  • Thanks for the lesson, may the Schwartz be with you

  • Very nice. I am a beginner and having a little trouble with the transitions, is this song a little tough for someone just starting?

  • Marty! what up.

  • @ theadalfi ~ it 'isn't' the right way they played it? You know this for a fact? Meh, that's the issue that bugs me about my fellow musicians; your comment comes off derogatory and like a back-handed compliment. theadalfi...you modulate it by half-step, throw in a Neapolitan augmented 6th, and take resolve it with a deceptive V7 of V and now it's 'right.'

Bottom line is the dude posted a solid, enjoyable rendition. It sounds very authentic so stop being a musical prude there Captain Crunch.

Much easier to understand in open position, thanks a lot!

  • One other quick thing... he's teaching technique here to beginners. Great job my guitar brother!!! Keep up the great work!!!

  • To people like azzuri229 - Please realize he's teaching a beginner guitar lesson here. He's not trying to replicate Led Zeppelin exactly. The most annoying thing in these comment sections is when people try to correct Marty. Also, just because people don't play something the same as the original artist doesn't mean they're playing it wrong!!! OK... venting time over. Have a great day everybody!!!

  • Marty, you rule. This is my first (and maybe only) youtube comment ever, and I just have to say... you frickin rule.

  • 5 big stars for this one dude. pretty kick ass keepem coming

  • you should teach private guitar lessons, you're a good teacher

  • a capo on the 2nd fret will transpose the song back to it's oringal key of A

  • HI!!

Please I have a question...I'm trying to play Hey Hey What Can I Do, and I have a problem...The Real Tune is A ? Can I tune the guitar in A , without a capo?? I can't find how to tune the guitar in A.

    THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!

  • yea dawg tune your guitar half a step down. so starting from the the low E string it would be Eb Ab Db Gb Bb Eb

  • I swear, that has got to be the clearest explanation of anything I have ever heard in my entire 41 year life. You just took my guitar playing to a whole new level tying riffs to chords. Very nice.

  • 2:53 wtfffffffff

  • hey dude this is wicked good but i think this song is in the key of A. your playing it in G though. like and idon't mean tune the guitar up i mean i think you play it in A.

  • yeah you can play it in the key of A then it's just the three chords A G D but you can play it the way he does.. as well with the GDFC. but basically you can interprit the songs as you will.....just get er as close as possible (plus this guy really knows his shit lol......)

  • jimi page played it:

    The intro:

    A/,A/,A, G, D

    Verse:

    A, E, G, D/,D, D, D, (Licks) A

    Verse resolve:

    A, G#m, F#m, D

    Chorus:

    A, A, G, D /, D, D, D, A

but i always played the same way this dude does until recently i finally looked up the tab lol (always knew it by ear) i like both ways either way

  • or *jimmy* lol

  • Marty, love your stuff. Have picked up a lot of songs from your videos. You scared the sheet out of me with that freak out about 2:50 in. You did that on purpose.

  • you too, I had an acid flashback, wow, I scored at knebworth on the 4th, didn't think it would come back 30 years later

  • Thanks - this a great song. I'll try and follow it, and appreciate your instructions!

    Rich

  • GERREEEN

  • Thanks man.......

  • I think you are very good, because I am 14 and a like learn on guitat with you.

  • 2:52 WTF?

  • i know, i thought i was having an acid flashback from the 60s. lol

  • what tunning is that in?

  • standard

  • Thank you Marty for makin it look easy. Ive learned alot from you. please check out Ronny D & jamie V on this site. We need feedback on what we have posted.

  • thx!

  • haha, marty with those panda eyes, can't miss gim :D good less.

  • hey what the fuck was that green smoking scene starting at 2:52? sounded satanic

  • black crowes with jimmy page do it in A

  • HEY MARTY ROCK ON GOOD PEOPLE

  • wow great job.but what tunning is the studio version in?

  • I believe the studio version is in A (rather than G), but if you think it's hard to sing in G, try singing it in A :-)

  • Have a listen to "James" playing and singing the tune out of A. Simply fantastic. He should be about second way down on your "Related Videos" menu.

  • the end you play is pretty intense...wish i could learn that...got most of the strumming though so im stoked...thanks loads bro! i love zeppelin

  • Thanks a lot, brother, I love your lessons, man. This song fucking rocks! I also dig the psychadelic trip 3 minutes into it. Really fits the tune, man.

  • thanx good help but its played with a capo rite to make it key of D

  • really good and helpful

  • ccmkoho is right, on coda the song's in Ab, hendrix tuning. nice transposition, sounds good in G major too.

  • also lots of bluegrassy open goodies if you just play it in A, standard tuning

  • your missing something in this .. sounds close but still off man. thanks for the effort

  • I want to see your version :)

  • if i knew how to play this song i wouldnt be looking for "Learn to Play Led Zeppelin on guitar Hey Hey What Can I Do" just think about it

  • ok then post your version of it... if it's really good i'd like to see it, that's all

  • nice wan

  • I'm totally Impressed, nice job! I can't wait to learn it, keep teaching!

  • Beautiful! I can't wait to play this for my boyfriend and impress him! :) Thank you so much!

  • thanks so mutch dude

  • I think it's dropped down 1/2 step and in A not G.

  • the most recent version with allison kraus is in G, but I've heard it both ways. In G you can play it this way with all the open goodies!

    peace!

  • yeah, what do I know I'm still relatively a beginner. (2 yrs.)

Thank you so much for ALL your videos including "Next Level". Very helpful for me. You're a great guitar player!

  • @martyfs74 : I agree. It's out of G.

  • @ccmkoho A tuned half step down is? G#, the tone of the music! The thing is, Robert lowered it half step due to ageing, a common practice on most singers. You can tune your guitar half step down and play it in A, or just put a capo on the first fret and play it like Marty is teaching here.

  • Thanks man! Awesome lesson.

    -Julia

  • hey your a good teacher very clear lesson whats the tuning is it a half step down and by the way its nice that you show a couple different chord patterns to choose from, that could be very helpfull to someone who is just learning

  • thanks that was really hepfull and i liked the green insanity too.

  • "Hey, hey, what can i do? i gotta woman and she wont be true!!"

  • You rock!!! Thank you so much. You made that really easy. Thank you for actually explaining all of the details that some teachers skip over.

  • great ;)

  • Great song !!! thanks for posting this.
