FANTASTIC MACHINE I I HAD A 1967 YAMAHA 250 ELECTRIC IN RED AT THE TIME I THOUGHT IT WAS THE BEST 250 AROUND,FAST AND SMOOTH, ITS BROUGHT THE OLD GREAT TIMES BACK TO ME STILL GOT SOME PICS AND ALWAYS KEPT MINT CHEERS FOR THE NOSTALGIA REGARDS BAZ UK.
WOW ... Awesome bike. Outstanding, you did a fantastic job. She´s beautiful and looks brand new. In 1969 this was the first bike that I rode, get a little ride. I was just a kid. That model was Candy Red or Burgundy. Congratulations. Shes rare and a Beauty!
Absolutely beautiful restoration. I have restored a few bikes and can recognize the level of detail you had to achieve to obtain what is essentially a new motorcycle.
I owned a YDS3 in '78 and always loved that speedo/tach combo.
@billj3cub Thanks. Although it's a lot of work to completely dismantle a bike, renew all the parts and put it back together, this one at least had all renewable parts to begin with. It's still about 95.5% original, just repainted, rechromed, repolished, etc. About the only parts replaced were gaskets, seals, pistons, spokes (SS), tires, sprockets and chain, and decals. Even the original seat was retained.
Nice bike. I'm in the process of cleaning up my grandfather's 67 YDS5E currently and it's the exact same color. In great condition too for being so old. Honestly looks about the same as yours (except more grime around the engine) and all I've done is hose it off haha. Only has 1700 mile on it as well.
Batgirl's motorcycle in the Batman television series was a YDS5E. Yvonne Craig was a long-time motorcycle rider, but still requested a bike with electric start. Also, at 5' 4", she felt the 250 Twin was too big and heavy for her.
Very nice work! My dad and I just picked up this exact bike. Ours only has 4000 miles and is in great shape for its age. I'm having a hard time finding some parts. The toughest by far is the blue left side cover that says 250 and Electric on it. Can you share any helpful resources you used for parts during your restoration?
Ebay is a good place for vintage bike stuff these days. Go there every day and search the auctions for "YDS5" or "YDS5E" and you'll see parts for sale. Specific ebay vendors: "ydsparts"; "speedandsportinc"; and "jgroom888". These guys all deal in old Yamaha parts. Good luck.
great video..owned a '66 250 ...love the sound of those bikes..although I ride Harley these days,I'd still love to get ahold of a YM1 305...again,sharp bike..
@bridgeman11 I ride a Harley these days myself , but the old yamahas will always have a place in my heart and watching these videos really bring back some great childhood memories . Thanks
