Actually it's' corporatists' (people punking for corporations and making money off people by driving down the price of workers) that "see people as assets" and 'human resources'. Many of them call themselves 'libertarians' or 'conservatives' or whatever they think pretty.
But mostly advocates like O'Rourke and those he serves are 'Economic Traitors ' to any nation they infest.
@ProNorden "Driving down the price of workers". That suggests they can be bought and sold. Assuming you mean the wages of workers, I hear you. And you're wrong. (You will never make a King's ransom stacking boxes, no matter the immigration policy). If you live in the U.S.A., YOU are the byproduct of disorganized immigration. There was no legal/illegal immig.3 generations ago... Kill Red Men. Enslave black men. Blame brown men for our failed dreams. Bullshit. Your life is up to you...Harvard?
Apparently Jews can have a country where they are the majority and set the cultural standard. So can Indians, Arabs, Africans, Japanese and Chinese. But Europeans cannot.
There's no good reason to allow non-Australians into the country other than on very temporary student or tourist visas. Australian jobs and public services should be entirely for Australians.
O'Rourke, of Harvard , represents the Disloyalty problem among Corporatists.
@ProNorden O'Rorourke went to a State College in Ohio. And he isn't an officer of a Corporation. He's an independent writer. But forget facts. Go with rage.
No one is flooding Japan with Non-Japanese and encouraging everyone to "mix".
No one is flooding Africa with Non-Africans and encouraging everyone to "mix".
Only citizens of White/European Countries like the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and all the countries in Europe are having uncontrolled immigration forced on them.
This "assimilation" or blending is nothing more than an attempt to wipe out the White race. It's genocide.
Adore PJ O'Rourke, but he lives in New Hampshire. His $ is not being stolen to pay for illegals. In Los Angeles 99% of gardeners, house/hotel maids, janitors, cooks, carwashers, fast food workers are illegals from Central America/Mexico. They are not lazy, BUT teens, seniors, the poorly educated have NO JOBS available because the lower jobs are taken by illegals. THEY do not pay taxes for streets, schools, hospitals, jails which they use. Economy of CA RUINED by political pandering to them.
the idea that the fuss of people smuggling has anything to do with resources is ridiculous - the people who most bemoan the 24,000 boat people who have showed up at our shores over the past 40 years are precisely the people who sneer the loudest at sustainabilty mesures.
@theREALshafan it's interesting that the issue has the most bite among swinging voters in marginal seats that suffer from over crowding. So I've heard. What the infinitesimal trickle of boat faring asylum seekers has to do with that, I don't know, but I don't doubt that it's confused in people's minds.
i've never heard of him but what a dimwit. yeah 'between me and gardencare' what a dickhead, an influx in cheap labour wont lower wages or anything, australia's got unlimited resources and jobs to provide
@DeafFret Well that's a bit sexist !... personally I think she just needs a good meal and two glasses of wine. If she gets a shag out of it later, good for her... :0)
Overpopulation? Come on, just compare the surface level just in the United States and divide it by the number of peple on earth. There is plenty of space there.
FightDPower makes a fair point. The reason there's only about 6 big cities, is because there's only a handful of places where there's large amounts of water. For e.g, Adelaide has the River Murray, Melbourne has the River Yarra, etc. But this ignores the fact that you can build more reservoirs, recycle storm water, build desal plants etc. We're already doing that anyway.
"Oh no, too many people, what are we gonna do??" Sounds like you two are perfectly satisfying PJ's description of the liberal belief that people are nuisances.
Whatcha mean how so? You're calling people problems, saying that more of them will hurt society. Especially FightD, anyway. But no urban centre in Australia has ever run out of water, drought has only hurt rural areas. People are productive, and when more of them come in they can build more resources. There's plenty of water and resources of all kinds all along the coast -- the reason we have only 6 big cities is that we just don't have many people, not that we don't have the resources for more.
No that's your inference that I'm calling people "problems". Do not articulate my opinions for me, thank you very much. And what you say about there being "plenty of water" is very obviously wrong. If it were true, we wouldn't be building a desal plant in Adelaide. Brisbane would not be talking about drinking recycled effluent. Read a newspaper.
Jeez, no kidding its my inference. I said that it "SOUNDS LIKE" you are satisfying PJ's description. See, intelligent folk can assess what people say and infer information beyond face value. Other folk outright object to this.
Now, would you care to explain what the water policies of already-established cities have to do with preventing the establishment of MORE cities? So Bris and Adelaide are low on water -- how does that suggest that 6 major cities is our limit?
No, you misunderstand me, I wasn't saying that Bris and Adelaide are exceptional. Accepting your argument that there are water shortages in most ESTABLISHED cities (there aren't), how does this preclude the establishment of OTHER cities?? In less populated coastal areas there is more water per capita, so they are more than able to increase their populations if necessary. So your reasoning for why there are so few major cities makes no sense.
Well there is a shortage of water in most major cities, as you would know as you'd done any research on the matter. Perth, Adelaide are both building desal plants. Melb's on water restrictions, and Sydney was until recently. With another El Nino coming up, the future's not looking good either.
But as to your idea that we just "establish OTHER" cities, if you think you know a good spot, you're free to try it. You might find that it is not that easy.
I never said that I thought we should establish other cities. I don't think there's a population problem, remember? Plus I'm against central planning. I'm just trying to show you (for the 4th time) why your reasons for there being so few big cities is baseless. You're saying that the cities we already have are the places that are most bereft of resources; and yet that this is why more cities have not been established. That's completely baseless.
Ok I apologise. You're not saying we should establish other cities, you're just asking why we can't establish "OTHER cities". There is a difference, albeit a very subtle one.
I know that both Sydney and Adelaide were established where they were because of easily available fresh water. There may be other places in Australia that are ideal spots for cities, I don't know. But a city needs an economic raison d'etre. You can't just knock one up because you think it would be a nifty thing to do.
Sorry. I appreciate your politeness. Maybe I should go about explaining this a different way.
Maybe I falsely assumed that, since you posted this vid, you're a libertarian. We see things in terms of the rational self-interest of individuals, and so individual motivations are what build cities rather than economic planning. So the reason that Aust. has so few big cities has nothing to do with resource scarcity, since there's more in unpopulated areas.
Actually it's' corporatists' (people punking for corporations and making money off people by driving down the price of workers) that "see people as assets" and 'human resources'. Many of them call themselves 'libertarians' or 'conservatives' or whatever they think pretty.
