Fantastic application. Ideal for hard of hearing, beneficial for everyone regardless of our level of hearing loss....especially between subjects where one or both don't know sign language. Any technology that we can use to communicate more easily with everyone else will help us in our day to day lives. THANK YOU!
I want setup itune iphone for closed capp. Someone talk me. I dont understand and i dont hear. Someone talk speak my iphone. I read closed app. I like it
The app has been updated to have a keyboard mode now as well. So you can respond to the hearing person by typing manually if you would like. There is an on screen button that easily switches between Voice Recognition mode and Keyboard Entry mode. ClosedCapp(dot)com
First, the hearing person can communicate with the deaf person, but how does the deaf person respond? "Grandma" can probably speak clearly, because she lost her hearing when she was 70, but how does a deaf person ask questions of the hearing person with whom they're trying to communicate? The doctor or the sales clerk is not going to have time to wait while the deaf person types out their statement or question. This also isn't helpful for a deaf person for whom English is their second language.
This would be perfect to use when I give high school ASL students test, quizzes when I sign ASL to them since I am deaf myself. The hearing students would try to cheat on me by voicing out the answers.
Wow, it looks really neat. I don't have any kind of device like this yet, but looks like I need to get a device that is compatible with Android Market apps only.
I have few hearing friends who don't know sign language that much, so it will be helpful, and how long should they need to speak for it to recognize their voice?
As a deaf person, is it also suitable and possible to speak to practice with voice to see if I speak correctly or not while reading the sentence?
This app looks useful, but it's not really "closed" captioning. "Closed" means that you can turn already created captions on or off as needed. This app is designed to provide speech recognition on an ongoing basis for a deaf or hard of hearing person, though it's necessary to stop and wait for the speech recognition to work. It could be particularly useful for a person with very severe hearing loss.
@dmulvany Good point. Will be interesting to see if we can make truly live streaming captioning. That's the goal, this is where we at at presently. Still pretty cool though, no?
The tech's not different, just presented differently. Currently using Google's VR, so if you turn on the device's personalization settings, it gets even better as it learns the user's voice. More detail on the tips page at ClosedCapp(dot)com
how is this different from VR systems now on apple and android and microsoft products such as smartphones? e.g. is it an improved system over dragon dictate? tell us more, thanks - ls/ccac
It is on the Android Market only at the moment. Just search for Closed Caption or Closed Capp on the Android Market. I am using a Galaxy Tab 10.1 in this video.
