim doesn't touch it, but even then fans will still want that. Heck, I know some people that are head over heels for Nova. Some even want her to get infested. Now, thats a bit rehashed in my opinion, but it'd still be ironic, but I don't see it happening, at least not yet. I have to agree with you on the drinking game part. Jim would win, he's got a beer belly for that one
duskcrawler 1 year ago
@duskcrawler he's a Marine, Stukov's a Ghost, huge diff there already... But yeah... I think Kerrigan's gonna be Raynor's, they did already have something going, sides... if anyone's gonna tap that ass, it's defs gonna be a protoss, they'll just mind fuck the hell outta her
FalenXangel 1 year ago
@FalenXangel Yeah, Stukov's old, too, compared to Raynor, so I'll give that one to Raynor, though still, I really want to see a cutscene of that. I swear I'd be laughing my ass off if Blizzard decided to do that. I just don't know what drinking game they'd be playing. As for Kerrigan, seeing as how Raynor is a tough guy, I don't think any Protoss would have the gull to mess with her and from what I've seen, the Protoss aren't very sexual or else Zeratul would have been all over Raszagal.
duskcrawler 1 year ago
@duskcrawler lol... I think a better one would be Nova and Kerrigan taking shots of who knows what... or Raynor and Tosh... that guy looks like a tank... but I think the protoss can be sexual... who knows what Artanis and Selendis do in his mothership... there's bound to be tons of space right there
FalenXangel 1 year ago
@FalenXangel That should be a minigame in the Hyperion cantina, where Raynor and someone else can sit and drink as much as beer as they can. I wanna hear BW fanboys complain about that, since that would be hilarious. Well, Idk, Selendis is Artanis' student, so that would practically make him a pedophile.
duskcrawler 1 year ago
@duskcrawler uh... protoss probably have no... "age" discrimination when it comes to these things... they're all... "old" anyways... sides, they all look the same age
FalenXangel 1 year ago
@FalenXangel Yeah good point, but its still kinda like hitting on your teacher or in Zeratul's case, hitting on your mom. Ew...Thats nasty.
duskcrawler 1 year ago
@duskcrawler yeah... who cares though, Selendis is hot
FalenXangel 1 year ago
@FalenXangel I agree, but I still wonder this: what can't Artanis do? He becomes the Executor, gets promoted to Praetor, becomes Hierarch of the Protoss, hires a hot student, and becomes a playboy all in one year. Damn, I think I want to be in Artanis' position, because that would be...just wow.
duskcrawler 1 year ago
@duskcrawler yeah... he's got the ship to prove it...
FalenXangel 1 year ago
@FalenXangel All I got to say is...damn Artanis he is too damn good at that.
duskcrawler 1 year ago
@duskcrawler if ship size is any measure... he's got it big...
FalenXangel 1 year ago
@FalenXangel I know the Shield of Aiur is huge, but its not as large as the Purifier, though. Plus, both the Shield of Aiur nor the Purifier can compare to the damage the badass Void Seeker can do which is 200. This is why the Void Seeker is my 2nd starship in SC with the Hyperion coming in first and the Gantrithor in 3rd and the Aleksander in 4th since all of them are awesome and fun to play as.
duskcrawler 1 year ago
@duskcrawler the void seeker is just destructive... and yeah, I love the Hyperion and the Gantrithor
FalenXangel 1 year ago
@FalenXangel For a shuttle that thing can seriously do some damage. I always thought the Gantrithor or the Shield of Aiur were the most powerful, but apparently, the most powerful is the Void Seeker next to the Hyperion. For some reason, I think all the main heroes get upgrades in units. Like Raynor gets the Hyperion, Fenix gets the Dragoon armor, Kerrigan gets super infested, etc.
duskcrawler 1 year ago
@duskcrawler Zeratul doesn't need an upgrade... he basically kills every ground unit in a hit...
FalenXangel 1 year ago
@FalenXangel Yeah I can agree, but when he got the Void Seeker, his 100 damage went to 200 damage. Thats an insane increase. Not only that but that thing kills both ground and air units. Hell, Zeratul could probably give Artanis a run for his money because he's that badass. Zeratul is badass, Artanis is just good. Only thing that sucks is you can't use it in Campaign, you have to use it in Map Editor, but even then, its still worth it.
duskcrawler 1 year ago
@duskcrawler yeah... Zeratul is my favorite character hands down... he's just too badass for words
FalenXangel 1 year ago
@FalenXangel I have to say either Zeratul or Raynor or Fenix are my favorite character. Its hard to pick, but I think all of them are badass in many ways. I just wonder why Fenix hasn't been referenced in SC2, though. Its kinda sad that he's not referenced or flashbacked, since he is an important character in SC. I think Artanis flashbacked about him in a manga issue, but I don't remember but I do know that he flashbacked about Raszagal, though.
duskcrawler 1 year ago
@duskcrawler I think... it's cause he's dead... for sure this time... like... I guess unlike Tassadar who left a really huge impact... whereas Fenix was just... there...
FalenXangel 1 year ago
@FalenXangel He's dead alright, but still, he helped Tassadar in defeating the Overmind as well as going against Aldaris and discarding his rank, at least temporarily. If Fenix could flex his muscles I bet the whole SC universe would be at his beckoned call.

@duskcrawler man...duran is the dark voice -_-
MathiasMichell 10 months ago
@MathiasMichell And how is this so? Duran serves a "higher power" as does Maar and Maar refers to the Dark Voice. Unless Maar = Duran, which he isn't, the Dark Voice is the "higher power" that Duran serves. I even looked in the wiki and it says that, which is not surprising.
duskcrawler 10 months ago
@duskcrawler many ppl that its been reading the books agree that duran is the dark voice, since he seems to be the last xelnaga alive. i dont know, but i really believe it so, maybe duran refers to the xelnagas in general, and to their will of creating the perfect race.
MathiasMichell 10 months ago
@duskcrawler There are actually two mysterious entities: Blizzard specifically stated that the 'dark voice' and the 'voice in the darkness' are two different beings.
Sa000vua 4 months ago
@Sa000vua It was just recent and my post was before Blizzard released that information so I pretty much refute that as I refute lots of things now.

Chancely123456789 1 year ago
Duran is a servant to the Dark Voice/Voice in the Darkness/Rogue Xel'Naga. I know it, since his speech hints at that and in VitD said that the Xel'Naga were benevolent, it's obvious that Duran wants the same goal as them, but in more destructive means, thus ending the Xel'Naga cycle. As for Duran's names, some are Emil Narud and Doran Routhe though he probably has more. He's a master of disguise and a backstabbing bastard, I hope Zeratul kills him.

@stalin666666 Uh, who said that and quite frankly having played both franchises, I don't see any copying, sorry.

@Radwar99 comments from viewers on the review of Xplay on sc2. then thats your opinion. i dont have any say in that.
stalin666666 1 year ago
@Radwar99 I guess people see "copying" because both stories have the theme of an inevitable doom that wipes out the entire universe. You're right though, they're pretty different and there's definitely no copying here.
Chzrm3 1 year ago
@stalin666666 ...In what way did either copy either one?

The hybrids are NOT xel´nagas, they were created by the xel´naga. " The dark voice " is most probably a xel´naga - and probably dont look like the hybrids do. Duran is probably not the dark voice since he claims in the scbw bonus mission to be " serving a higher power ", not being a higher power.

There is indeed a hybrid race in SC2, i think they are the "Xel-Naga's" the creator of both protoss and zerg. i just finished the entire terran campaign in sc2 =)
ayie13 1 year ago
@ayie13 I don't think they are the "Xel-Naga's", becouse the Hybrids were created AFTER the Protoss and the Zerg was born, bye someone, maybe the Dark Voice, from SC2.
geksz23 1 year ago
@ayie13
Close, but wrong. The Xel-Naga are gods, different than the Zerg or Protoss, But their Creators.
TehEndStarcraft 1 year ago
@TehEndStarcraft Xel'Naga are no gods. The are makers but not gods, they are mortal. Prostoss referred to them as gods sometimes that's all.

@1Borys9 So do the Zerg.
marinex1212 1 year ago
Samir Duran seems to be an agent of the the dark voice of the void we see in Zeratul's flashbacks in SC2.
Fredericpub 1 year ago
@Fredericpub Really? The Dark voice was Duran? I never knew that, I thought he would just be the same guy in sc1, but he is completely different, and I couldn't tell what it was during the campaign.
omgitzjun3 1 year ago
@omgitzjun3 I'm only assuming it's Duran's true form.
The Duran we saw in Broodwar is gone, if anything, he is now Emil Narud,
Narud is Duran spelled backward.
Kerrigan claims to have seen behind Narud's pathetic facade.
Narud is also the leader of the Moebius Foundation.
