  • Ged's voice here is brilliant!

  • The best Band!!! and some peoples don,t like!

  • wow!

  • I hate that bass.

  • this is probably the best version of spirit of the radio

  • omg three stooges!

  • Why did it not say Geddy lee Master, Demigod, Pure awesome?

  • a companion unobtrusive.......best sums up the music of Rush, it just flows at you and overwhelms you with the awesomeness of the sound, hard to believe it's only three guys playing!!!

  • Neil Peart looks exactly like Tom Hanks

  • @XVXXIII Tom Hanks looks like Neil Peart.

  • Thumbs up if you act like you're Neil Peart every time you listen to this song.

  • ..............but glitering prizes and endless compromises shatter the illusion of integrity.................yeah man!!!

  • 5:19 - 5:28 Holy crap, look at all that air-drumming!

  • @LuckilyHeDied thnx for that. I lold... :D

  • Rush has always been amazing live, but my god, they were ON FIRE during this period. Particularly Neil. Wow.

Side note... no matter how many times I hear this song, it is one of the only songs in existence that can instantly bring a smile to my face no matter what.

  • dude... geddys voice was perfect back then... and i never say anything is perfect

  • The best live version by far.

  • This was the first concert I ever went to. It was a Day of Rock and Roll at the Houston Astrodome in early June 1984. Great memories of everything - high school, great friends and great music. Thanks for posting this.

  • The second concert I ever went to--this tour. My first concert, unfortunately was Kiss.

  • @jeffs1000 what do you mean unfortunately??? In grade 5 i wouldve killed for that!

  • Tom Hanks, drums/percussion.

  • Music is art, art is supposed to be shared with everyone for free, I love your videos but I respectively disagree with your remark of "freeloaders".

  • @MNalbs But making music is certainly not for free. It takes a huge amount of time and effort from multiple people to prepare and film a show like this, not to mention the cost of setting up the show and filming it into a DVD.

Performers and their staffs are live human beings that have to feed themselves, find motivation and gain respect from their jobs. I see no better way than going to their shows and buying their CDs to give them what they deserve.

  • @MNalbs Besides, Rush wouldn't have kept performing for 40 consecutive years without three generations of fans buying their CDs, going to their shows and paying them homage. I think of it as a classic example of two-way communication between the listener(reader) and the performer(writer).

  • I love how you always see everyone air drumming for this band.

  • 1:55 :D

  • 2:28 front row , black and white shirt is that a NEIL PEART CLONE ?

  • @RushOnAMission87 indeed :)

  • @RushOnAMission87 No it's Tom Hanks

  • @RushOnAMission87 wow. good call!!!

  • Three Stooges+Rush= Awesome

  • thats awesome they all air drum at 2:24

  • 1:54 for the actual beginning of the song

  • Concert hall! *cheers*

  • that long ass intro to this video is unnecessary

  • @ninfam74 ..If you don't know....might as well not bother...above your head!

  • @hthorke1 shut the fuck up its the band members names in red letters and saying which instrument they played, Im not talking about any of the actual concert footage. whats over my head? That everyone on this video knows the names and instruments of the members of RUSH so a thirty second intro is a waste of time?

  • @ninfam74 Ok, I will "Shut the fuck up"... you are obviously of superior intellect!

  • @hthorke1 you obviously get your ass kicked alot

  • @hthorke1 Harrisburg, PA PUNK

  • @hthorke1 I could care less wear you're from you talk like some pretentious fucking loser who gets his ass kicked often

  • @ninfam74 you're both yo-yos, shutup yah yo-yos.

  • @TheClockworkDevil a yo yo? that has to be the lamest insult in history

  • In my opinion, this is their best performance of this song.

  • And Alex's guitar has a PHASER!!!!!

  • Neil Peart has HAIR!!!!!!!!

  • The video's not even seven minutes long but the credits are over a full minute and Rush didn't start playing until another minute had passed. How about having some concise credits during the last ten seconds of oompah-band music before the guitar kicks in? otherwise I'm having to skip around and figure out where the music starts and it's a pain in the ass.

  • What a fantastic period for RUSH.

  • Cant wait to see Rush tomorrow in Vancouver. Its going to be Fucking awesome.

  • @TheBimmyandJimmy -- I was there too-- omfg WHAT A KILLER FUCKING SHOW! When the intro video was going crazy and Lifeson came out doing the riff on this song, that was just about the coolest stage-entrance I've ever seen. Those guys are just unbelievable, as good as they've ever been if not better... and not just their playing ability but the videos, the light show, the pacing of the show... absolutely perfect if anything in music has ever been perfect.

  • @mythillogic It was an awesome show wasn't it? Wish I was closer (up in the stands of Alex's side) but still a great view. I saw theses guys up in the front in red jumpsuits like the moving pictures cover. 2112 was amazing, everybody was up cheering (especially when the Vancouver bear beat the crap out of the Boston Chicken). God, everything was great. The only problem was that I was really the only one around me rocking out while everyone else just stood or sat down, even during camera eye.

  • Rush is AWESOME

  • Thanks for posting. I think this is the best quality sound on the internet.

  • I CAN NOT BELIEVE THAT 3 PEOPLE DO ALL THAT NOISE!!!!!!!!! RUSH FOREVER !!!

  • @MrRockmex Lots of sampling. They have a guy backstage on a computer who Rush has always referred to as their 4th member. I cant remember his name. Some stuff is also trigger via foot pedals by both Geddy and Alex.

  • Can't be Auto-Tune since this is about 13 years before Auto-Tune existed.

  • This may sound a dumb question, but is that autotune on Geddy's voice?

  • @AlexR4444 No, you fucking dick. Geddy Lee DOES NOT FUCING AUTO TUNE HIS HEAVENLY VOICE. ;3

  • @Esperant3 Uh, just so you know he did use some form of auto-tune on the HYF tour. Listen to a show of hands. He was having a lot of vocal problems at that time, and you can hear he sounds like a robot on that tour. He wasnt using it here though, so you're right, but he did use something later, I cant remember the name of the device, it wasnt called auto-tune at the time. A lot of people used it back then in the studio to smooth their ailing voices out.

  • @trenken at least you know your stuff. x

  • @AlexR4444

No...it's called talent. That was in the way back before times when people had to actually play and sing.

  • Whoa! That windy sound at the outset reminds me of the film Blue Velvet where they ever so slowly focus in on that rotting, hairy, disembodied ear in the grass! "Yep. That's a human ear, alright."

  • The perfect blend of technique, creativity and emotion and they're so goddam humble about it too

  • @ushojedi -you nailed it!

  • Masterpiece......need i say more!!!!!!

  • skip to 1:55 for the song

  • Comment removed

  • I saw them in concert for this tour in May of 1985, Cow Palace, San Francisco. If I recall right, Michael and the Mechanics opened for them. I got tickets late, but I ended up about 8 seats back on stage left, where I could see Geddy and Neil doing their thing. Best concert I have seen to date. Tommy Emmanuel was close, but in a much different way.

  • What better place for Rush to film a concert than in their hometown; Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

  • Awesome... Flawless...

  • Nice kick at 2:12!

  • SLAPPA DA BASSSSSSS

  • These guys r Sick!!! To put out that amazing sound with a three man band is Amazing!!!!!!!!!!! I love them...

  • ahh the familiar stink of 80's fashion. LOVE IT!!

  • @MrGoldengrin

hey at least rush went with the miami vice look instead of the david lee roth spandex look

  • 2 people did not hear the echo of sales men

  • Why in the world, does this video start with the theme music from the 'Three Stooges', before they even start the song for the video? Was that something odd, like having washing machines on the back of the stage?

  • @Chris05161967 Because that's what their intro music was at the time. They're big stooges fans.

  • Why in the world, does this video start with the theme music from the 'Three Stooges', before they even start the song for the video?

  • @Chris05161967 That was/is their unofficial "theme song". They used to do it before every live show and then start the set.

  • Actually, it might have been the Cow Palace in SF. who knows... I have to look at an old tour sheet for that tour

  • 25 years :| damn! anyways this brings back memories. I saw them that year on tour. In Oakland Stadium (Whatever it's called) next to the Coliseum

  • My favorite version of Sprit of Radio! :-)) This one has a certain ZIP to it that I like! Gets me pumped! :-)

  • haha 3 stooges

  • Music is Rush's bitch and music loves it!

  • Where can I buy Alex's pants

  • @2112movingpictures

You can't get them. God himself bestowed them upon his thighs.

  • is it just me or does this get better everytime you hear it? ; ))))))

  • You don't have to be a Rush fan to understand that these three guys are with no doubt some of the most prolific musicians of their time. Every time Stewart Copeland is asked who is the best drummer of all time, he never puts Neil Pert in his choices, when asked about that his answer he states that Neil is not human, Neil Pert cannot be human, he is flawless beyond human comprehension.

  • Me encanta este tema!

  • Anyone who is not a Rush fan has a flawed taste in music.

  • An idiotic thing to say@Jidster01

  • @Jidster01 too kind s of music listeners,rush fans n tasteless ppl:)

  • @Jidster01

honestly, i love you for making that comment. People who like music but dislike rush or dont even give them a chance should vanish off this earth. I was one of those people for a while. Biggest regret now as a rush fan. Im seeing them this sunday at madison square garden im fuckin pumped

  • @Jidster01 They were/are truly amazing musicians, but the lyrics were sometimes truly awful. There was one song which contained the line: "Science, like nature, must also be tamed, with a view to it's preservation" It's supposed to be rock music, but often degenerated into philosophy lectures.

  • ,,ah who cares ?, would you rather listen to Bieber ?,,,lol

  • ,,you don't think Bieber is better and more talented ?

  • @PupuTheClown I'd say it's a tie between Justin Bieber and Ke$ha as far as the WORST "music" I've ever heard!

  • @Jidster01 anyone who doesnt like rush probably doesnt play the bass guitar lol. srrsly tho rush fucking owns

  • @Jidster01 I'm more offended if you insult Rush than if you insulted my religion and spit on me.

  • 2:24 i didn't know air drumming could ever be so powerful.....

  • Rush "AMERICAN IDOL"???

  • I'm not a big Rush fan, but I have to admit, this is a great song :)

P.S. Lee looks like Bon Scott

  • boy he can beat those Drums

  • Ged's Ichabod bass was fierce!!!

  • I love Grace Under Pressure. Geddy's voice is great if you ask me.

  • Everything Rush does is Epic

  • most epic intro i have ever seen for a concert video.

  • alex's pants are epic

  • @darkeagle551 So is Neil's rat tail

  • Geezus....i have this on Vinyl.permanent waves lp.

Mullets, rat tails,Yes people the '80's were this ugly............Duran Duran wardrobe go have a crai....

  • 2:25, dude loves Rush, Jus' like I!!!

  • LOL..no dancing here !! Bleak. austere Canadian outlook. Grab your flannels and some dried beef - we're headed to where only grizzled old prospectors and heart- broken bachelors go - the icy North.

  • i love this version they play the song fast

  • Saw them on this tour (in September 84') at the massive Capital Centre outside D.C.! Incredible! I'll never forget the laser show....it blew me a way. My only complaint was ther opening band: Helix. I mean, I realize they, too, were a Canadian band, but I was hoping for a better opening band than that. The guy I went with and I still crack up about that one. Rush blew us away, though!!

  • @lidoplace Have you seen the Trailer Park Boys episode with Alex Lifeson? Ricky says fuck Rush, Helix is where it's at!

  • except for that little incident Alex had with cops a few years ago they are never in the news for activities unrelated to music and the lineup has not changed is over 30 years, they can go as long as they feel relevant

  • this trio is awesome,in the past and present:soundwall is kickin' people from their feet...just brilliant-thank you for sharing!-love it.

  • I remember this like it was yesterday! I was in 7th grade, and I had heard of Rush, but never seen them before, or really knew any of their songs. I saw this on MTV, back when they use to play concerts on Friday nights. After this, I not only became a life-long fan, but started taking drum lessons a few months later. Ever since Power Windows I haven't missed a tour, and still playing drums 23 years later.

  • @mtalley1 Never knew that MTV played concerts in the 80s. I missed that era by a little bit but was at least around the Beavis and Butthead and (mostly) music video era.

  • I saw Rush a few months back it was awesome but I wish Geddy could see sing like he does in this video: he screams now to hit the notes.

  • @ZakBrownrigg123 He's an old man now. He hasnt been a very good singer in a long time. Every note you can really hear is a real struggle for him. He was only like 31 here, it was a long time ago so you cant expect him to sound like this. This was 25 years ago.

  • @trenken I agree with what you said BUT we are lucky enough to have them still going strong.

  • If there's a better poet/lyricist than Neil out there, I don't know of him.

  • epic opening 2 a concert

  • I love this fucking song.

  • I am in love with Alexs strat.

  • Sit back and be amazed. God gave us Rush. We are not worthy..........but he gave us Rush because God loves Rock!!

  • MARTHA QUINN..MARK GOODMAN..ALAN HUNTER..NINA BLACKWOOD..80son8@siriusxm.com........

  • Holy air drums!!! I have never heard it sound so cool live before! 2:11

  • I LOVE those Candy apple red TAMA'S.

  • here's a band that's been around for more than 30 years. no personel changes, egos, break-ups and getting back together. no cream fucking guns and roses

or van halen bullshit. a true class act!

  • Wait...Rush is getting dissed because of Guitar Hero?

A band that's been playing ~40 years is getting dissed because of a 5 year old video game?

    How ignorant can you be?

  • all hail rush

  • this is the feel good song of my life. The music during the verses makes it impossible to not feel like everything will be just fine! haha

  • @kingv911

Hell yeah....it makes me feel good too...cheers mate!

  • God i hate that bass. Don't get me wrong, big Rush fan since Moving pictures. But ... god.. just hate that bass ...

  • @xBorg6of9x ya its pretty ugly xD

  • What is geddy playing? It's pretty sweet though

  • @PackersBrewersROCK Its a travel bass, they are pretty cool lol

  • @PackersBrewersROCK Stienbergur, I think thats how you spell it

  • headless bass ftw!

  • @jinzodude Steinberger L2 ;p

  • @jinzodude Geddy hated that steinberger bass lol.

  • is it just me or does geddy's voice, sound simply amazing, better than the normal geddy lee amazing voice?

  • Best band ever, short of maple syrup and hockey, the only things that canada ever produced that people like.

  • @gowhitesox12 Bryan Adams buddy

  • It's a Steinberger L2 and it's all graphite composite not aluminum as someone else mentioned. The tuning is direct pull with the tuning heads as part of the bridge. It almost never goes out of tune and because of the graphite composite material it has incredible sustain.

  • Comment removed

  • No low end though, its just not there like his jazz bass.

  • @Annonymus121 I've never actually played one of the originals. I've heard some shows where it sounded pretty good and some where it didn't. My bass is a Spirit by Steinberger which is a wooden copy of the originals. Mine has plenty of bottom end but I can't speak to the old graphite bodies except for they have great sustain. Ged's jazz does sound good but I never felt comfortable with one. I played one for a while but I just didn't like it.

  • I love that bass and I love the DVD it's the first video concert I ever saw. Of course back when I saw it for the first time it was on VHS.

  • my dads favorite band n they pretty awesome

  • love that riff

  • My name is octopussy pain and im so insecure and depressed about my life that the only reason I have not killed myself yet is that I make up an existence I dont have on youtube and hopefully someone else just might hate their life as much as I hate mine. no one will miss you man I promise, even your staff at waffle house, just kill yourself

  • @Masterrese hey man , in these times of reccesion a job at waffle house would be nice LOL

  • @OctopusPain 0/10

  • so great

  • Awesome doesn't do this justice

  • Goin to the Vegas show in August...can't wait

  • i like the intro with the theme from "the three stooges"

    xD

  • Not sure what possessed Geddy to swap his Rickenbacker for a Steinberger haha.

  • loved the 3 stooges intro!

  • Geddy has such an awesome voice... and his dance moves are godly XD

  • this was a excellent concert.

  • oh, i remember! lol, maybe it wasnt all that smart but still; i LOVED all their music but their most recent album has like one good song on it and it wasnt even that good. dont get me wrong, i LOVE this band. SOOO amazing. but the lyrics and everything..to me, it just sounds like they ran out of things to sing about. just didnt really apeal to me as their old stuff. i bet it would have been aweosme to be a teen in the 80's. prolly, the best time.

  • @gabrielle34291 It was and you are 100% right. Rush's best period was 78-89. Nothing can be topped by anyone for what Rush put out and did live during those 11 years. NOBODY WILL EVER COME CLOSE.

  • i♥♥♥rush! my dads fav. band ever. biggest fan. ive had this video under my favs for EVER. it the first vid to play. im not one to brag but i believe i have a very good taste in music. im 15 and listen mainly to classic rock like this. im learning how to play this song and many metallica and journey songs on guitar. ohh, journey. my first love. (: STEVE! whyd you leave the band?! (i know why, rhetorical question, haha) DAMN IT i was gonna say something smartical but now i forgot. :/

  • @tacomadavid68 no ur thinking of rob halford,
