  • can you review this 4-3Q2 Walkera Micro Brushless Metal Version w/ 2.4GHz 2402 Transmitter ive been thinking about this heli but i have not heard if its good or bad please respond

  • Hi Dave,

I am an 80 year old "Newbie" just getting into flying RC helicopters and planes, and I have watched several of your videos. You are obviously a very talented and experienced guy. I really appreciate you sharing all that talent and expertise.

I will be subscribing, and hoping to learn and enjoy more of your great video help. Many Thanks.

  • LOL...I love the work space lighting at the end of the video...black light and freaky colors...now thats a work shop. Lemme guess, you sit there have a "CIGARETTE" and listen to Pink Floyd too?

    Very helpful video as well.

  • Dave, you rock bud. Using a servo screw driver to mod a DX6i is just pure class.

  • Why not use a super-bright LED and mount it behind the LCD display? Then it could act as a backlight.

  • I think it would have looked better to put the LED on the dot of the "i" in DX6i, but it still looks great! Outstanding vid!

  • Outstanding. Great Tutorial Sir. I was able to goto a electronics hardware store and

$36 bucks later. 15 leds (5 colors @ 3 of each), 15 clear led caps and a 100 ohm resistor and Boom 1 Blue power Led. I truely thank you.

    Scooter Vauto

  • man, you are using a servo as a screwdriver, that's something you don't see alot

Great work, but have you also done the backlight? that seems better than the LED and gives you more light to look at it.

  • You shouldve put the light on the dot of the i

  • is thear a way to switch from right to left hand throttle on this transmitter because i have been using the standerd controls that cum with the mcx but now that i have a dx6i icant get used to the controls so if u can help me pls respond

  • good place for me to whine about my Dynam transmitter-yes i know Dynams considered junk - its got a 4 led battery strength meter- - it was showing 3 leds and the Rx is currently unresponsive ,so i checked the 8 AAs with my Fluke vom and 2 of the batteries were clinically dead- 1.3+ volts - and it was showing 3 of the 4 leds lit!!!!!! if i run that Tx i wont trust the leds for battery strength- just power on !(cant even trust it for that, with 2 dead batteries hiding in there unreported

  • page 6, appendix A to be exact

  • I really want one of these!!!

  • cool, how do those wire strippers work?

  • make a video on how to make one of those servo srewdeivers

  • already done

  • Another great video. Where do I get a light and lens setup like that for my radio?

  • was watching your video and saw a tool i've not seen in awile and was wondering where you got your safety wire plier's?

  • Haha. My favorite tool. They are USMC Avionics Military Issue.

  • Thanks i wish i was able to get a pair whean i got out of the navy. BTW im an AT myself

  • @jphysco i also have one and cost me 2$or so,

you also have it in hobbyking

  • @jphysco ,

Go to any sportbike motorcycke shop, and they usually carry these pliers. We use them to safety wire our bikes for the race track.

  • nice job!

  • does this effect the warranty?

  • Maybe but after the warranty runs out, you may want to do it, as dead batteries and memory loss is way worse.

  • what is that yellow button on the top left of your transmitter?

  • It is clay weight I use to put on the helis for balance. I just carry it there.

  • Dave I can't seem to find the video were you describe how to make that power screw driver. Anyone??

  • Go to my home page, search down the videos on the right....about 8 months ago, it is called "Old Servos make great electric screwdrivers".

  • @jflessne

even i liked the tool.the name of the video is"Make Electric Screw Drivers from R/C servos"

  • I like to watch your videos Dave. Thank you and Jeff.

Could you please tell me the names of the songs from 6:34 and 7:47 till the end. Thanks.

@lukey546, it's a servo without potantiometer and modified gear so that turns 360 degrees. It already own it's power suplly (cells). It's made by Mr.Dave. He was invented it many years ago while the power screwdrivers were not common.

  • If you're going to the trouble of splicing the coating off a power wire to solder another wire, you might as well just cut it completely. This enables you to slide heat shrink over it to better protect the exposed wire than just ducttape. I understand the whole mantra that cutting it ruins the integrity... but you just soldered it!!! There's no major difference in impedance between cutting and resoldering versus keeping intact and soldering.

  • great job!

  • LOL, how many tool s do you have?

Great work ive never seen one inside reallinteresting!

On sunday im taking my new Segull Arising Star out for its maiden flight I'll be posting a vid on it :)

  • Can anyone tell me what program Dave uses to edit his video's.

  • Posted video response with my DX6i backlight kit for you DAVE. If you have any question feel free to ask, It would be an honor to help you out for a change since you have help me so much.

  • where did you get the LED? Did it come with the resistor already on it? Nice job! I do wish the DX6i had a back lit screen.

  • Genius you are! I've learn a lot looking ur video. I do hope you will give me a chance to fly with you ;) pham from vietnam

  • where did u get that srewdriver thingy from?

  • Their are backlight LCD kits available and you could see the screen when you NIGHT FLY.

  • Hi Dave, great video and i'm liking that mod. I was just wondering if you've got any advice as i have a Futaba T6EX and the ON/OFF slide switch is quite loose, it has come on a couple of times in my bag and has left me with a flat Tx that is very annoying when you get up the slope! Have you got any modification ideas to improve this switch..? thank you!

  • now its a do6i :P

  • Great video Dave! 5 stars. I can not wait to see a vid on your new Blade MSR I see sitting there! I have had mine for a few eeks and I love it. Thanks!

  • Awesome job Dave. But next video I want you to figure out a way to light up the screen for night flying.

  • Excellent vid Dave as always, educational too.

Do you think you could make video on how to make a backlight for the screen onthe DX6i or DX7 please?

  • at 7:58 is that the new MSR?

  • When I get a little older I'll be implementing this technology in to my DX6i :-))) Thanks Dave!!!

  • I absolutely love that remote. I need to get one of those. =)

  • nice vid again dave well done

  • great mod dave,i could never understand why the dx6i has no power on lights, all my car based txs have power on leds etc. ive also left mine on with a brand new set of top brand batterys in it 3 times.

  • nice work with putting some black lights in your garage dave

  • Cant wait to see you take the MSR for a spin!!!Good luck to Jeff this little bugger is going to be a tuff one to film. Its fast!!

  • Are those chargers on your wall? Our cu-koo clocks are almost identical.

    :)

  • what type of switch would i need to replace my trainer switch on my Dx6i is it something i could probably find at my local radio shack? kewl power on light as well.

  • You could maybe find it at radio shack or you could get one at your LHS and that will be an exact match

  • Trainer switches are mini Momentary on (spring loaded handle) Double pole, single throw. Radio Shack has em. Take the old switch to show them, if you like.

  • thanks a bunch daqve my lhs said they couldnt get them andi would have to shio it out 6 weeks and no flying nio way lol !

  • good grief excuse my night typing lol lol

  • way to go dave good one ever figure out how to go half rate on the blue ray 450 tail servo?

  • wooah I could never have the guts to open my beauty! Very nice idea Dave 5*****

  • lol looks like rocket science to me lol great vid man 8-)

  • great video! i will be doing this when i get one:) 5/5

  • great idea!

  • Gotta love the Harbor Freight helping hands! Theyv'e saved my butt several times.

  • Thats Cool!!!

I Noticed you have a Msr in the background, what do you like better, the Mcx or the Msr?

I am going to do this when I get a Dx6i!

  • Great to see you working. I have learned a lot. Thanks! BoB

  • make MSR vid!!!

  • dave you are one of the most ingenious ! all the little tricks that you do and i use makes me look good! lol awesome work keep it up sir. p.s. really hope to meet you some day ! Semper Fi and god bless

  • really nice vid i have left my dx6i on loads of times as well!!! 5 stars*

  • i broke some switches to lol never fixed it tho

  • You never cease to amaze me. Nice repair/modification job on your DX6i. I remember you let me use that TX when I flew your Blade MCX with it. Those were the only times I had ever used one before. I really liked the feel of it. Glad to see that it is still usable. 5 stars.

PS Jeff gives great advice! :-)

  • excellent videos, thanx so much for all the info, it has helped me to be a better heli pilot.

I have a blade 400 that crashed due to a malfunctioning dx6i, which horizon hobby gave me a brand new rtf and repaired my tx. so now i have two blades.

your video on head repair for the 400 was so helpfull.

Have you used the 5 star cnc head for the blade yet ? If so could you do a vid on tightening the slop in feathering shaft, as this head uses rubber bushings.

Thanx again for all your work.

  • Hey Dave im looking for a beginner plain thats fairly cheap got any ideas?

  • You always make such great, and detailed films. Thank-you for the tutorials you post! They have helped me quite a bit.

  • Thanks very kindly. I appreciate that and glad to hear your progressing.

  • hey dave nice vid could you make another vid on the mini screwdriver but with a smaller servo like a

  • Hey if you look trough his videos. He have made a little one, and how to make one of these servo screwdriver. Really creativ work :)

  • Thanks for the kind words.

  • Thanks for the comments. Scroll the vids on my home page and you will see a video on how to make one. I use mine a lot.

  • Done that my self, but I stubbed my toe on the chair it was sitting on. Nothing broke though. I got lucky.

  • put them near / in / around the screen so you can actually read without any other lights :P

  • Yes, LEDs are directional and it would have to be bright and aimed at the screen. There is no room behind the circuit board to safely get in there. Besides, I just needed to see if my transmitter was on from a distance and this simple light works for that. I don't need to read the screen after flying, just needed a reminder to turn of the TX. Thanks for the comments.

  • i love mine too..the only thing i hate is that theres no power light i leave mine too sometimes ill be doing this aswell thanks..

also the trim buttons break easy on this dx6i they have cheap plastic on the trim switches i had to fix one..CA glue wont work you have to use paper clip drill a hole on the center on the trim leg then put paper then bond with CA then wrap a string.

  • There is a video response above that shows how to replace the trim levers with aftermarket aluminum ones. Good tip of yours too. Put the led in at the same time and good luck.

  • you.are.a.genuis

  • Haha. Thanks,,,,,but not. Just more proving, necessity is the mother of invention.

  • Good idea, I dropped my transmiter, and its still working. Great vid, 5/5 =)

  • Thanks very kindly.

  • Nice idea, I leave mine on as well, after watching you do it, maybe I'll try installing one in mine, thanks. 5*****..........Bob

  • Thanks Bob. Go for it. I'm working on the "visit" video. Lots of editing, but fun to watch so far.

  • EY LAST WEEK I BROKED MY ANTENNA YE SIS A DX6I TRANSMITER ANTENNA AND I WISH YOU MAKE A VID ABOUT HOW TO FIX AN ANTENNA!!!

IT IS BROKEN JUST WHERE YOU CAN (BEND IT).

I HOPE YOU CAN DO IT

    THANKS VERY MUCH!!!

    ochoapedro49 to NightFlyyer

  • Sorry. As long as the wire is not broke inside, you can take black tape and tighten it up. It does not have to bend to transmit. Otherwise, best to get a new one. Thanks and good luck.

  • hey Dave great tip I love my DX6i too. Been a subscriber of yours for a long time. Please subscribe to me and check out what were flying over at my field. I upload new videos about every week. 5*

  • Thanks kindly. I appreciate that. I will check out your site soon as I can.

  • Hey Dave, What's the metal loop in the center of the TX for??

    LOL!

    I dropped mine...

    ...once!

  • Yes, it is for a strap. But I knocked my TX off the bench with a wing of a plane. I wasn't even using it.

  • hi, there's a much more expensive solution that you might like, its to lighting up the LCD.

People are selling this for the DX7 and the JR equivalent for $60-$70 on ebay and rcgroups.

I suppose its possible to adapt also on the DX6i (and possibly make ur own kit as its gonna be cheaper then)

Note that the display shouldn't be too bright/draw too much power ;)

  • That would work, but I like simple and cheap. Hence my simple Power on indicator LED.

  • You should get a strap so you dont drop it!

  • Haha. It was on the bench, and fell off. I usually dont wear straps when in the garage, so doubt this would help. Hind sight is always 20/20

  • Dave, any thoughts on doing a vid on how to illuminate the display screen on the Spectrum radios?

  • That would be nice. I think Im done with this one for a while, but will chew on the idea.

  • LOL the ending is so funny nice! Hey Dave I dont think I would be able to do that to one of my most prized possessions but for christmas im saving up for a blade mSR. Would you be able to do a video of all the tricks you can do with it? That would be so awesome! Thanks Dave

  • Stay tuned. Thanks for the kind words.

  • Gotta love LED's . I'm learning about electronics recently and LED's are pretty amazing. Thanks to Oleg Losev for discovering LED's back in the 1920's and thanks to Dave for showing us proper ways to utilize them ! PS blade mcx is the best heli in the world! ... well for its size anyhow :)

  • Congrats on your electronics classes. I appreciate your kind words. I love the MCX too.

  • is the amazing goop anything like shoe goo? I've seen you use it in all of your vodeos. :D I haven't seen amazing goop anywhere here, but I can get shoe goo.

  • Same makers. Most dept stores and hardware stores sell it but Shoo Goo is almost the same stuff.

  • Nice to know. Thank you!

  • i agree Dave MSR review would be great!!! I would get one but I just got a Walkera cb100 and gott save up again, but would love your opinion on it!! ( I really trust your judgement.

    Thanks Eric.

  • Stay tuned. The MSR is the first tiny conventional rotored heli that really flies as advertised. You will love it.

  • MSR review pleeeease?

  • Stay tuned.

  • i made one of those skrewdriver and i have to say it works great. thanks for that video.

  • All right! Thanks kindly.

  • nice video dave, very clever idea, and you're right, i would have ever thought of seeing you drill into you DX6i. anyway nice video (as usual).

  • Thanks very much. I appreciate that.

  • Whats up with the subliminal messages at the end??

  • You mean discussing the video with the crowd? LOL.

  • Yeah, whatever you call it, lol. I noticed that on a few of your later videos. Is it actually helping?

  • It is just for fun. Relax. Most don't watch to the end anyway.

  • No, I'm not upset or anything, honestly. I've been looking up on how including some subliminal messages in a youtube vid can somehow boost it's viewcount, which would be helpful. I wasn't sure if you were doing that, or just including a funny, signature closer type deal.

Let me remind you, I love all your videos, especially the night-flying ones :) I NEED to get back into RC hobbies! I also appreciate all the good deals you post here, and your ads don't piss me off like most peoples do, haha.

  • amazing, I should stop whining here about how the stuff works incorrectly and customize it to myself.

    Awesome work.

  • Necessity is the mother of invention for me. Thanks kindly.

  • great video Dave. Elvira looks real in the dark!(5 stars)

  • Haha. Thanks.

  • Great Idea Dave I definitely think it needs a light. I have left it on twice and had to send it to Horizon to be reset after it entered backup error. I think Horizon would replace the switches free of charge also. but I know how you love tinkering with stuff. Anyway I need a light but don't want to void the warranty. Great work!

  • Truly, I doubt they would mind if you put in just an LED for warranty, as they forgot. LOL. Thanks kindly.

  • did i see a Blade MSR at 7:59, oooh nice little heli!

  • Yes, and it really is a nice heli.

  • sweet screw driver!!!

  • Thanks.

  • Got to get off my lazy ass and do this. I ruined a new lipo battery by leaving my transmitter on over night..

  • oh man that mustve been painful

  • This would be a welcome solution. Bummer about your battery.

  • Yay a good project for a rainy day.

It's supposed to rain all day tomorrow here in Ottawa Ontario Canada so I have something to do beside drive my girls crazy.

Thanks Dave and even though the girls dont know it they thank you too.

  • i know here in ajax it poured bad! :l

  • It is still raining here too. Thanks for the kind words.

  • hehe, nice flying with the MCX! it looks sweet with the glowing parts :)

  • Thanks very much.

  • cool!!!!!!!!! nice

  • Thanks much.

  • Great idea Dave, I love my two DX6i too. I had a problem with the trim tabs breaking, Horizon Hobby were great with sending me some new ones to replace, but I found some machined aluminum ones from East RC. they work great and probably will never need replacing, check out my trim tabs repairs video :-)

  • Thanks. Good tip. I'll take a look.

  • PS I bought the Blade MSR BNFly, I love it, you should check it out, flies quite stable and quick :-)

  • you could see he had one in the background, i have one 2 and they are NOT for begginers cuz the slightest breeze pushes them really far off

  • Nice lesson Dave. We love the Blade mCX too!

  • Thanks. Glad you saw it.

  • i wouldn't do this because you have the lcd if the lcd is on then its on unless the lcd shows when its off

  • The LED turns on and off with the switch, which was the plan. No problem.

  • PS, the LCD cant be seen in the dark, hence the LED.

  • wow very cool, that is really impressive.

  • Thanks kindly.

  • Nice transmitter

  • My flaps switch is broke I think ... Need to fix it

  • Its easy, as you saw. Go for it.
