It seems to me that the two, Teddy KGB and Mike, are 1-1 when playing each other......KGB beat him in the beginning and Mike beats him in the end......They need to play a tie breaker.
@superjeff14 the action is correct. He is first to act and raises from the small blind. Teddy call. Then Damon acts first on the flop. All action is correct
did anyone else notice that in the beginning of the hand he makes the first action (indicating he would be the button) but then for the rest of the betting rounds he acts first?
Let me get this straight... He starts w/ 10k. doubles it=20k. then risks all that and now is @ $40k!? Right?! Now he owes: 10k to the professor=30k. then he owes grammel 25k=15k. Also, he still owes the Chesterfield 2k (but paid 1 off)=14k....
HOW THE #*$K IS HE BACK "EVEN AT 30K!?!?!?" At the end of the film?!?!?
that was a terrible play. if malkovich's character thought he was on a draw, wtf was he going to call him with? there is no way any good player would go allin with that hand. thats why this movie sucks so bad. its so far from real poker
@darklaren hahah ya and no one would ever make the comments matt does when u flop a straight, anyone who makes comments like "i guess ill gamble" or "i wont be able to live with myself if i fold" is trying to hard to act like they are weak, therefore anyone would know he has a strong hand, its deffinatly a stupid final hand.
this scene is fucking stupid. I thought poker players were cool. How did he have a even chip count if that's how he's been playing? Retard... Anyway it should have been pocket aces. Or he could have flopped a triple and thought the ace should trap. But judging from how he plays he def doesn't seem smart enough to do that. Or maybe the film makers couldn't think of a good explanation as well so they just didn't reveal his cards
@cathey127 How he's been playing? We don't know ,we haven't seen the whole game, heads-up with check-raise he might have played all night and broke even...So the chip count could have been equal...It's pocket 10s because malkovich would have been scared of a set if he had aces
@alexjrmarino why should you be scared of a set when the big blind only doubled? how frequent do pocket pairs double? if he had an overpair, the board was pretty good for him. the only possible scare on the board was 89 (which Damon had) and 67, but no reason not to raise with an overpair. the only draws that could have doubled the pot are T9, JT, and 78, and they're all inside draws, not much of a threat. but really, this guy is even a worse sport than phil hellmuth
Nah, Teddy would've called the floor, and they would've issued Mike a 15 minute penalty. Then, there probably would've been an FBI investigation into Mike's table manners.
Set, Over pair, Or Maybe two pair.. kgb>, he asked if mike was on a draw on the fop..think about it.. and then on the river he says that ace couldnt of helped you.. remenber how he played AA in the beginning of the movie... Why does he "KNOW" that Ace didnt help help Mike?....
Borrow 10K from your law professor to pay off debt to mob, gamble with it instead like a sick degenerate, get KK on the first hand and get a 3bet. Flop the rainbow nuts with 98 with the turn and river bringing the ultimate polarized bricks. Sick life. Matt didn't even want to stop there, it's KGB that quit. Matt was whiling to keep on gambling with his tuition money, his borrowed money from his prof AND Grame.
What a degenerate! What message the Poker world sending to kids watching this movie!
Would've been great if, after the movie credits, they cut to the REAL ending: On second thought, Teddy decides to take Mike up on his offer to continue playing that night. Things start out great for Mike, but then things suddenly take a turn for the worse. Mike pushes all of his chips in with a full house, but then Teddy calls and turns over QUADS. Then, the next shot... Teddy's goons walk up to Mike in slow motion and grab him by the arms and lift him up out of his chair.
How did he turn $10,000 into $60,000? They played $10,000 against each other straight up, and he won it, to get to $20,000. Then they decided to play another round. As Mike says in the movie, having a bigger chip size is hugely advantageous when playing heads up, so no way he lets KGB play $40,000 vs. his $20,000. Is this just an inconsistency?
@cantfunkit1 John had pocket 10s... It's the most logical explanation. If he had AA he would be scared of straights and sets on 6-7-10, not the best flop for AA certainly.. so I don't think he would have bet the pot two times before the last Ace comes... and pocket 10s is the 2nd nuts until the Ace comes, which he thinks is a trap, but the trapper gets trapped sometimes :)
@cantfunkit1 When Teddy moves the chips away from the board to see the straight, I think he slides the deck over his cards and slams them all on the table, then if you pause it at 2:43ish, as two cards fly in front of the man's plaid shirt in the background it appears as if you see a red 10 and a black 10. Anyone else catch that?
lol at people saying how bad they played it and giving advice what they would have done different, are you forgetting it was scripted you fucking clowns?
If Damon had bet 3x pre, and Teddy had re-popped him, then Damon had lead out on the flop, and Teddy had smooth called, then Damon had check raised the turn, then Teddy had made a hero fold...then they would have both played the hand well. As it happens, they both played it like chumps.
BB min raised before SB even called. KGB doesn't 3bet his tens and believe a guy thats says ''I'll gamble'' on a draw for his whole fucking bankroll. Did he think he was leveling or something?
@ireallyamjoeking It's fun to speculate the last hand and with being Teddy so confident at the end with the river Ace, he must had top pair crushed or so it would seem. At the very least, KGB had AK and at the most AA. So anything in between is possible like A10, or even a hand Doyle would be proud of, 10 2!
I've always wondered why Grandma got mad, he didn't lose shit, he still gets paid in the end, that was the only reason Matt Damon bought in with his whole bank roll.
i think he had pocket aces and that last ace gave him trips thats my guess since he said it couldnt have helped implying he already had 2 of the aces just my thought
@Kubrick101Fan Aces up..He called the flop with an Ace high, hit pair or bet ace high. He bet b/c of the check and when he didn't take the pot, he figured trap or draw. Turn bet for info And was relieved when he called, convinced that his straight draw read was correct. When the ace comes, there is no way he can say that the ace didn't help. His read says so, but he can't rule out AA/AK completely unless he had AA himself. AT is my read. I think the last bet was for value. It's his style.
@Kubrick101Fan He'd love to have gotten all his shit again with two pair hoping that mike caught an Ace to help out his straight draw. Also a player would raise 2x with a small suited connector in order to build a pot with 450BB behind. So it is likely that he just thought he had a draw and his hand could have been as little as king high....heads up you gotta play like that.
A good skillful poker player can just get angry and cry now becoz donks are every where. They will call your AK with K9, QQ with Q10, AA with J8 and will win some how. Donks are the poker players now, both online and in live games.
Poker is dead now, once it was all about skills and now its all about luck. So whats the point to play poker now ?
@nowyano23 I would have found that to be incredibly unlikely and that if he did, he would have still been kind of an cocky idiot for counting on the river or even the turn.
Pay that may-un heees Mon-knee. Classic! Malkovich is an acting genius, and Damon is swiftly becoming one of my all time favorites. I can watch the Bourne movies any time, always good. And Good Will Hunting, are you kidding me? He kills!
WTF in a hu game the sb has the button. He raised 2 x and kgb calls. How comes suddently kgb is in position? Critical mistake to make in a poker movie.....
I do believe KGB had a set of 10's but for people that cannot figure out why he was betting like he was, the whole point of this was to show that Damon had KGB rattled by figuring out his tells. They were trying to show that Damon was the REAL poker player and could outlast a guy like KGB. KGB was clearly on tilt and it was just a matter of time. He was also not up against it like Damon was. Damon was playing with money he couldn't afford to lose.
Of course he can splash the pot if he wants ! Since he is string betting from the beginning of that game, why not splashing the pot ? I'm always confused when i see such supposed good players as Teddy or Le Chiffre do such mistakes on the river. For instance, i prefer the last hand of a game in the series Supernatural when Sam goes all in on a 44A flop despite his adversary tells him not to. The guy has AA and Sam has 44. That's crazy but, strangely, more credible.
This sun of betch! he *check check check* he trick me! lolol

At least we got to see Malkovich in a great role without having to listen to that gay lisp of his.

@aliabideen as long as there are people like you who think like that, I'll keep making a living playing poker

would have sucked if the board paired n he had 10s

@nowyano23 I would have found that to be incredibly unlikely and that if he did, he would have still been kind of an cocky idiot for counting on the river or even the turn.

@lagundafire Trip 10's imho, the only hand that he could have been betting.. straight was the only hand to beat him on the flop and the turn!

Djbiggie24 9 months ago
@Djbiggie24 hu the dealer is the sb and kgb is the dealer
