  • Further border clashes occurred in August 1969, this time along the western section of the Sino-Soviet border, in Xinjiang. The Chinese suffered more casualties. Heightened tensions raised the prospect of an outright war between China and the Soviet Union, a war in which nuclear weapons could be used. Hints to this effect were dropped by Moscow through various channels, though it has never been proven that the Soviet policy makers seriously contemplated a pre-emptive nuclear strike on China.

  • On March 2, 1969, a group of Chinese troops ambushed Soviet border guards on Zhenbao Island. The Soviets suffered 31 dead and 14 wounded. They retaliated on March 15 by bombarding Chinese troop concentrations on the Chinese bank of the Ussuri and by storming Zhenbao Island. The Soviet forces claimed that the Chinese suffered 800 casualties while the Soviets only had 60 killed or wounded. The Chinese claim to have suffered only a few casualties, far less than Soviet losses.

  • Russia is still a major power along with China...Hmmm..After all China buys and uses and builds under licence Russian weapons & MILITARY AIRCRAFT.

Pakistans arch rival and enemy India is also doing extremely well in terms of economic development and scientific innovation research, i.e Space programme and the nifty little TATA nano car.

    Long live the SCO! China-India-Russia.

Big respect to the Goa's rave techno Gurus!

  • Yes, China and Russia never fought each other in the 20th century. Nope, sure didn't...

  • Actually China & Russia had a brief border war in 1969.The deterioration of Sino-Soviet relations in the late 1950s and early 1960s resulted in tensions along the 4,380 km (2,738 mi) border between China and Russia. A particularly serious incident occurred in May 1962, when 60,000 ethnic Uyghurs in China's Xinjiang Province crossed the frontier into the Soviet Union, fleeing desperate economic conditions. Beijing immediately accused the Soviets of subverting the Uighur population.

  • pqwilrj ..The only reason why Russia has made peace with China is because we face a bigger threat from NATO.

I hope China realizes that by supporting Pakistan it will continue to alienate the Indians.

I know that Russia is actively encouraging Sino-Indian relations.

Can you imagine the might of the SCO with the Indians on board.

It would be the greatest Economic.Military block in the history of Earth!

  • Yes, except their relations are a little cool nowadays commie chinks.

  • shut your filthy hole
