People need to STOP giving SOLE CREDIT to SMOKEY for songs that were recorded by THE MIRACLES as a GROUP. Like he was in the studio by himself. This is the SAME KIND of ONE-SIDED THINKING that caused SMOKEY to be inducted into the ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME ALONE..while the other members of THE MIRACLES were left out. Kudos to ALL of The Miracles...BOBBY ROGERS, PETE MOORE, CLAUDETTE ROBINSON , SMOKEY ROBINSON,and R.I.P. to departed Miracles MARV TARPLIN and RONNIE WHITE. Motown's first group.
@williamg2552 I agree with you, I feel the same about Bob Dylan and the Band. Dylan got all of the credit while the band got hung out to dry basically.
@MetamorphDubstep Yes, but the big difference is that at least The Band got inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1994. The Miracles started recording in 1957. They shouldn't have had to wait until 2012 to finally get inducted. Now , out of the original six, Ronnie White and Marv Tarplin are dead, and Bobby Rogers is very sick. That means , barring any more deaths between now and April 14th, only SMOKEY , CLAUDETTE, AND PETE , will be there. THAT'S JUST WRONG .
@crazymayful I saw him in Florida when I was on holiday, yes he is amazing! He was actually in Perth too on morning TV when I was there on holiday! D'you think he's stalking me?! Lol!
This is from The Sound of Motowm RSG special that went a long way to breaking the Motown sound in the UK. Mary Wells, Martha and The Vandellas and The Supremes had broken through in Britain in 64 but this programme was a major break for the likes of Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, The Temptations and Stevie Wonder, Great show and I wish it would come out on DVD because my old VHS tape is well worn!
if i meet someone that look and talk like smokey robinson we getting married he was so fine back then idk what my ma was thinking would have jump all over that
No offense to anyone but after packing a couple of bowls, i always feel like picking up my guitar and singing out loud like if it was just me and my guitar, point is..smokey is one of the many voices i try to match with my mediocre singing which makes me feel ultra good.:)
OH LORD SMOKEY ROBINSON ON LEAD SINGS LIKE AN ANGLE I HAVE BEEN HIS FAN FOR ALMOST 3 YEARS, WHERE DOES HE GET THAT ANGLE LIKE VOICE FROM ? (: I SAW HIM ON MICHAEL,S LIFE AND TIMES OF THE KING OF POP AND I FELL IN LOVE WITH HIM THEN I BOUGHT SOME OF HIS MUSIC AND FELL IN LOVE WITH THEM BUT I,M EMBARRESED THAT I DID NOT LOVE MICHAEL JACKSON TILL HE PASSED AWY BECAUSE I NEVER HEARD OF HIM BEFORE, I DID NOT KNOW WHAT HIS TALENT WAS OR ANYTHING I,M SORRY MICHAEL PLEASE FIND IT IN YOUR HEART
Everybody always gives credit only to Smokey, and NEVER credits the other Miracles ....so I'll do it. Thanks to Bobby Rogers, Pete Moore, Claudette Rogers Robinson, Marv Tarplin , the memory of the late Ronnie White, and Smokey...for 50 years of Motown magic, music, and memories from Motown's first group, THE MIRACLES.
@williamg2552 You are correct. Yes while it is true that Smokey wrote most of their songs, it was still a group effort. But this is all too common. There are DJs, in the San Francisco Bay Area, at least, who, on oldies night, they will credit Diana Ross, solely for a Supremes song; or Mike Jackson, for a J5 song. These songs were not solo efforts, but group efforts. Some may want to turn this into a debate arguing that these leads made the songs, but give credit where due.
@nutothis1 That's right. And also, unlike the other Motown groups, that did not write or produce their own material, Miracles BOBBY ROGERS, PETE MOORE,MARV TARPLIN,and RONNIE WHITE, co-wrote many of The Miracles' hit songs with Smokey. They also wrote hits for THE TEMPTATIONS, MARY WELLS, THE CONTOURS, THE MARVELETTES, and MARVIN GAYE. It was DEFINITELY not "all about Smokey".
@nutothis1 I get really burned when I hear old Miracles songs on the radio, and those lame DJ's say "that was by Smokey Robinson". Like he was in the studio all by himself. THE MIRACLES as a GROUP were FAR BIGGER ,had more million-sellers, and had FAR MORE HITS TOGETHER than Smokey has had as a solo artist. I agree...give THE MIRACLES credit as a GROUP. THEY DESERVE IT.
@9Twilk props for the miricles and you know its always the lead singers that get all the glory(ie:micheal jackson, the temps: david ruffins, diana ross of the supremes, martha and the vendella`s see............ and sadly even if you sing second lead(ie: jermaine jackson) people diss and give no props. so i agree with you. peace am out

It was bigger in UK than in USA.

@chgosatrap Not true. This music chartered much higher on USA charts than UK. The greatest popularity was with UK musicians.
