I remember this from when I was a kid. These were also shown in the 80s as that's when I saw them with this character. It's a shame that they'd have to vastly change this kind of thing now as cheese would be seen as fattening.

I remember this PSA..I enjoyed making a swiss cheese sandwich on rye bread or on an garlic or onion bagel with some italian garlic salad dressing.Mana from Heaven!
I was a child of the 70s, 80s and pre teen in the early 90s. I crossed over :) I miss the cartoons of all decades. G-Force, Rude Dog & the Dweebs, Gummi Bears, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventures, Star Blazers, 2 Stupid Dogs, Johnny Bravo, Transformers, GUMBY, Danger Mouse, Banana Man, VISIONARIES, Johnny Quest. Blockbuster Online and Netflix R getting more retro toons. I wish people would write both companies and request more. Blockbuster online has an easy customer service contact form.
Man, as a kid in the 1970s (I was born in 1969) I used to watch this, among the other "Timer" PSAs, on Saturday mornings. Brings back fond, nostalgic memories of me sitting in front of the living room 25 inch color tv (the only tv we had in the house. Unlike today where people practically have a tv in each and every room) watching my favorite Saturday morning cartoons while eating bowl after bowl of my favorite breakfast cereals. The 1970s really was the golden age of saturday morning cartoons.
So Timer is the one who got us to switch from eating healthy snacks like fruits and veggies and over to high fat snacks like cheese and crackers. Damn you Timer, damn you to hell!
@poeboy2 Cheese was actually a healthy snack when it was still actually cheese. The garbage they pump out now hasn't been real cheese for about 15 years.
I can actually blame my childhood obesity directly to these commercials...Damn you Timer! Not that that was his plan, sometimes this is just the way these things happen.
@GremlinSpike, I hear you, I look just like Timer now and I'm only 40 years old same spindly legs and round torso. I'm not so sure it wasn't a plan, plus what does he look like now he's probably 6 feet under with a wagon wheel in his coffin beside him!
In retrospect, some of the most enduring, well animated and beloved cartoons of the 70's were government funded public service announcements and educational animation. I'm not sure any other decade can claim that.
Yeah, now we have entire networks dedicated to that kind of programming and in an entire week don't air anything as entertaining as the stuff we took for granted on saturday mornings when we had nothing better to do.
This is awesome! Now I know where my obsession with cheese came from...it has to be from watching this a million times as a kid! I forgot all about this little toon until now, but I remember it so well. Great stuff.
Any other Gen-Xers out there still absolutely confused as to which cartoons were School House Rock, which were Timer, and which were those random PSAs??
@frodovader Seth MacFarlane tried to get Lennie Weinrib to reprise Timer for the episode "Petarded," but Lennie Weinrib couldn't remember voicing him.
@frodovader They certainly toy around with Gen-X sensibilities on that show when it comes to certain things they spoof (like "The Electric Company" or "The Great Space Coaster", and those were shows I had to see when I was 4).
..... I just smoked some crack!!!

I always thought it was a bit disturbing how he is in a shootout at the beginning, then he just starts singing and dancing and talking about snacks.
Also, weird how much his clothes match his skin in color; I guess he was supposed to be a piece of cheese? He wanted to be eaten.
Anyone remember that show "The Littles"? I miss the innocence of that.
JiggleBilly talks similarly to this guy, only a lot stupider. I think both of them were on crack... or meth. or some other horrible thing.

(FAMILY GUY VERSION)
Timer: "Well howdy, Partner"
Peter: "Excuse me, buddy, it is three thirty in the morning, I'm very tired..."
Timer: "Look, a wagon wheel."
Peter: "What the hell is your problem?"
Timer: "I just smoked a whole bunch of crack."
onenonlyprincess2 3 years ago 3
What I think is funny about the whole scence is that Timer leans into Peter as he's telling him about smoking crack!
