I love this song and everything Gino did at this time. What the f*** does it have with this video? I can't even watch. Just scroll down while you listen.
The Hollywood standards of beauty at the time were Mike Glaser and David Soul; for the women Farrah Fawcett, Kate Jackson, Cheryl Ladd, and Linda Carter were the goddesses of all things chic and desirable. If you could not be or look like them, these were the people you could at least aspire to belong to.
The world was a different place then. As the above idols lives and careers were coming into full bloom, Gino Vanelli was also peaking. Like Glaser and Soul, his look was in. This look was the look of macho hairiness, zodiac signs, tight clothes, bulging packages Back then, a certain amount of excess was highly fashionable, too.
This song was certainly a reflection of the times. I have it on good authority that this was the sort of music one would listen to on a good stereo system, with indirect lighting, with a stiff drink or light up to, in the company of your favorite whomever(s)
That was then, this is now. Maybe this compilation offers some insight into the 70s, maybe its just too gay and too gunnish in todays context. One thing is for sure, its time has long since come and gone.
This a great song from Gino Vanelli talking about his life and their sacrifces for him. Its a beautiful song. I agree there is no connection to Starsky and Hutch. (Its quite a disconnect and a stretch)

could anyone please tell me what the first part of the song means which is:
Oh my father, he was a brother
He worked his body hard to make ends meet
Oh my mother remained his lover
The things they did, the things they said
Go 'round and 'round inside my head, for good
I really do not understand what the line which says his father was a brother and his mother remained his lover means.
