Saw Ultrasound at Break For The Border last week, played Stay Young right at the end...fucking epic. Crowd went fuckinig batshit when this came on. Tiny was in fine form.
coming soon to a venue near you we hope the north awaits punk floyd .. the loons are now shorts and the shell toes are waiting for the first drum roll ., a big dirty glass of bacardi mixed with a tin of jolt coke a cola preserved in ice .yous guys rock
I was at the legendary Camden Falcon gig in 97 in the back room when there was maybe 50-60 people and many of them A&R men. I have seen many bands in such circumstances in front of less people before they made it big eg Nirvana, Blur, Oasis, Radiohead all in pubs/small venues before debut albums released - but the difference here was that Ultrasound actually were the finished article unlike the others. The room was electric and I shall never forget that night.
This is the best thing to happen to music in years. I last saw Ultrasound on the same set as Billy Childish and Patti Smith in the new bands tent at Glastonbury. see you at the Bull and gate in july. Has anyone got a recording of " Hive" to put up here. I had it but can't see it anywhere anymore
I bought this CD single after listening to Floodlit World, and was blown away by this song. I'm so dead jealous of anyone who has seen them live. This song is definitely one of my favourite songs of all time. It is my childhood.
Top draw!! What memories!! I got shitfaced with Tiny and the gang at Reading Rock back in the 90's. I had seen them play live a few times and thought they were great. Tiny walked past me, I told him how good the band was, and he offered me back stage for a piss up!! Great band and Stay Young is in my top 5 singles of all time. Thanks so much for posting this!! ;)
I remember watching this episode of Later and I was hanging out for Tori Amos. Anyway, saw this for the first time - next thing you know I've got a copy of "Everything Picture" in my hands. Still one of my favourite albums ever. Thanks, Ultrasound.
Iquiverbuzz, met the lady bass player recently. Vanessa. She's a music teacher now and she's fab! great personality and looks identical to ten years ago, in fact better.
That was a really great album. I bought it after seeing them on "Later ..." - IIRC it came out a few weeks later. Within a year, they seemed to disappear. The album was then hard to get. People I played it to liked it, and we had to rip it, so they could get a copy, as it wasn't in shops. I really liked the cover art as well.
seriously, ever since i saw this band on BBC Glasto highlights i have been playing the everything picture album. it has slipped from my playlist obviously over the years, but there is just something about ultrasound that stays with you forever - pure quality, find it & tell everyone you know about this band and celebrate that incredible album.
check out the 'sleepy people' album 'blunt nails in a sharp wall' (recorded 93/94) on org records. it's interesting. some of the members of this band were involved in it..
Magnificent band - saw Tiny when he was fronting "A-pop-a-cat-a-petal" (supported Cardiacs at the Astoria) - he kept blowing fountains of water into the air like a whale- we got drenched!
A wonderful mix of uneasy sinister chords mixed with lightening and stress-relieving harmonies. It's sad when artistic differences occur; Morrissey/Marr, Gilmour/Waters etcetera because I think the communication stalemate deprives us all of some really great potential and important work. Vanessa, have you got Richard and Tiny's phone number, luvly jubbly, you know it makes sense!
Well this is what I call 'Cot Death Syndrome' in musical terms. 'Everything Picture' was one of the most original albums I have ever heard. I really think this band could have been massive, given time. So many brave new concepts and arrangements throughout the album and the final title track is one of the most daring artistic adventures ever.
brillant song 'garry glitters gone to seed' great line...what happened to these lot, thinking of all the shit that was out round this time that had successful if short lived careers (hurricane no.1 anyone?) then these lot should have at least got to make another album
I first heard of that song and the band when they supported either Mansun or Garbage. That song made me cry and it made my heart soar at the same time. Best supporting act ever. Vanessa - you guys should have been megastars. You wuz robbed. I think you know what you have to do - call the guys.
vanessa signed my dirty kecks for me at a ulu gig a few years ago i threw them on stage and they landed on the neck of her bass she kindly returned them after the gig signed, unfortunately my mum washed them!!! ultrasound rock the big one!!!!!!!
Go on.......someone start a campaign for a reunion gig. Either Im having a mid life crisis or the whole break up was a terrible mistake. It would be unbelievable to play those songs with the boys again.
@Vanessabest33 Please, please, please, I was going to say don't leave it to Shed Seven to re-unite and remind us of our age and how bad they were, but I think they've only gone and done it. So as we all might be having a mid life crisis please come and blow away the corporate cobwebs with your brilliance!
:) :) :) never thought I'd get to see you guys live, thanks so much for provin me wrong... whatever you do don't make that terrible mistake again! welcome back & good luck x
@Vanessabest33 We need a reunion now even more than ever!!!!! amazing band saw then in the new bands tent at glastonbury years ago (they weren't even a new band then) and were the best band of the festival!!!!
I saw the 'Sound a few times up here in Scotland and the show at la Belle Angel in Edinburgh was absolutely mobbed with anticipation.
I've got some live recordings off the radio but my favourite stuff is the Nude demos and also the Popacatapetal tracks recorded pre Ultrasound which are like early Pink Floyd/Genesis.
Check ou Tiny's myspace page and the one for "Siren".
Incredible, thanks for that. My friend and I cornered Richard after a gig in Maidstone and offered to have his babies. Being male, that wouldn't have worked but he took it pretty well!
At last - some Ultrasound on YouTube! I'd grown sick of searching and ending up with foetus videos. It's as though the band had been airbrushed out of musical history.
Does anyone know where I could download this song as the track on Everything Picture is scratched? Gary Glitter is no longer going to seed - he just clicks and stops.
Thanks that is so nice to see, we did a fantasic gig at the old Camden Falcon just before we were signed and people were hanging from the rafter, the whole place drippin in sweat. I know a guy who worked for Independiente (previously TOTP producer) Rik Blaxill, filmed it. I would love to see that too. Lets see who reads this.......... Fingers crossed. Oh and of course Live at Reading in the big tent second headline to Spiritualized. Someone somewhere must have filmed it.......... XXXXX
If you are the real Vanessa Best, you've got a bloody great voice. Everything Picture is an epic. REFORM NOW!! The world needs quality original stuff again!!
Thanks, I think the party is over. I am a music teacher now thanklessly dragging teenagers through school. I really miss being creative. It might be time to take control and change a few things.............. Its nice to still be appreciated. x
What a performance! You should be proud. You guys were going to be huge and then boom! I bet you lot together again could work things out. An Ultrasound reunion would be big.

I remember watching them do this (on TV unfortunately!) at Glastonbury 1998. Went out the next day and got this CD single!
A fantastic and all-too-short lived band! Shame they didn't come to Ireland last year on their reunion tour...

Just a shame they fell out (?)
They are still my favorite band. I went to see them @ Cambridge 1998 supporting Placebo.
