That sucks. I'm sure GM, in it's infinite wisdom, could design a 6 speed that would work. Plus I've also heard the 6 speed couldn't handle the torque, but that can't be right cuz other cars that have torque can be matched with a 6 speed.
This is GM were talking about but then again I have beat on mine like crazy and still good, and for those that want a 6 speed better do more road racing and AutoX than drag. 6 gears will slow you down on the drag strip but 6 gears in a road race you have a better range of high RPM's to choose from with one more gear.
its not that it wont hold the torque it would actually decrease the fuel economy of the car as well as lower the power band of the car which infers more mods and other things gm would have to do to get it back in the nerrow power band on the motor. a 5 speed was the best choice for the motor rather than the 6 speed. that is y gm didnt use a 6 speed
The only thing about the CobaltSS i wish they'd change is give it a 6-speed transmission. Then it'd be like all the other "pocket rockets" in it's category.
not too happy about you damning cops and traffic but i do like the power it gives, do you know the cars maximum speed? like from a tech book or rumors?
It's a 4-banger...and you have to break your engine in....no hard pulls and no red line till your first oil change, so all your seals get properly seated....
thats why i always buy used...i couldn't hold back on what you just said and plus the price is at least 15% cheaper once its off the lot so if you've found a used one with the options u want, then you would have to be crazy to buy from a dealer new
Just wondering. I hear that once you start getting over the 300whp mark, I heard that the transmission or clutch is not able to hold that much power. Other than that how is they reliability? I like the cobalt ss but I want to know if it's actually reliable. The MS3 I know is reliable, it's engine is highly rated as one of the best.
SynapseTurbo has one with a turbo swap and supporting mods running 371whp and 383wtq. Here is a direct quote from them - "We have absolutely beaten this car non stop, I would have no problem at all saying this car was built to take this kind of power. I would put a clutch in the car and go have fun. The rest of the drivetrain has loved the beaten we have given it."
Dude i really dont know where ur getting ur facts from. but i personally know 4 guys who had speed 3's. and all of them blew the motors. look up a guy on here name (laloosh) he had the fastest one for a little while. i met him at cp and hung out with him for a while.
Hey guuy's, I am looking at a 08 ss, I never drove the turbo, i have drove a s.c and it dissapointed me like crazy. So is the 08 A fun car, whats the best 0-60's you guys get in it. I have a 07 3.5 altima now so i wanna make sure i get a car that is faster then what i got now.
Well they say from Car&Driver it's about 5-6secs roughly...but I'm sure with some driver mod it would be a lil better. And as for the car, it's awesome man, pulls good, handles like a dream, can't beat it for the price.
Well for the price stock it's awesome, suspension is the best and compared to the LSJ it will take stage 2 with bolts ons to keep up. Can't beat it for the money. Totally worth it.
I really Like this Car, i work at a dealership that sells them. we have a black one with a wing right now. I was kind of dissapointed in the Beginning of 2nd gear... it falls right on its face for about 1 second. did you feel it ? im not a noob either ive raced tons of cars and bikes. even at a perfect shift it kind of just falls for a second.
thats cuz u dont have it warmed up...it does that cuz the engines not hot enough to burn the fuel mix well and it takes a shit for a second. that happens in my supercharged if i just take someone out right away and show them wut it can do
im interested in a cobalt ss and my buddy who has an 06 gto thats black with red interior says that u cant get a balt that is black with red interior and i was wondering if that is true
It wasn't my car, but last time I talked to Brian he said it's going good, he's looking into getting it tuned soon then intake from AEM, their making one right now.
please when you make more vids keep the window closed that wind noise is annoying

Those LNF's damn sure hold the ground. So road racing is what their made for. IMO
Viper33884 3 years ago
not true. theyre built for turns, man. they handle just as well as those evos and stis, and theyre now faster.

Except a 6 speed would throw the powerband out the window - the 5 speed matches the powerband nicely. GM's 6 speed would not have the right gearing.

I just helped install my friends new GT28 turbo kit on his 06 Cobalt LS and damn that thing is a monster on 12lbs of boost.
supraboost99 3 years ago
I wouldn't push any more than that with intake manifold pressures...but yea I bet it is.
Soon I'm installing the Eaton on my LE5...
Viper33884 3 years ago
so you can install a turbocharge on an LS and LT he ?

top speed is 160, ive already had mine over 150
zacsee2000 3 years ago
Get it tuned and bump the top speed up to 180 with HP Tuners and bump your power up and you should see 160. :D
I think these cars are drag limited anyway.

i bought one yesterday, am 18.

only 150?
break engine properly?

Kinda makes sense to save a few thousand...but you have no idea how the person drove the car before you. The reason I always buy new.
Viper33884 3 years ago
Thanks for the info dude. Clears stuff up. And my sport compact car choice is most definitely going to be the cobalt ss.
marqedwin 3 years ago
Good choice, they are fun cars and everyone knows what's up when they see one...not bad for a lil 4-banger.

You might want to research more on the ms3. Many have had their motors pop.

What's up with you radio it's like blinking is the normal?

Computers do the same thing, the camera can't refresh as quick as the radio can. Nothing wrong with the radio.
