  • Did it really matter if he didn't know or had forgot what the NI rate was? I don't think so (and I don't vote labour).

    The general point was that it was better to raise NI than VAT. That Johnson may not have know the rate of NI is irrelevant. He correctly knew that NI (like Income Tax) is progressive (being based on income) and that Value Added Tax is regressive.

    His point was a general one and irrespective of what the NI rate was or is, he was right.
