  • pipes are not expensive at all. Its one of my cheapest hobbies.

  • @mikhailmor60 be glad you dont live in australia. we only have 3 tobaccos available, erinmore, borkum and captain black, and they cost 40usd for a 50g pack..

  • this is on the money, exactly why i smoke pipes. except its really not that expensive

  • nahhh! Pipe smoking is not expensive. I mean once you get some pipes going the smoking of the tobacco itself is not that bad. a pouch can last me almost a month

  • This is wonderful to see, bring back some better simpler times. Nothing like relaxing with a nice pipe. You don't inhale and it's not addictive like cigs.

  • Lol that guys name was mormon

  • You don't inhale pipe smoke avoiding smoking related cardiovascular problems. You have to be concerned with cancer usually mouth throat etc but with regular checkups you can avoid death. This is not risk free 50% of people that get mouth cancer die what number of these are pipe smokers IDK but if you check weekly for abnormalities and tell your Dr and dentist you are a smoker they can give you better checkups. Ask me a pipe with a good strong cup of coffee is a perfect match.

  • Estate Pipes are not an expensive at flea markets yard-sales ebay. Clean them with denatured alcohol and you are good to go. I was at the flea market this weekend and got a great deal on some pipes I paid less than $5 each. Sure I have to clean them up prior to use but I have many pipes to use with just a bit of cleaning. I don't like cleaning these but it's cheaper than buying retail. There are video's that teach you to use everclear I use HEET alcohol made from wood to clean my pipes.

  • Frosty the Snowman had a pipe. Santa had a pipe. What's not to like? I also think it's a big middle finger to political correctness.

  • i smoke 3 bowls a day and i probably spend 15 dollars a month on pipe tobacco. i have lots of pipe bags i turned into pipe bags. want a cheap one go to any store and get one of those black vynil beauty supply cases. big enough to hold 2 pipes a baggie of tobacco and lighter/tool and some cleaners. i need to start making more videos again and show how its done.

  • pipe smoking is not expensive. i have dozens of beautiful estate pipes i refurbished myself i bought at flea markets and didnt pay more than 1-3 dollars for each of them. you can buy a brand new corn cob or cherry wood pipe for about 7 dollars. pipe cleaners are a buck. a pipe tool is 2 bucks or just use an old nail as a tamper and an old butter knife to clean to scrap teh cake. bic lighter 4 for a dollar. a bag of prince albert at walmart is 4 bucks. all cheap stuff.

  • @chukzombi totally agree. Corncobs are cheap, last quite a while and are great smokers.

  • I moved over to pipes because my cigar purchases were getting out of hand. Now my pipe smoking cost is getting out of hand!

  • i started smoking pipes wheni turned 18. 6 months ago

  • good to see now if only more kiwis would take up the hobby

  • @goblynable Kiwis? I would say that I can't imagine a Kiwi bird smoking a tobacco pipe, but I can, and it's hilarious.

  • Good to see positive news clips on pipes. Definately on the rise, especially with the youngins around my age (25). I think it's mostly because vintage is in and that means more guys in their twenties are taking it back to when gentlemen were gentlemenly.

  • actually pipe smoking is super cheap even if you get great tobacco. It all depends on what you want to spend.

  • @TheDavid2222 It's very expensive in Australia. $40-50 for a 50g pouch or tin of pipe tobacco. And that's for the stuff that experienced pipe smokers tend to say is crap.

  • @legendofwayne yes its unbelievable isn't it. I want to get a pipe to take on camping trips and relaxing on the deck, but is an expensive habit here. and not enough decent tobacco shops around anymore :(

  • I used to like pipe smoking......

Till I took an arrow to the knee....

  • once the gov sees this they will start taxing the hell out of it...

  • Yes pipes can be pricey, but bargains can be had anywhere. Tobacco can be expensive, but I don't smoke everyday. A small bag can actually last for several months. Pipe tool, cleaners and a awesome dollar-store disposable torch lighter cost me all of about 5 dollars, and I keep it all in a paper bag. Works great.

  • I bought a Peterson Classic Donegal Rocky 03 pipe and Peterson Luxury Blend Pipe Tobacco Mixture 50g Tin all together cost me about £40 - really good tobacco though. But no cleaning tools.. any good place to pick up some? UK.

  • @mako1ism have you looked on eBay?

  • what?! how is pipe smoking not cheap? Once you have a pipe a bag of tobacco is at most like 10 dollars for a small bag. And that small bag lasts me a good 2 weeks if i smoked every day. A pack of cigs is what 8 dollars and you buy about 2 or 3 packs a week? A lighter is only 20 dollars if you get that lighter matches or a standard lighter are not that much and a tamper is like 2 dollars. You dontn need a little pouch for a pipe either

  • i think more people are smoking weed

  • i made a pipe out of a damn log with two holes drilled. it works just fine.

  • man i love that bar harbor. gotta get me another couple oz's.

  • i use pipe to smoke that bomb cannibis

  • Five months ago I traded the pipe for cigarettes, after many years of smoking the cigs. I haven't the slightest desire to smoke cigs now and I don't inhale the pipe. Lost my morning cough and haven't gained weight.

I smoke corn cob pipes which cost abut ten dollars and last a long time (not the Chinese cobs, they're junk) Missouri Meerschaum makes great cob pipes

I like high end tobacco which at Canadian prices runs me about a hundred dollars a month, about $20 cheaper than my old cig habit

  • also, as for tobacco prices, a pound of lane 1q is like $35, and will last OVER A MONTH for most people, i got a 14 oz tub of prince albert for $20 and it lasted me 2+ months of smoking a bowl a day.

  • out the door first time yes, i bought a $20 pipe my first go, a $5 pipe tool, and a $1 bundle of cleaners, and a $3.50 pouch of prince Albert, or a $5 pouch of captain black, that's $35 total for a first time smoker. i then was savy and upgraded to a Peterson Kildare #69 i got as an estate at a ren fair for only $10 (jealous?). i also got a Rembrandt giant for another $10 and kick myself for not just offering to buy all 6 of the guys pipes. after i got those 2, i gave my starter no name away.

  • Overpriced shop but the coverage and topic mater is on par.

  • What utter bollocks!!! Entry pipe: £15-£20, Lighter/matches: £1, 25g tobacco: £5, pipe tool: £2 = £28-£30 tops...and that's INCLUDING TAX. That's about 4 or 5 packs of smokes. Cheaper alternative....I think so!

  • @Aachats Ya I know once you buy a few pipes its cheaper and you don't need the carrying pouch or fancy lighter cuz u can just use matches

  • My first corncob was a gift on my 18th birthday. 2 months later i buy a small briar wood pipe for $10, and just recently I bought another pipe which i paid $45 for. I buy my tobacco at $4 an ounce and that will last me little less than a month on the rate i smoke. my brother (smokes cigarettes) drops $20 a week on cigarettes...

  • There are just no more pipe shops left in Britain, not that I know of anyway. The only place you can find them here is on line. Enjoyed the video, have subscribed to your site, perhaps you would return the favour?

57 pipes last count, most of them estate pipes bought on ebay.

    Alan.

  • you can get into pipe smoking for 10 dollars if you start with a corncob pipe. That was a joke and I'm surprised the shop owner was stupid enough to discourage people from potentially buying his merchandise.

  • Pipes are more expensive to begin, but cigarettes and cigars are more expensive long term

    Evan/BOTS

  • 16 pipes total, like many users on here, I found antique shops, spent very little. Not to say that there aren't expensive pipes out there but it doesn't have to be an expensive hobby, my friend is the exact opposite, he travels around the world collecting pipes, and has a pipe from like 20 different countries, its his "pipes from around the world" collection. He purchases only high quality pipes, and he of course travels and he doesn't go cheap. yes it can be expensive but it doesn't have to be

  • @puffisnick09 also ebay, everything's cheap there, including some very unusual and decent pipes.

  • you dont need to buy that case I've got 5 pipes and 3 bags of tobacco the size that he showed with about 8lighters various kinds. matches a few pipe tools and some pipecleaners all inside of an axe shampoo bag i got for christmas all of that total w as maybe $50 for me maybe more or less. I bought the pipes estate if you added them all as new about $300. Anywayss.. It's not expensive ive been smoking for 6months and its lasted me this long cigarettes are much more costly

  • "Expensive" -- bullshit.

I picked up my first pipe for Christmas, and have been smoking since. Pipe was $40, cleaners/tools $10. Matches are cheap as hell. And I've spent, in the 6 months since picking it up--are you ready?--a grand total of $20 on tobacco. Bulk tobacco is CHEAP, and lasts quite a while. I did buy a corn cob as a second pipe a few months later, but it was only $5.

Had I smoked a pack a day instead, I'd have bought 3 $30 cartons a month, and spent $500 by now.

  • @joelrubin1810 I agree. I have never spent more than 10 dollars on a pipe because I buy them all from ANTIQUE STORES. Estate Sales are the only way to fly for me. Also, tobacco runs about 4.40/2 oz at the store I go to. It can be cheap, you just have to know how to manipulate your respective system.

  • Ive spent maybe 100 dollars on pipes... and only two of them were worth it. Two bjarne's. Ive got a churchwarden that was 70 and a viking that was 30. all i can say is pipe smoknig is as expensive as you want it to be.

  • awsome marc!!!!!!! nice back round too

  • Great stuff, thanks.

  • Interesting video. Pipe smoking in the UK appears to be on the decline. I find it difficult to buy a decent pipe tobacco except in the few specialist tobacco shops that exist in larger towns / cities. Many local stores nowadays don't stock pipe tobacco at all yet sell cigarettes. Back in the 80's when I started smoking a pipe this was not the case. It's a shame.

  • great video. Thanks for sharing.

  • @papercuts777 Real pipe tobacco isn't treated like cig tobacco. Cig tobacco is often reconstituted with added chemicals to enhance delivery of nicotine. Pipe smoking, however, is a poor way to absorb nicotine, since you don't inhale.

Most pipe tobacco is completely devoid of chemical additives besides flavorings. Just watch out for roll-your-own-cig tobacco that's branded as pipe tobacco. BLAH!

Search for "modern marvels: tobacco" for more info.

  • good video *and from Fox!1!!!!*

and i agree with these other commentors about how pipe smoking can be cheaper then cigarettes and in the long run, most likely will be. *unless you're PipeFriendCHS in which case its more like a fine liquor hobby lol*

even cigar smoking can be cheaper, premium cigars at that!

I mean, i can find handrolled, premium cigars on the web for .85 cents to $5-$7 and if you only smoke one a day as a gift to yourself, then you're good :) small cigars for the chain smoker

  • Great video! But what they don't mention is how pipe smoking actually saves one money in terms of how much a bowl of tobacco costs vs a pack of cigarettes. And, how long a pouch of tobacco can last vs a pack/carton of cigarettes.

But at least it sounded like it was shedding a positive light on pipe smoking.

    Thanks for sharing!

  • Great video, thank you for posting this, I hope this trend contunues. The more of us there are, the better we can protect our hobby.

    Cheers,

    Kel
