I like this version. But for some reason I still think the Dante and the Evergreens version is better. It may be because their vocalist just twists the words around a little more cleverly. But this is still an excellent novelty song by the Hollywood Argyles. Song was a hit for both bands.
Goofy Greats! Yes! First thing I ever ordered from a TV ad, my brother and I split the cost. Can't find a copy of it for love or money, but thank God all the songs are on youtube!
I remember my mom buying me a copy of this song on a pressed 45 for my little record player back in the early 70's I got for Christmas. Me and my siblings loved this song as little kids! Thanks for posting!
doesn't this sound and look like it is a person on dialup?i used to love this song as a kid- i'd read books while the 8 track kept playing goofy greats :)
There were some great songs back in the 50's and 60's. Unlike some of the music now you can acctually understand the words. Great song even for young kids now adays.
who said that a good song have to have cussing and swearing in it. This is one all the family can enjoy, Bring back the good ole dayz, it just once more.

The guy singing the lead is Dallas Frazier. He wrote the song and formed a group known as Hollywoood Argyles. Actually it was just Dallas and a couple of his friends. After the song was so popular they toured for a while. The Argyles didn't record anything else. Dallas was a prolific writer who wrote a number of hits for others. I just looove this song. The singer got a really special voice. Like a bad ass. And the prounouncation "...before you caoount to faaaoove..." Too much!
An old DJ told me that the singer here was Leon Russell.
