Its still very posible for you to get killed by a dead rattlesnake, For example if you were to open the mouth and the fangs were to pierce your skin some venom always has a possibility to be ingected into the bloodstream that way..

In Australia a number of people have seen snakes on the road and thought, "AH snake! I will run it over! do the world a favour"

What they have found out, the hard way I might add, is the snake in a lot of cases ends up wrapped round the suspension under the wheel arch.

The stop the car and wonder if the hissing sound is a tyre going flat and find a surprise waiting for them.

Moral of the story, do not run over snakes on the road.

@feralWX.....The reason the snake survived in the case of your story is plane and simple. The driver of the vehicle didn't hit the brakes just before the front tire(s) got him, thus smashing his a** as the car went forward.  Technique works every time. :-)

I agree completely, it strikes me as mourning an incredibly beautiful creature. Appreciating it for the last time, the facial scales, the incredible colouration and as you say, artistically handled. Quite a sobering piece, great stuff as usual.
