  • I hate this song and love it at the same time.

  • Poor Elric, all that hardship just to destroy a corrupted universe...and evil still lived.

  • Saw these guys in concert. ;]

  • 6 people were lost in the land where the winds of limbo roar.

  • Amazing!

  • Ghost!

  • where are the so called rock critics??? they should nominate this song among the best ever writen

  • This song needs more cowbell.

  • @KevServo you should both go to hell this song is to epic for that!

  • I wanna know who the 6 f-tards are that disliked ...

  • Where the tides of madness swell,

    And bend slightly to Hell.

  • @MegaLangosta Nothing can break the spell

    I gotta have more cowbell

  • Friends took me to a concert of theirs in 1982, when they would advertise themselves as "Soft White Underbelly" so as not to get swamped before they had large venues lined up, sort of tuning up the road show. We drove to the Soap Factory in Staten Island (?) and literally leaned on the band's stage speakers at the edge of the stage. I was pissed because they wouldn't play this in concert because they wouldn't tour with the kettle drums.

  • I first heard this song in "Heavy Metal." I always wanted to know what it was and who wrote it, and when I watched it with my brother he pointed it out immediately. I am now a huge Blue Oyster Cult fan and this is easily my favourite song of theirs.

  • It's simple. Get fucked up. Listen to Blue Oyster Cult, and then watch Heavy Metal. Lose your mind.

  • @DropOutDragon

Fucking righteous, man. You know what you're talking about.

  • @DropOutDragon Yeah the original. New one sucks cock.

  • @DropOutDragon every friday night from 8th to 11th grade haha

  • LONG LIVE THE HEAVY METAL MOVIE!

  • @unkwonstudios Death...

DEATH TO ALL WHO OPPOSE US!!!!

  • I love this song and i'm glad to see there are more of my generation who loves BOC too. Long live to BOC from spain!!

  • EPIC!This is truly a epic song.;)

  • @godzilloid

Nothing new there. My father fought at Passchendaele when he was 14 years old. 350,000 dead in that one battle He was a hard person to live with.

  • are there 2 versions of this song i think this has more crisp vocals an a bit more reverb -it sounds way better .....but it could be the bad audio quality musicly they sound the same...

  • @oldschoolrock4evr hey don't get confused..the only original and best version is from the album the fire of unknown origin

  • this song makes u feel strong in ur heart

  • @oldschoolrock4evr,yes,it does. It gives me strength to face my life head-on....

  • Wounds are all I'm made of...

  • i've seen boc about 8 times over a span of

30 years and met buck. i just saw theyre

touring near me soon. i can't wait, and this is definitely one of their best creations

  • Did I hear you say that this is victory?

  • I think this is the best song of the '80's BOC material. It captures so much feelings of weariness that they were all feeling at this point in their career and that of so many people in the world from, bad relationships, drug abuse, wars, and societal discord.

  • i'm a 17 year old girl that is a blue oyster cult freak! and so is my 5 year old sister. went to my first b.o.c. show when i was in the 5th grade and had the chicken pox and though it was posion ivy=]. i've met them 2 times and they are amazing.

  • @jbsaramccartney

wanna get married? i've never never met a chick my age that's into BOC

  • @Guhfugyamum WARNING DUDE ANY GIRL THAT ANNOUNCES SHES A YOUNG GIRL ON THE INTERNET IS A HORNY OLD DUDE WHOLL GO DAHMER ON YOUR ASS

  • @slingblade98 too true :(

  • @Guhfugyamum look on her site, she also has jonas brothers

    i think that cancels it

  • @yangtai1992

    ugh, you're right

and she thinks she is a musician, lol

  • @yangtai1992 lol totally! The only thing more annoying than a modern music fan is someone who claims to like "all music". If you like meaningless, talentless crap, be exclusive with it. How the hell do you even go from BOC to Jonas Brothers?? There must be some side-effect!

  • @Kynatics

some modern music is good, just not anything you would hear on the radio or anything like that

  • @Guhfugyamum Well im another chick who likes BOC and btw hate jonas brothers and Im not a musician...I just love music...and gaming. But sadly for you im taken so no offers of marrage please lol.

  • @LadyAllegra55

    got a sister?

  • @LadyAllegra55 clone yourself

  • @jbsaramccartney :3 BoC Is the shit

  • @jbsaramccartney

no marry me, just stop listning to Jonas Brothers

  • I saw the movie Heavy Metal: The Motion Picture the second night it payed in Bremerton Wash in what... 1981 was it?

When I saw the sound track cassette out I grabbed and oh man I SO got into this song.

It's been my 'anthem' ever since.

  • Same here. Although I didn't particularly care for the movie back in the day, I loved this song the instant I heard it in the theater. It's been nearly 30 years since then, but this song still haunts me and, in some ways, accompanies me.

  • Not a Satanic cross: Artwork produced for BOC by a graphic artist friend. It then became the Icon for the group. lamavet hit is right: Alchemist symbiol for lead and Saturn!

  • It has also been used as a mark on the head of one of the characters in the manga: Battle Angel Alita, more like an Homeage to BOC (Yukito Kishiro is a big fan), the character however is based of a work by H.R.Giger (metal beard) I believe, and he is named after some demon: Zapan. which can lead into thinking the symbol is satanic if you don't read all the info/scratch the surface...?

I dunno, great song, great logo and great band nonetheless^^

  • Coldplay - Lost!

I knew i recognised the drum and intro when i heard coldplays latest rip off!

  • @dazparkin ...ah haha, poor, sad coldplay, no one loves 'em. maybe...there's only one ish...and that's um, kin 'ell! up the irons!

  • @dazparkin

Fuck yeah, another kindred spirit that sees the same thing as me with Coldplay!

  • @dazparkin This song sounds nothing like Coldplay's Lost, let alone being a "rip-off."

  • @HabaneroHeat Coldplay sucks, get over it!

  • @Guhfugyamum I never said Coldplay was good, can't you read? All I said was "it isn't a ripoff."

  • The symbol actually means "QUESTION REALITY"

  • They derived it from a symbol used by alchemists for lead and Saturn.

  • ...don't care who it's about, It's just a great song!!

  • from Blue Oyster Cult man! where else...

  • Where is this symbol from?

  • It represents Kronos, King of the Titans, the god Saturn, and is the alchemical symbol of lead.

  • @megalithii

this man is correct about the symbol, everything else is pretty much fan interpretation, but i think BOC would like people to take it how they want and believe in what it means to them

  • its on like every album cover they have o.O

  • This is my favorite song from Heavy Metal [:

  • Me to thats awesome , everytime i think of heavy metal i think of this song, as a matter of fact i was watching south park episode major boobage, the spin on heavy metal and thats why i looked this song up

    , thanks for the comment

  • As I understand it, all of Michael Moorcock's major characters are reincarnations of one another. They comproise an 'Eternal Champion' cycle, which this song is about. It's not about any specific Moorcock hero, but about ALL of them.

  • Well he has more than one universe but mainly you are right.

  • @ShyDaniel2112 Correct. Their song Black blade deals solely with Elric of Melnibone and his sword Stormbringer. Another fabulous tune.

  • @ShyDaniel2112 Didn't he actually get up on stage and rock out with them at one point while they played this?

If so, that's just fucking awesome.

  • @ShyDaniel2112 such truth can't be spoken twice

  • I can't say if we're ever gonna be free!

  • This was on the Heavy Metal Soundtrack. Which is a great soundtrack to a kick ass film.

  • This song is about Michael Moorcock's Elric character... awesome.

  • I think you're referring to the song "black blade" rather than this one.

  • This song is also about the Elric character. I know my BOC ;)

  • Nah I know michael moorcock helped write this and it was inspired by elric but i didnt actually tihnk it was ABOUT him.

    Meh, maybe I'm wrong.

  • @Cheetahcabra

Are you SURE it's not about Jerry Cornelius?

That's another of Moorcock's characters, and it would fit him better.

  • According to Wikipedia its about Elric. But Wiki isnt that good of a source.

  • Perhaps its simply about the Eternal Champion.

  • I dont think I have said otherwise.

  • Nor did I imply such.

It's just that people seem to be discussing whether or not it's about Elric or another Moorcock creation, so it's logical it could be about the Eternal Champion.

  • I think that was stated officially. I think Black Blade and Shadow Warrior are for other Moorcock universe. Or am I wrong?

  • All of Moorcock's "universes" exist within the same fictional multiverse. the Eternal Champion is a hero who exists in each and every universe, dimension and time. Elric of Melnibone is but one aspect of the Champion, and so are many of Moorcocks other heroes from other universes, such as Corum and Erekose.

Blue Oyster Cult wrote several songs based upon, and Moorcock himself wrote lyrics for some of their songs, this one included.

Sorry if you already knew all this crap, lol.

  • I knew they made other songs but the thing about the multiverse I didnt know. Thanks for the info.

  • CONSOLE WARS.

  • Mettalica's cover is OK,but the orignal is better.

  • masterpiece...

  • WOW. And that is a good wow.

  • ufffffff, my favorite song ever

  • The bang logo/symbol is also representative of the Grim Reaper's scythe.

  • @Drizzlerman Saturn ,Roman god of the harvest represented by an old man with a sikel and a pruning knife(the sikel is the symbol associated with this god)on the same note this mythos was the inspiration for the grim reaper ,untill the end of the 18th century saturn was the known outermost boundry of the solar system,1 orbit 29 yrs,a mans life could be 2 sometimes 3 cycles in the zodiac,it was a measure of long periods of time, partly for this reason it became associated with death and the reaper

  • I love this song sofa king much!

  • Comment removed

  • It is the symbol for Lead, aka a very heavy metal

  • Which was originally before alchemy the symbol for Saturn the planet associated for change, turmoil, and strife. Do some research on 'The return of Saturn'

  • Oh! Why thank you lord internet-smart-ass, we surely apreciate your vast data-resource from google/wikipedia...

... always someone playing dickhead in comments... always...

  • 'Out of chaos comes order' Howard JOhnson 'Balzing Saddles' quoting Neitchze...just before the onslaught of Hedly Lamar's dastardly denzions of chaos....

  • ta me the symbol just looks like 3 exclamation marks and a question mark looks cool but ya

  • the keyboard player made the sign up

  • This needs absolutely no cowbell.

  • the movie Heavy Metal was fantastic. It totally shaped this 44 year old man. I paid to see it like 10 times. Does anyone remember the animated boobs? It was weird to get turned on..... know what I mean?

  • great song!

what means this sign with the cros?

  • it is the logo of Blue Oyster Cult

  • something more for that?

i think this sign have a stron sympolism for something else but i am not sure.

  • yeah, its the symbol of the band

  • yes but ussually this sympols have more sympolism

this sympol is hundret years older than boc.

and have some special sympolism...but i cant remember what..

  • classic song

  • And it's veteraN!

  • It's 'Veterans of the Psychic WarS', dumbass.

  • no you are its Veteran of 1000 psychic wars

  • the name of the song is Veteran of the psychic wars

  • To be honest i have listened to a lot of b.o.c over the years and their live music totally beats anything that was ever produced by them in the studio such as dominence and submission so i have to agree with you aleisterfiend!!

  • The live version is awesome. It's on the double album "Extraterrestrial Live" Everyone should really listen to that album because I think every song on it is better than the studio versions including "Don't Fear the Reaper" and "Burning for You" One of the best live albums ever.

  • I love the live version from 1982's live album....it has a blistering guitar solo that's much longer than this one.

  • I agree - that solo is amazing

  • It's real long but it's real, real good!

  • Ever noticed how whenever anyone says "Not to be offensive" they simply use it to justiy their actions and baseless opinions?

  • Yeah, they`re lame bastards and deserve to die... no offense

  • yeah you're right. we ARE lame and DO deserve to die. just how are you going to go about getting it done?

  • nada, eres tan estúpido que solo tengo que esperar a que te mates solo.

  • Poor fixedgearplanet, poor poor fixedgearplanet.

  • Yeah, fuck those motherfuckers!

But hey, Kill 'em All is a great album

  • I think maybe 100 psychic wars would be a little more believable.

  • The way I interpret it, 'psychic wars' in this song refers to human interaction by exchanging thoughts and opinions with someone. It depicts how a reclusive person views social situations they are not used to as a kind of battle of wills and how it affects them over time. "All the scars are on the inside"

  • OK, my previous comment was intended as a joke. Actually, I interpret the song as being about so called "remote viewers" who expend mental energy trying to see into the enemy. So the wars are being fought "psychically" so to speak. The shakes come as a sort of withdrawl after effect as "it's been going on too long".

  • Or it might just be a commentary on the mind games that characterized the Cold War.

  • Really? I allways thought they were real psychic LOL (not sarcastic)

  • I want to see the movie Heavy Metal, cause the music is soooo good, but that movie is nowhere to be found and that really pisses me off.... Great song, anyway, thanks for uploading!!

  • i know what you mean, i cant find Heavy Metal ANYWHERE!!! it sucks

  • Yeah, totally sucks... Well well, if we really have to see it from the bright side: we can at least listen to the film music, and that's not too bad at all this since the songs from Heavy Metal is FREAKING AWESOME!!! Still really want to see the movie though..... Guess it's not much to do about that.

  • the movie is okay, the music on the other hand

    is awesome :D!!!

  • Hahaha, yeah;)

  • The movie is awsome, but you hace to consider it in its context (1981)

  • Can't find it? It's all over Amazon for 17.99 on DVD with free shipping and eBay for maybe less if you have the patience to wade thru all the listings.

  • It's on youtube.. I think its in a 9 part.

  • Kej;) Haven't been able to find it before, but now I really have to check this out, so thank you!

  • The long version on the 1982 live album is the best version.Stripped down and heavier.

  • Love this song one of my favorites :)

  • This is one of my favourite BOC-songs

  • Great song.

  • I can truly relate to this song, it reflects upon my own inner feelings....

  • This song is just so epic.

  • ive loved this song since puberty...:-)

  • This song is absolutely amazing

  • good song ZAPAN ; )

  • so much for the subtile hints to extraordinary bands in mangas ;)

  • LIVE>>>>>>>>>>THIS VERSION

  • Who is the veteran of the psychic wars? The Eternal Champion, Erekosë (from Michael Moorcock's books). Who is Erekosë? In one of his incarnations, he was a man named John Daker.

Search Youtube for John Daker, if you're not already familiar with the name.

    That man can SING ;P

  • I always default to Elric of Melniboné, he and Stormbringer have been with me in spirit for over 4 decades now, a darker hero is hard to find, even if he isn't an albino.

  • :-)

  • Long live the BOC!!!
