To Osmond haters. I won't try to change your opinion because I don't really care what you think. I am curious, however, as to why you care so much for our opinion that you would spend your time here trying to change our minds instead of watching videos of the Jacksons you claim to love so much. Another point I should make is that Osmond fans don't really care if these are sound a likes. That arguement will not sway anyone. Give it up and go watch your Jacksons.

It's in the first Magic & Madness book. This was a counter to the J5 at the time, Donny Osmond sounds too much like Michael for it to be anything other than a soundalike song. However this song was admitted to Berry Gordy in hopes of having the Jacksons recorded it, Berry rejected it. When The Osmonds signed to MGM AFTER The Jacksons had become the success they did, this song was given to the Osmonds. They did other soundalike songs as a well, such as Double-Lovin' and Yo Yo.
The jackson 5 use to kick there ass every minute .until this day the Osmonds remains jealous of the jacksons..they have never reach the leavel the jackson did.not even touch the surface..dont let me talk about Brother Michael..the osmonds have more the 1 bad apple the had a whole tree of rotten dead talentless Apples
@dimpsey3 - I don't think Donny was jealous of Michael Jackson in any way. Donny and the Osmonds refused to be exploited any more once they realised what was being done to them. The Jacksons appeared to have a far less healthy approach and bought into the fantasy world that calls itself "The American Dream" which usually turns into "The American Nightmare".
The Osmond's didn't want to sound like the Jackson's. By 1973 they were writing their own songs and playing their own instruments. Check out the music recorded after 1971 and you will find that the groups went in completely different directions. In Europe the Osmonds were a rock group while the Jacksons weren't. Check out Crazy Horses written by the Osmonds. This is the style of music the Osmonds wanted to do. Love it or hate it you must admit it is nothing like any Jackson music.

@mzswaggnificent1 The Jackson 5 turned it down and it was given to The Osmond Brothers. Ben was written for Donny Osmond but when he was unavailable it was given to Michael.

fatal i saw an interview with an osmons produce i quote him ( i put donny on the heel of michael jackson ) meaning osmons a copy cat group of the jackson 5
You're right. as a matter of fact The Jacksons & the Osmonds were very friendly towards each other. Donny & Michael were friends once. the Jacksons & the Osmonds wanted to play a game of basketball once but old Joe Jackson told his sons you dont mingle with the competition. Nice goin Joe(NOT)!
all this talk bout who was better look when i was a kid id wake up on saturday mornings and id watch the J5 cartoon and i knew that the OSMONDS cartoon was right behind them next. the J5 didnt mind the competition im sure they had fun in thier day when doing it, and those memorys will last both groups a lifetime. im sure even MICHAEL before his untimely death lookd back on those days as well with a smile
I remember as a kid there was huge competition between the Jackson 5 and the Osmonds. It became so heated from fans of the cartoon shows that they had a J-5 cartoon vs the Osmonds to see who was the better group. The production company of the Osmonds went after Motown and Berry Gordy proclaiming that the Osmonds were a "Better Group" that the Jackson 5 and that their popularity and success was coming to and end.
The fans wanted a "concert" of the two groups to see who was better. Motown wanted it but MGM (Osmonds label) back out, so they settled the the hit cartoon would have the concert instead. It was all in fun and i've would have loved to see this televised as a real concert. Imagine the crowd and ticket sales along with television ratings.
@regvision actually anything that blacks do whites try to imitate and act like they discovered it or at least their fans do they literally go crazy when white person/group can imitate the black singer/group even a little bit ,and is not even near as good , but their fans act like they have discovered it. personally i would not want to take/steal credit for something i did not do first.. check your history going back to elvis ,beatles, rolling stones,
the Osmond idea was to "compete' w J5 and try to "re-capture" (their) youth who were steadily leaning toward MJ even back then-Osmonds really were talented..
they DID steal ALOT of the choreography and vocal style from the J5 (obviously see:"one bad apple") but J5 had one BIG advantage (half of their family would go on to top 10 (solo) hits and grammys and then there was the PRODIGY MJ who is STILL breaking world records.
Also j5 outsold Beatles even in LONDON b4 MJ eventually bought their entire stock..daaaaang!lol But I admire Donnie for his work then and his dancing now.
Industry-wise though Donnie and the Osmonds got left in the dust by J5 and I can't even mention them in comparison with MJ's solo career. If u took the Osmonds ENTIRE career up to 2009 they still wouldnt come close to MJ's accomplishments in just 1974!do the math.the Osmonds would later go on to become fans of the J5 which was cool of them.
Good God what reeks in here! Oh its the Osmonds, and its your spelling that needs checking. Don't get me wrong I like this song, I just don't care for the rest of there music
This song was written for the Jackson 5 and the Osmonds got a hold of it before J5 could record it. Osmonds admitted the story's were in fact true and never try to denied it, something I have to give them credit for doing.
@FatalToxin interesting point but these boys didn't come out with this signature sound until after the Jackson 5. Either way both groups are just fine!
@FatalToxin i think this song was presented to the jackson 5 first, and they passed. Or, it might have been...the osmonds passed on ABC, and then the Jacksons recorded it. Not sure
@FatalToxin Part 1 That may have been true, but their style wasn't the same when they started. History proved the originals. The Police were heavily influenced by Bob Marley and the Wailers and Ska was the new category, The Bee Gees ripped there style from the Neville Brothers. Savage Garden from Smokey, N.K.O.T.B was assumed by many to be New Edition, when their manager later admitted they felt New Kids should go urban because "to many" girls where liking them.
@FatalToxi Part 2 Around late 96'-97, the category "Boy Band" was created to protect them from their influences on the charts and to avoid possible sing-offs with real R&B singers. I remember in the Golden late 80's and early 90s, when house music was incorporated with Hip-Hop and Music factories, Snap, Soul II Soul Loose Ends and true queens of House like CeCe Penniston, Crystal Waters, Black Box amongst many others.
@FatalToxin Part 3 Before the kristinas and all the different Pinks, there was Debbie Gibson and Tiffany... and before that, Olivia Newton-John Pat Benetar and Laura Branagin. By about 83-84 Patti LaBelle, Anita Baker, Chaka Khan and Janet shut all that "Hype" up. The thing is... with them, they can't be duplicated. Prince is the coolest in and arguably the second best guitar player next to Jimi Hendrix. And Prince still looks great!
@FatalToxin Part 4 The Isley Brothers alone were responsible for a lot of the classic rock you hear today. And now all you're left with is Justin B-ber and where do you think he gets his style from. The point is, they did INDEED rip their style from the Jackson 5 that's why they eventually fell off. They couldn't pull off a "Buttercup"-Real Soul. They changed their whole performance style after the success of this song particularly. Before you tell someone to "do the math"....do the research.
@FatalToxin you are so wrong they did copy the style after the Jackson Five hit the scene.. I want you back came out 1969 one bad apple 1972 .give credit where it is due everyone copied from the black groups...its always been like that ....and it continues today..... don't get mad read the history and accept it ...
@1goldbaby True! The Osmonds where known for barbershop style singing. And after the Jackson five hit big the Osmonds came back with a more r&b style.
@1goldbaby True! The Osmonds where known for barbershop style singing. And after the Jackson five hit big the Osmonds came back with a more r&b style. Plus this song was written for the Jackson Five, but they where on tour and couldn't record the song. Ben was wriiten for Donny Osmond and the same thing happen to him. It's in Donny's book.
@ednoroirika you are so right ,I remeber the song actually being written for the j-5 to sing it but they passed on it or something , i remember when we 1st heard the song one bad apple" we went "oh my god there they go again copying off our groups "we can't have anything""
@FatalToxin They did rip off the jacksons five, this song came out in 1971 and abc came out a year earlier 1970. however the osmonds were a goup in 1958 before the jacksons ur right about that. This was their first hit though
Donny Osmond was the brother who was pushed to the front of the group because of his good looks, youth and voice.
At the time the same thing had already happened to Michael Jackson (from the Jackson 5) and the Osmond's record company wanted to cash in by making Donny the white Michael Jackson. Donny's said he was exploited and made to sing to perfection until his throat bled just to get him to sound like Michael.
Listen to Donny singing on this - sounds JUST like Michael intentionally.
@FatalToxin What they mean is that the writer who ote for the Jackson 5 wrote this song. The Osmonds did what they do today....hire the hot writers of the time. It worked.
Before this Osmond song! they were a talented white bread group! they saw how the jackson 5 was blowing up the charts, like Pat boone,Little Richard songs,Elvis and the list goes on! they jumped on that J5 thing and became a pop crossover group! as with the J-5, Michael was always the front man, where with the Osmonds that was not the case with Donnie . And yes! I did own a Osmond Album! I did like this song !
Well good for the Osmonds But they still don't come near to the Jacksons. Spoil pampered white folks they should have nothing, but respect for MICHEAL cause that man gave his whole life to the Music industry and how unselfish of him. It took nothing, but hard work and commitment for him to make the way for the wall of fame and break down the barriers for Black Americans especially, I dare them compare Micheal Jackson to Elvis...
Yes, you're correct Reddguy28, the song was written for the Jackson first and it was turned down. When it first hit many Blacks thought it was the Jackson 5 singing. That was until the saw the Osmonds singing it on tv. Then Blacks acused the Osmonds of trying to steal the Jackson 5 style. Many Blacks didn't know that the Osmonds were first on the seen, they just thought they were copy-cats. By the way, I'm Black and I listen to all good music. I'm not jumping on Blacks, it just the truth.
Oh, not so TOPCOO! The Osmonds were doing NON pop music before the J5 came on the scene. They had never done a pop song like this until after the j5 became big hits. They indeed DID copy their style, that is why many folk (black and white) thought they were the j5 singing, before they were seen on tv.
Later I saw Donny Osmond doing an interview (I believe it was on Larry King) Anyway, he said that at one time he wanted to be as big as Michael Jackson and tried to be. But he is now glad that he wasn't because Michael's live do not belong to him anymore. This interview I saw was about six years ago before Michael's death. How right Donny was. He (Donny) had big respect for MJ!
ikecot3, you talked all this shit and now you've gone back and removed your comments to avoid looking like the fool you are. You're a pussy. Think twice before starting shit in the future punk.
This song was written for the Osmonds in response to the Jackson 5 song "I want you back" Donny Osmond was did a good job coming across like Mike. The Osmonds couldn't keep up with the Jackson 5. Later, there was some talk of Michael Jackson and Donny Osmond doing a song together, but it never happen. In stead, they did make an appearance together at the Grammy's and it was all the talk the following day. The two had big respect for one another!
Actually, this song was written for the Jackson 5 and Berry Gordy rejected it. So the writer sold it to the powers that be that were producing The Osmonds.
I got all this information from the biography of Michael Jackson
This song is better than anything the Jackson Five ever did. Popularity has nothing to do with it. Go back to crying in your pillow thinking of Michael Jackson, Neverland, and unicorns.
Spoken like a true label hack. "The Jackson's sold more records so their music must be better!" Most people are morons when it comes to music. They buy whatever 10 songs their radio rotates for them on a daily basis never going any deeper than that. Neither the Osmonds or the Jacksons are my type of music but between the two I'd much rather hear this than I Want You Back or Blame it on the Boogie. Now get your ass back to the mailroom junior, lunch break is over.
Here's an internet first. You've changed my mind. You're right, the Jackson's are better than the Osmonds because they've sold more records. In contrast, you're a 50 year old, muscle shirt wearing fat man, showing off his guitar mangling abilities to tens of people while also playing tough guy to scores of frightened teenagers across the interwebs. Oh, if only I could achieve those lofty feats by the time I'm old as shit.
You are one angry man. No wonder you beat your guitar like it owes you money. Of course I wouldn't post a video of myself on the internet. Only attention whores do shit like that. Besides, who started with the shit talking in the first place? That would be you, replying to my first post and calling me an asshole. You got the verbal beating you deserved. Also, good luck with the surgery. A few more estrogen treatments and those breasts will be perfect. No one will be able to tell the difference.
You're hysterical, stumbling around with a condom hanging out of your ass saying "I haven't been fucked, I haven't been fucked." You have been sir, and thoroughly at that. Don't believe me? Please show this exchange with your friends and watch them cringe with embarrassment for you. Also, the only use I'd have for your personal info would be forwarding it to the fine folks at Keebler so they could stamp your face in some dough and make gorilla cookies. Not a handsome man.
Glad you enjoyed it. I never would've thought that a simple post saying I preferred the Osmonds to the Jacksons would wind up like this but sometimes bullies get what they deserve.
LOL I have never witnessed such a beatdown of a bully on the internets, as I have of the recent exchange between ikecot3 and yourself, with you of course handing down the verbal punishment! That kind of embarrasing pwnage should be enough for the abused bully to make a complete namechange, but I seriously doubt ikecot3 is smart enough. After reading your comments I did visit his page, and you were spot on with the descrpition of the older overweight guy beating that bass. Saved to favorites!
I really don't think so you are delusional they could never be better than the Jackson even in Micheals grave he will dance all over Donnie and Maria.
To Osmond haters. I won't try to change your opinion because I don't really care what you think. I am curious, however, as to why you care so much for our opinion that you would spend your time here trying to change our minds instead of watching videos of the Jacksons you claim to love so much.

You can't even compare the Osmonds to the Jackson Five. The Jackson's were just far superior in overall talent.
airjor1 2 years ago
Well good for the Osmonds But they still don't come near to the Jacksons. Spoil pampered white folks they should have nothing, but respect for MICHEAL cause that man gave his whole life to the Music industry and how unselfish of him. It took nothing, but hard work and commitment for him to make the way for the wall of fame and break down the barriers for Black Americans especially, I dare them compare Micheal Jackson to Elvis...

This song was originally written for the Jackson 5. The Osmonds got a hold of it and got there biggest hit, something the Osmonds never denied.

The song "One Bad Apple" was
written (by George Jackson)
with 'The Jackson 5' in mind. =D
It has a similar theme and sound as
"I Want You Back" by 'The Jackson 5'.
When 'The Osmonds' signed with MGM,
Records, they were sent to Fame Studios
in order to try to duplicate 'The Jackson 5.'

Both groups had a ton of hits.

TOPCOO 2 years ago

I prefer listening to the Osmonds much more than the Jackson 5.

Everybody got their own preference, I like listening to both.

I just watched your bass slapping video. Sounds like you threw it down some stairs. Learn to actually play it and maybe a label will work for you.

I never would've thought that a simple post saying I preferred the Osmonds to the Jacksons would wind up like this but sometimes bullies get what they deserve.
pbh94515 2 years ago
LOL I have never witnessed such a beatdown of a bully on the internets, as I have of the recent exchange between ikecot3 and yourself, with you of course handing down the verbal punishment! That kind of embarrasing pwnage should be enough for the abused bully to make a complete namechange, but I seriously doubt ikecot3 is smart enough. After reading your comments I did visit his page, and you were spot on with the descrpition of the older overweight guy beating that bass. Saved to favorites!
